I've never raced a hare scramble but have ridden plenty of single track trails, and it would seem to me that motocross etiquette and single track etiquette would be quite different. On a moto track, I'm not holding up a faster guy by simply riding and holding my line, and moving over is often unsafe. That may not be true in a different kind of racing.
