I don't think I'd be so quick to rule out riders that are under 18. Heck, if you're talking about using growth hormone I'd guess a few kids under 14 might be taking some- and not just in motocross. What you're seeing in other sports is the use of Biological Passports. It's interesting. https://www.wada-ama.org/en/athlete-biological-passport
Brian is doing a bit of testosterone "replacement" therapy--Whatever. Doctors will prescribe without much problem. Cooksey is right about PED use in motocross. It's probably pretty rampant. There's no real testing. And even if you are testing there are ways to "mask" the drugs. Although I don't think the level of sophistication is as good at testing clean as is it is in Pro cycling and Olympic sports. You'd probably catch a lot of guys if you tested the top 5 every race and point leaders during the week unannounced.
Cleaned out this thread big time... AGAIN, keep politics out of moto-related section. If you want to debate politics and thee Ukraine crisis, take it to the Non-Moto section...there's a ton of topics there about it already.
Go for it! With some creativity, imagination, and effort you can have a great trail system on 8 acres. I’ve built trails for 30 years and really enjoy it. I often remind myself: less trail work, more riding. A small piece of land challenges you to make better use of space and creativity. Tons of great resources available: -Vital – Several threads about private tracks and some include trail pics also. -IMBA – Moto and pedal trail design basics are much the same. The IMBA site has lots of resources. -Pinkbike – MTB site with tons of videos and pics...
You've got your opinion and I have mine. I'm not a newb. I've been racing nearly 30 years and am a professional technician. I've had literally a hundred or more friends that race or raced KTM's, more than a few of which I have worked on for them. I'm not saying they are junk, but I would never buy one. I've had two bikes blow up in those 30 years and I'm not talking about putting around. Neither of those failures was catastrophic. This is my opinion. You're not going to change it. Only KTM can do that.
Couldn't agree more. I will never ride orange because of the sea of grenaded metal I've encountered with orange fenders attached. The local shop I frequent became a KTM dealer so I've seen and heard plenty. Obviously everyone here is going to give me a thumbs down and get really mad because they have a KTM. This is my view. Others will disagree. The quality is not on par with the Japanese brands. We have all seen the threads. Most people who have had issues won't chime in here because they know they will get flamed or argued with. Just...
This is brutal. It’s also why I never buy all the talk about Florida being the capital of Moto now. There isn’t near the amount of recreational riders there that we have in California. Florida may be great for a handful of pros and other aspirational riders, but the tracks keep closing there and developers keep buying more raw land due to the influx of people going there.
This describes it the best. I have no experience with either bike that the OP is inquiring about, but I went through a similar situation. The past few years, I owned a 15 250sx and 19 kx450. Never been a 2 stroke guy, but figured I would give the 250sx a try. I bought it used from a friend and rode it for a few seasons along side my 19 kx450. It was a struggle riding the 250, but eventually I figured it out. The struggle was getting use to the power delivery/hit, constantly shifting and slipping the clutch. Once...
I had a 2021 KTM 150sx this season, got pretty bored quick of it for the different reasons stated above. Bought a 22 250R and got around 10 hours on it. The 250R is way easier to handle, way less shifting and I can ride it one or two laps more every moto because of how easy it is to drive. I also feel more confident riding the 4 strokes power curve. If I had to do it all over again, I would have got a 250 4 stroke (Honda KTM YAM) in the first place. Also note I am...
Same "dilemma" for me a couple years ago. Went with the 450 XC-F (not the W). Exact same bike as an SX except for: 18" rear: Found that I like the cushy feel of an 18 more on the track than a 19 anyway Slightly softer valving: Works great for me (a C level vet)...better than the SX really in most conditions Kickstand: Never going back to a bike without one Bigger tank: Don't notice the size difference Put it on map 1 with TC on for off road...turn TC off on the track. FWIW, I like the air forks...
In my humble opinion, it comes down to 2 things, noting that you seem to hang onto bikes for a long period of time. 1) In the next 5-10 years, which do you think you will do more of, XC or MX (I know you said 50/50 as of now). 2) How fast are you on MX track, really? And are you really doing big jumps? If you're pretty dang fast on MX track and really like launching jumps, stick with the SX model and then run your clickers soft when going offroad. Otherwise, I find that 'offroad' suspension on...
