Erick Added a reply to Cleaning Your Bike
10/30/2011 7:26am Thank you for this detailed post
How do you guys clean your airbox? Do you do it everytime you wash your bike?
I have problems with it because I usually put too much oil in my air filter so it drips out (I am afraid that I don't put enough oil in). Now my airbox becomes saturated with mud...

10/29/2011 4:04am Have you ever been to Europe?
I am Dutch, and the Netherlands is located in Europe. Just so you know that
And I bet my girlfriend is hotter than yours
You are from the USA so you must be fat. So your girlfriend must be fat too. (the same logic you use)

10/28/2011 8:22am Indeed, it is also part of KTM's new strategy by stepping up their game in the USA.
I really hope it works for both involved and the sport of motocross itself.

10/18/2011 4:27am Your bike is really awesome, I love the attention to detail. I would suggest you put some titanium bolts here and there (engine, triple clams, front axle clamps, rear axle nut). But that would be pretty expensive.

Erick Added a reply to Cleaning/polishing cases?
10/14/2011 3:10pm You can brush the cases with Scotch Brite together with WD40. After you finish with the cases, use a very small wire brush attached to a small drilling machine and do it all over again. This way you will get a very shiny finish. If you want to take it to the next level, use a good aluminium polish and...

Erick Added a reply to Why has USA never produced a vollume selling Motocross Bike?
10/12/2011 12:40pm This is true. A lot of people come from all over the world to work in the USA. I believe the engineering has a very high percentage of foreign engineers. But it is plain dumb to say Americans suck at engineering. Look at all the aircraft companies and the whole military industry. There is a lot of high tech stuff...

10/5/2011 7:41am You could also gusset your existing steel frame and change your suspension. For 2000 maybe you can get an A kit somewhere on eBay. Or some Sölva or Öhlins. If you set it for your weight you have a real weapon of mass destruction. I think you have more value for your money that way.

10/5/2011 3:06am The OEMs do heat treat their frames. Service Honda does too. This is because it is simply required for high strength aluminium. Read any aluminium engineering book and see it for yourself. There are however some aluminium alloys which keep around 90% of their original strength after welding. This material is called 5030 I believe. This material however cannot be...

10/3/2011 10:21am Do you mind sharing the type of aluminium used in the frame? Because I fear 6000 or 7000 series aluminium is used. These metals have to be heat treated or aged after welding. Otherwise cracks can occur and frame failure is imminent. This is what I mean with material degradation. Are you planning to do that?
About the ridgidity, you...

10/3/2011 5:54am Awesome work, do you have any screenshots of the analysis? I am very interested Have you also considered the material degradation of the aluminium itself in the FEM analysis? Did you also consider frame torsional and lateral ridgidity? And what is the type of aluminium used? Did you lab test it?
