I don't know if there is a "right" crowd 😆

I had a similar Idea when i traveled to the US this spring. I wanted to ride a bit while over there, and since i wanted to do some off road riding as well as tracks, the usual MX Holiday all-inclusive companies did not work for me (most only allow track use). In the end i had to buy a bike and sell it before going back home (not as easy as it sounds haha). If there would have been the possibility to rent a bike from someone i would have done it. I personally would rent out one of my bikes to someone, given the right circumstances: it should be somewhat profitable, insured, and a big deposit which would pay for damages. But not my race bike 😆

No, nor would I get on another bike that I don’t personally know the maintenance of.

It would be a no for me, too.

On the other side, it would actually be cool if this was a thing. I'd love to hop on a plane and jet somewhere warm to spin laps for a weekend in January and February without having to load up and make a 16hr one way trip somewhere...

I'm interested.  Not in this, but something completely different.

In GA there are 2 places you can rent a dirt bike. Highland Park, and Duramtown. Both places are about 2.5 hours from Atlanta.

It is a thing.  Several so cal companies offer some great packages.

I have a couple street bikes that I specifically rent out (Sv650 and Sportster 883) I keep them serviced and the tires fresh.  There is a company called Rideshrare that will handle everything for a fee, but they are slow, and I usually just handle it myself.  If I lived close to a track then I would totally rent out dirt bikes.

I get peeved when someone twists the throttle or plays with the clutch on the stand...

I don't see how a third party could make this financially viable. You'd have to carry the liability insurance and have to have some type of pre-ride inspection to know the bike is mechanically sound. The bike's owner wouldn't rent it out if there was a chance of a renter coming back on them if they get hurt. You'd also have to have a post-ride inspection so the renter can pay for any damage. Then you have delivery. It's not reasonable to expect the renter to come pick it up from the owner, and if I was the owner renting out the bike, I'd expect the third party to pick it up and bring it back (which would also be the easiest way to do the pre and post ride inspections). Seems much more reasonable to buy a small fleet of bikes yourself, depreciate them, and then sell them after a season or two. Just my two cents though. I absolutely think there would be a rental market for bikes, but don't think there's a big market for owners renting out their own bikes through a service like this.

I know you can rent SxS's and farmer John quads at lots of ohv parks, but I haven't seen anyplace renting dirt bikes. It seems like anyone who can ride a dirtbike would already have one ?, you would need traveling dirt bike riders. Seems like a small demographic ?  You know what I would pay for ? A fleet of all the latest different brands and models at a track somewhere that I could test ride before buying. Like a demo day with all the brands.   The new KX327 looks awesome, but would I like the KTM HUSKY or BETA 300 2 stroke more ? Maybe the YZ250X or Beta X trainer would fit me better ? If I was seriously looking to buy a new bike I'd pay 3 or 4 hundred dollars to have a day to make the most informed purchase, maybe even 5 🤷‍♂️

Renting my bike out to a guy that's probably not a very good rider (or he wouldn't be renting one ?)  Naah been there done that. Might as well go grab a hammer and smash the levers and grips myself, maybe bend the bars a little while I'm at it, grab a surform and grind off some plastic and graphics... 😄

Fun Time Rentals out in Jawbone rents bikes from 50's up to 450's, quads and UTV's. Another does it up at Gorman as well.

Not my personal race bike, but if I lived in a mx "destination" warm state or lived near a popular track with open ride days (like Redbud or Millville)  I would buy a couple spare bikes to rent out if the financials made sense.

I would like to hit some tracks out of state and would personally rent a bike if I could.

This!

I ran a few numbers on my last bike such as the amount paid and what it sold for.  Once I factored in top end, timing chain, tires, chain/sprockets, suspension rebuilds, oil changes and any ancillary costs like graphics or replacement plastics. At 80 hours on a 250F costs over close to if not more than $100 per hour just to operate.   So you would have to charge a ton to be profitable.  Albeit the maintenance on certain things would be not quite be the same.  I can imagine 100 hour suspension service intervals, etc.

That's the number I came to also, but that is me doing the labor, and didnt include any damage.

AH, NO!On second thought ,sure if the rental cost is equal to the buy it outright cost or a very very substantial damage deposit and sign away your rights to sue.Way too many unknowns here.I know I wouldn't rent out a dirt bike to me lol.

I loan race bikes to friends or friends of friends all the time , but never take a dime, because that needs a contract.

Its a thing you do as a favour, you come here, i lend you a bike, i come to you and you lend me one.

Currently working on trying to find insurance for Daytona Vintage SX to come over from the UK and race in March.

I had this idea maybe 6 7 years ago. Where you run into issues is liability and insurance. I know people that buy trucks and nice cars and rent them out over I forget what app or site. And basically use it to pay it off fast then go trade it in and get a new one for pennies on the dollar out of their pocket.

My friend Chase might be interested, he's always looking for different bikes to ride.  Do you have any rentals available in Hawaii?

That is a hard NO! I don't ask to ride anyone else's bike nor do they ask me. Now, if one of my close riding friends is like, hey, can I ride your BETA to see how it compares to their bike, absolutely.

$100 an hour to operate? Are you guys doing a top end every other ride or something?

Thanks for the input, I have ran a dirtbike tour business with guided rentals before and it was great. I have included the options for the host to deliver and pickup the bike for an additional fee our platform is simply a marketplace for people to host guide rent and connect with other riders in the area
