As it stands right now Reed has had a more successful SX career than bubba. I love it!
Reed has ridden the 250 class since '03 and he hasn't challenged RC in a single race outdoors. Stewart challenged RC in every outdoor race they rode together. That may not have been the smartest strategy on Stewart's part, but if someone is going to talk about "toughest, best rider" they may want to think about it a bit.
But hats off to Reed, he won the title, he gets the check, he gets to go on vacation.

From Cyclenews online:
"I worked my butt of this year," said Reed. "I had a new bike this year, and that made my job a lot easier. It has been a great season for me this year. This is very special. It was unfortunate that James Stewart, the defending champion got hurt, but this was a great year for us."
Reed isn't even off the floor of the stadium and Bubba is in his head...
A fighter like Reed knows in order to have the title of being the "best" you have to race the "best"
A true Champion would have rather raced Bubba and come in second than win this championship without Bubba being there - and from what I have heard from Reed, he knows this to be true...
Now quit complaining about it. Reed took the title straight up. The fact that Bubba couldn't keep it on two wheels yet again is Bubba's problem, not Reeds.
2008 SX CHAMP = CHAD REED.
END OF STORY.
Top 5 all time wins
1. RC 150 wins, 15 titles
2. JM 89 wins, 8 titles
3. BH 70 wins, ? titles
4. RJ 61 wins, ? titles
5. JS 57 wins, 3 titles *only 22 years old
Reed is not even in the top 10
Put the SX only stats up and those numbers speak for themselves.
Whknuckle, when i was saying toughest, i meant being able to push through pain and injury, it had nothing to do with results.
RC is diffinately the man with the results - no doubt.
Pit Row
1. JS 72 wins 9 years
2. RC 48 wins 6 years(missed 2004)
3. CR 35 wins 6 years
4. RJ 28 wins ?
5. BH 27 wins ?
6. JS 25 wins 2 years(missed 2005, 2008)
Reed is a good SX rider, but to be in the "GREAT" category you have to be well rounded.
2. Reed is a bad mofo but stewie will always own him.
3. That will be reeds last SX title , some new guns in the 450 class next year will be hungry.
my 2 cents.............
Here are some numbers for the season.
Qualifying time. Fasted 9 X out of 17
Heat race wins: 10 out of 17
Main event wins: 8 out of 17
Average margin of victory: 5.5 sec.
Now this looks good for any other rider but with RC and JS out of the series you would
expect a great rider like Reed would have a better set of stats.
How would RC do with no JS or CR in the series.
Or how would JS do with out RC or Reed.
I think both would go 17 for 17 in Qualifying /Heat races wins and Main event wins.
I have always said that Reed is the third fastest guy on the track but he is far from what
we have come to expect more from our MX / SX Champions.
So give the guy a break, with the situatiuon he has had to deal with this year i don't think there is anyone that would have done a better job including RC and JS.
he is the only rider to ride hurt.
Example:
The first year RC was on Honda he crashed really hard before the season started but
his camp keep it quiet till the season was over and not the SX season but the MX season.
If you look in the FOX photo book from that year there is a series of about five or six
photos that showed the crash plus he also went down at A1 just a few weeks later. He was pretty jacked up but he did not bring it up in every interview. He dealt with it just like everybody else.
The photo of Reed that was taken during the open ceremony (the next weekend after his) with his hand at his side made me laugh pretty hard, it was like look at me and how hurt I am. He can land off a 70 foot triple or blitz a the whoops but cant hold the on the handlebar when riding out on the track.
Why do we know so much about his injuries? As has been said, all of the guys are riding hurt...why do we have to hear about Chad's?
He is disliked because of things he has said and done. He is disliked even more because his fans are even more whiny.
If you think he's great, doesn't that stand on it's own?
