I did, but remember, my whole goal was to get money from the CR500AF, not to get more bikes. I ended up getting 2 for one. So now I gotta sell those. I just wanted the money, not the bikes, but figured it is easier to get 2 bikes sold at a lower price than 1 at a higher price. My goal is a new KTM 250SX. I still have other bikes sitting in my garage. CR144, CR85RB, CR250. So I have plenty. I am gonna kinda start over and go KTM for now. But the SX versions, since I mainly ride MX. Oh yeah, and still working on the CR250 mini. So have too many...

I see a lot of topics started about people finding a 125 or 250 cc 2 stroke project bike and that they are quite excited about freshening them up. What I don't see any of however is anyone buying up used 250F's and being all amped up over the idea of rebuilding them.Huh
Very true. I can`t count how many times I`ve seen people crank a 250f (or 450 for that matter) and immediately bounce it off the rev limiter. That and all the grenaded top end pictures along with the price of parts just doesn`t make good sense this day and age. By the time you buy a used "F" and freshen it up it`s possible that you might have been able to buy a couple smokers.

I do have a F bomb I bought new in 06. Yamaha 450 w/ less than 4 hrs. on it. IMO it`s damn sure easier to ride and from what I understand has a strong track record on reliability but I am still addicted to bean oil and enjoy my two strokers as much as when I first started riding in 72`.

Apparently you're not paying close enough attention. The original poster PROVED that two strokes are not dead by pointing out their popularity in Cornland, Illinois.

You also could have gone with "I'm rubber, you're glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you" for an equally bad ass post.

Well, my post was in reference to a 250F bomb, not a 450. Other than the first Honda 450's sucking valves in record time, most 450's seem to be pretty reliable. Then again, so were most open class 2 strokes. I just don't seem to hear anybody buying up old 250F's. And for what it's worth, I still have my original 2001 YZ250F. Although, after it scattered in amazing fashion I did put it back together as a 280F. Fun bike, almost the perfect bike as far as my preference to be on something somewhere between a 125 and 250 2 stroke. But it's a little boring after discovering the joys of the KTM144/150.

Hypocrite? Nah, I like both 2 and 4 strokes. My riding style suits a 450 best so that's what I buy. If I had money for 2 bikes you bet id have a 250 smoker over a 250f. I plan on keeping my 450 2 years then getting a 500af for when I can race +25.

No sir, my past 3 450s have been 100% my dime. Before that my dad did pay for my first 3 bikes. 4th one we split the cost, now it's all me. Usually parents stop paying for stuff after you turn 18, unless you're spoiled rotten.

actually people are voting with their wallet. KTM is on fire, you can't find a new YZ250, etc, etc

I just appreciate the fact that the 2 stroke isn't dead and that more and more people are realizing that. Two strokes have been an important part of motocross here in the US and having the powers that be attempt to kick them to the curb just doesn't set well with me. Bring the class structure in line and let the 2 and 4 peacefully coexist and no one will have a reason to be unhappy.Smile
Verbatim what I have been saying all along.

Don't you remember the whole argument? He blew up the trusty 450 and put a 500cc kit in it. But now he will tell you he didn't blow it up, he just wanted to spend money on a bigger cc kit. LOL

How "on fire" would KTM be if they made only a 250F and 450F with a poorly equipped enduro version of each? Maybe even throw in a 1993ish looking 85cc bike if you think it would help. LOL.

Seems all these choices KTM offers that are aimed at what people really want/need, including 2 strokes are what is escalating their game.

I think KTM has very up to date knowledge of its markets. They offer a wide range of products and they put a lot of effort in racing. KTM is on the top of its game, I expect good things from them. But you have to stay critical at all times, it will not be easy because the Japanese are still very skilled. If KTM will bring out a model that is rubbish it will put a serious dent in their reputation.

Time will tell

As far as 2 Strokes being dead, get some glasses and a hearing device for your ears. Because you are seriously missing something. Or you are just very stubborn, in that case you are talking to a wall if you ask me.

Well, of course 2-strokes are not dead. How many were sold in the 90's and early 2000's compared to 4-strokes? With that ratio you should see a lot more 2-strokes out there still.

Call Action Motorsports in York, PA and ask them if 2-strokes are dead.

Plus, the petition to the AMA is up to almost 4300 people who want to see 2-strokes in AMA Pro Racing.

Here we go again. . .

I dont really moto very much, so I cant comment on the local MX scene, but the GP races around here and loaded with smokers. I raced one on Easter Sunday just west of Olympia, WA and I believe only one 4 stroke podiumed out of all the classes. It was a total 2 stroke ass kicking contest.

I wish I had a 450 for the dunes, but for every other terrain type I do not enjoy riding them. Or the ear blowing noise they make. I got a 125 mx'r, 250 mx'r and a 300 enduro. After I acquire a 500 I may shop around for a cheap 450 for the sand, but it'll be a dust collector except for the 2-3 dune trips I do per year.

Actually, everything is going to be collecting dust since I got that 125. Its more fun than the law should allow!
