So you’re stating that if AC had pulled that exact same move yesterday then he would’ve / could’ve received a harsher penalty and you’d be okay with that? The penalty should be in response to the specific infraction, not dependent on who the rider happened to be.

Yeah, that's not how penalties should work and you're smart enough to know that. He went off the track in the first turn and re-entered 13 seconds (!) later in 3rd or 4th position. If you blow the first turn and go off the track, sorry, you shouldn't get to turn that into a top 5 start. This is way more egregious than what AC did.

I've spent over 40 years in shops. Almost all of them bike shops. Almost every one of them I have been the "helper" mentioned in the original post. 3 friends of mine have had 3rd gear failures on their 18/19 YZF 450. One of them isn't even that fast and his 4th gear failed too only 2 hours after he fixed the 3rd gear issue one week ago. All of them take care of their bikes. This is not down to user error. But i haven't had any issues (knock on wood). 60h on my 2018 and 35 on my 2019 right now.

Yeah. They're great bikes and so predictable, but some guys - including me - have had third gear problems. I don't understand it, as when I find a guy that's had problems with his YZ 250 transmission, it's always third gear. It's never another gear. I also bought a 2015 YZ 125 brand new off the floor. Sigh...another vital pissing contest. Mike didn't manage to live up to the hype but he still managed to make a great living racing dirt bikes.
