If you thought Felds changes were rough, GNCC is doing the same thing. If you are a freelance videographer, and you want to cover the event, you are only allowed to upload FIVE minutes of footage of each race, and only 30 minutes of combined footage for the whole weekend! I know some of my local XC guys who go out to the GNCCs and make vlogs/edits potentially will be affected, no livestreaming I understand, but everything else is pretty dumb. IMO GNCC is not big enough to push this out.
Media Access & Application - GNCC Racing

With all the hoola re: this media issue and Feld, I was wondering if MX Sports (Coombs) were in agreement with it.... obviously they are. Who knows, maybe it was their idea !
It's pretty clear the rules apply to the "SMX League" which includes AMA Pro Nationals. References are to floor(sx)/trackside(mx) access.
These series like GNCC, Supercross, and Pro Motocross are seeing are seeing vloggers capitalize on their events. Now that these series are trying to profit from their own streaming coverage they no longer want the competition. Which sucks for the vloggers, because for the last 15 years or so it has been the vloggers that have really promoted moto events. Personally I believe that the more media the better and all press is good press.
Absolutely agree. Especially with GNCC, some of these vloggers are going deep in the woods and getting the good shots.

They’re being shortsighted with these rules.
Q: "How can we drive people to an already-obscure sport?"

A: "What about less media coverage?"
This sucks, On the Pipe highlights were about the only way i watched gncc races (especially after moving them to flow). Imo they had better coverage, better shots in better locations on track. Sad
Even the coverage last week on FLO Racing was shotty as ever and had technical difficulties. Here pay top dollar for something less than mediocre. Beat it nerds, I look for value in anything before a purchase and GNCC/FlO are surely not providing any value.
Interesting way to grow the sport.
The current cabal is a cancer on the sport.
MX Sports sold the broadcast rights to GNCC to Flo earlier this season and then these rule changes came the next round. I would be surprised if they got more than 500-1000 new subscriptions to Flo because of this, its 39.99 a month and everyone is pissed about it.
Imagine being a sponsor of one of these GNCC teams that was sold on 40k-60k views on the free Youtube live streams in addition to all of the additional eyes coming from other channels then halfway through the season its put behind a paywall with no input from any teams or sponsors.
Do you think this potentially leads to top riders losing some of their main sponsors ? I haven't heard any top bike/atv riders really speak on the switch to BLOW. I would love to hear what they think about it.
It was dumb enough with SMX, but this is just laughable with GNCC, a sport that has a hard enough time drawing in moto fans, let alone non-moto fans. GNCC is badass, but the races are long and difficult to spectate and people need short-form content (but more than five minutes) to see how cool it really is.
I understand that the sport is extremely hard to cover and I think Racer TV does a great job with the circumstances and people were perfectly fine with that since it was free on youtube (with ads they ran during breaks on the live stream not from youtube).
But then to expect people to pay four times more than they pay for peacock to watch the level of production SX and MX has is laughable.
All roads lead to Morgantown. Disgraceful
Too many independents putting out false headlines to get views as it distorts the facts. Same thing with SX and MX. Too many Deegan fights Webb headlines.
Its not and end all, Vloggers are creative, they still get to use 5 min of the actual racing, and 30 seconds from the official broadcast. A decent content creator can still do a lot with that, not to mention what they can do with AI.
Isn't GNCC on public land? I'm no lawyer, but if you can film without purchasing an entry ticket I don't see how they could enforce.
Pit Row
All privately owned.
haha on the pipe podcast videos got to good for them. what a dick head move, that must be the 100% wrong way grow the sport.
I can imagine it well as we sponsor the Red Bear Kawasaki and PHX Honda teams. I found out about the broadcast change same as everyone else, and now pay absurd Flo Racing rates just to watch GNCC when it used to be free... If we weren't sponsoring teams, I would have just quit watching. I'm sure many people did the same and viewership went to crap because of it. There's people complaining here about the cost of Peacock, but that's minimal compared to what Flo is charging!
So fewer viewers in general, plus severe limits on the other outlets that put eyes on our parts, and I'm left wondering what's the point? We primarily sponsor teams to drive awareness about our products and prove they preform. But if no one sees that, then... We're still going ahead as-is for 2027, but I've stopped trying to expand our reach in GNCC because of all this.
Billy, appreciate you stepping in with the woods guys. I think my next set of bar mounts will be coming from you as it’s something different than the XC gear setup, just because of your data analysis and interactions with normal dudes like myself here. 100% see the analytic viewpoint though, MX sports keeps shooting themselves in the foot.
They’re not trying to grow the sport fellas, off-road racing is in a down swing right now. The promoters are just trying to make money.
Come on big dog you know people that buy parts are learning about what to buy from a broadcast
No way dude. My local series is getting more and more turnout every weekend. Off road/XC is stronger than it’s ever been.
They used to publish the viewership for RacerTv on the GNCC page after race weekends when it was free on YouTube. I’ve noticed this stopped after the switch to FLO. I bet I could guess why.
It says it appies to video captured by "media" thank god we'll still be able to watch the hour long chest cam videos of Vet C racers humping their bars and getting offended when they get lapped.
Noone under 25 has the attention span to watch a video longer than 5 minutes, so I dont see this negatively impacting the future of the sport in the least.
I’m not sure what off-road series you attend, but the ones I’m aware of are booming. Motocross is a different story.
MxSports already makes enough money, they'll learn sooner or later.
I havent been back to a GNCC since they banned pit vehicles except stupid ass UTVs and I havent watched any since the FLO fuck-up.
