I just did this last year and loved the bike. It just snapped a rod and destroyed the motor. I have a set of forks with the triple clamps and front brake caliper I'm thinking of getting rid of if interested.

I had an 06 done by Gorr for mid top. That thing hauled serious ass. I've had yz's and an RM since and neither of those bikes were even close.

I'm laying here with a cracked fibula thanks to aftermarket crank bearings. Not going to name the brand, but stick to oem.

I have an 03 as well with same exhaust set up and I have the same issue. I was contemplating swapping the shorty for a longer silencer to see if that would help.

Lightning, you'll need the triple clamps off a newer bike to fit the sss with the steering stem from old one pressed in (forgot which, but one is longer). You'll also need to get a newer front brake caliper (cheap on eBay). I also bought new wheel spacers and front axle but I don't remember if it ended up being...

I had an 06 and recently picked up an 03 that was in the same condition as the one you posted. I threw on a set of 09 250f forks ($400 on ebay) and the bike is awesome. The aluminum yz's are much more rigid and I could never get the bike to feel plush in the rear.

I've ridden there on a practice day and it was bad enough. Brutal.

I agree with this. If RV from the last few years shows up they're in for a surprise.

I taught various kinds of high school for 8 years and saw a lot of kids on this stuff. While it may work for some people, not in a million years would I give my own kids any of this stuff.

I ride a 450 and 250 2-stroke and have ridden the new yz250f and it rips. It sounds a bit different, more raspy than normal but damn does it haul ass for a 250f. Bike felt light and had a good layout. Maybe not quite as planted in the front as some of the others but not nearly as noticeable...
