The FIM is controlled by regional motorcycling associations, who are controlled by member motorcycling clubs (riders!), the AMA is controlled by its board of directors, who are the manufacturers. Their respective championships reflect this, FIM EMX is focused on rider development, Loretta's AMA Amateur nationals is focused on extracting money from riders.

Ok, I got some time. It was the end of 2000. Like I said, I had lost my KTM ride. I was like any other dumb kid. Worked my ass off to get on a good team (Motoworld of El Cajon 97-99) then had flashes of good speed in ‘99 and got the KTM ride. Then, had a couple crashes testing to get ready for 2000. Had to have two shoulder surgeries and honestly, just didn’t work hard enough training wise. So at the end of 2000 I was a broke kid without a ride and needed some cash, desperately...

All it would take for Peacock to be 'profitable' is to move some numbers around on a spreadsheet. A ton of these large companies, including some of the ones listed in this thread, have always made a practice of making sure their businesses don't appear profitable usually because they're basically overcharging themselves for services. Plus the tax right offs by "claiming" their services at a money loss thus preventing paying taxes.
