12/8/2020 3:27pm Hey, I've lost track of all but a few guys that I've managed to stay in touch with. I haven't really kept up. (Marriage, kids, work, etc) What happened to all of the old ascot motocross racers. Dale Lewis, (Sold me his Maico 450 Magnum - see my profile photo), Todd Petersen, Tim Lunde. And how about my fellow 125...

11/20/2020 8:51am Corona Raceway Friday nights were always way too much fun. Dark, muddy, rubber band starts... But who can remember the Corona GP's? Racing through the hills in Corona was a feeling you had to experience to describe. Standing in front of your bike, with it off, and watching the flag drop.... what a way to start a race. Those were some of the best races. Especially the team race in the afternoon. Every time I drive by Corona Raceway off the 91 Fwy and I see all those houses all across the track, I wonder if the people living there...

11/20/2020 8:51am Corona Raceway! Wow. Brings back a ton of memories. I would race Thurs & Fri nites. Lived in Redlands and raced there from '72 to '76. Raced the High School Series - I think it was the first time they set it up - '74. I had a '71 Husky 250 and raced it in the 250 & Open Nov classes. Moved up to Int and then turned Expert on a 360 CZ. Cool bike. Had a Jim Hoover downpipe, sweet alum alloy peanut tank with Infinity Surfboard & Pink Floyd Darkside of the Moon stickers. Loved that bike! Then...

11/20/2020 8:50am The race to push your bike to the start gate for a good pick, running the track backwards, the GP's, dark hills, coming back into the infield right along the cement barrier. My very first race was Corona, got 1st both motos... I had a friend on a KX80, throttle stuck at the gate, he figured he can race with the clutch and kill switch, came down the middle downhill, never made the turn and flew into the infield... Anyone there when the ambulance crossed the track at the finish line jump in the middle of a race and was...

11/20/2020 8:50am Chris: you read my mind and enjoyed your reccolection. When I think of Corona Raceway, I think of the Harry's Cycle Team and a guy named Radical Rex Staton in the red bassot racing truck. That guy owned the pro class. It also reminds me of those different bikes made by I think Gary Jones? buy can't remember. They were blue and red? We ran the track each friday night as beginners in 1978 and in 79, I ran my first novice class race on the new YZ 80. They retired the runbber starting line on the flat track and...

11/20/2020 8:50am In '77, I packed my Mongoose BMX bike as luggage on a plane and spent a month racing in California. As soon as we landed at LAX,at about 4;00a.m., my relatives were there with the station wagon loaded up. We went straight to Corona and rode the Big Mama BMX race. Wish I could have brought my '76 YZ125 with me. Only time I ever went to Corona. The hills on the back section of the MX track were pretty steep in places, but I do not remember many light poles up there. I just assumed they ran day races...

2/19/2012 12:06pm You are right RaceFace! These guys are punks and thugs with no honor. And THAT is why the sport, (And the country) is going to shit! If I'm wrong why were things so much better 20 years ago than they are now?

2/19/2012 5:18pm YAY, common sense wins the day!!!! Why would anyone knowingly turn in front of someone faster who's going to pass you? Everyone loses.
