The title says it: non-moto is following the path of the moto-related section for the future (call this a trial period).

There will be no political threads allowed going forward, no political commentary, etc.

I'm completely over the same users arguing in circles and breaking basic guidelines on how to treat each other. It's like dealing with children, so the toy is being taken away.

I know it will take about a day or so for this to catch up to some of you, but I'm not going to give much leeway. First strike from here on out is a multi-week suspension; second strike (once back in from strike one) will be a minimum two-month suspension, and strike three will be a permanent ban.

Will we lift this in the future? I don't know, but I don't expect to for at least the remainder of 2026.

Probably for the better. Politics ruins everything . I had really hoped the  common love of moto would allow for more  in-depth conversions without the dumb  assumptions and attacks  that people make in the real world And to be able to really learn from each other . But I saw that not even the love of moto  helps .  And I know I'm not innocent of saying some dumb stuff myself.

I've been avoiding political stuff everyplace except for here, so it will be healthy for me to totally ignore the BS for a while and focus more of trying to be helpful with my posts.  Sorry for any part my posts have played in this ban ML  . I can not imagine the headache it is at times to try and keep this place going. Thank You for all that You do!

Serious question, "I had really hoped the  common love of moto" if this is your driving thought, why are you not more planted in "moto"? Why should that be anymore of a reason in "nonmoto" to agree on anything than gathering up all blue car owners and expecting them to agree on anything other than a car color? The whole point of nonmoto is other subjects than moto. Sometimes we do talk moto as it's a shit show over moto side. Here you only have to tolerate about half a dozen agitators  vs over there, it's 10 fold. My suspicion is, ML is overwhelmed right now and this one change will allow him to focus all his attention on "moto" right now. Due to family health issues I've stayed out of the political topics for quite a few months. But if you look at the list of topics discussed, we've actually been very light on the political ones recently. Which is why the timing is odd. Unless ML expects an explosion of politics with upcoming elections.

TM

Yah I agree the timing is odd on the politics ban.  I suspect its less to do with how things are now, and more about what they may turn into as things get more wild leading up to and through the elections if I had to guess.  I was thinking that things had not been that bad lately, so that made me think " maybe I'm a big part of the problem if I can not see one".  So that was good for some self reflection.

The best I can do in a single sentence as far as why talk politics on a moto message board.

I try to view things from many perspectives and understanding  the way  people think  helps me see things from multiple perspectives.

The why I thought that might  ONLY work in a place like this is harder to condense.

I've said this before, I never  came into any political threads to find people  I agreed with. I came to try and understand how and why people believed what they do. Both that I agreed with and disagreed with.  I've always loved learning and most pushback I have given in my posts are   because I'm trying to understand  how it impacts or doesn't impact  how somebody thinks of the subject.  How it did or did not factor  info into how they came to the political position they have.

As far as why I thought the love of moto would impact the conversations at all.

One of the amazing things I have noticed throughout the years is that people that would never  talk to each other if not for the common  love of riding have grown into lifelong friends.  In the group I rode with we had a Dr.  truck driver's, a commercial airlines pilot, a drummer for Godsmack , some landscapers , kids in school , a pharmacist ,  General contractors and other construction trades, car sales men and mechanics, bankers.  A very diverse group.      With as much as 40 years  between the youngest and oldest.  And I thought that people in here would be more open to a true honest dialog, knowing we all shared the love of the same sport and the good will that may provide in actually having a real back and forth  instead of a argument that ended in insults and personal attacks. And to a degree it did , but not to the level I had expected. I just had not really thought about how trolls would impact the conversations.

Hoping that instead of people just jumping to a conclusion , I had hoped people would have it in the backs of their minds that we all share the love for moto so that other person can not be  all that bad. In the real world its hard to find random people that have a bond like the one that exists with motocross people. And I thought that if anyplace, a motocross message board would provide the best shot at conversations that did not have a lot of preexisting negative assumptions.

Its why I never talk politics  anyplace else. Only with my mother and father, and they are both dead so they don't often have a lot to say these days. I was genuinely curious to see  how people with different beliefs about politics  got to  believing them and really get into the thought process. Not just write everybody off into what I think they are like or what others say people are like.   Just trying to get as complete of a picture as possible.  I've noticed throughout the years that most people I talk with agree on the big stuff. And it just breaks down when You dig in and offer an opinion on how we got there or how to fix or not fix something.  So I figured it would give the best shot at getting to talk about politics without it turning into a TV sound bite back and forth. I like to learn, and one thing learning requires is new information . Different opinions and ways of looking at information. I've always said You can always learn something from everybody if You are open to seeing it.

The single sentence part being the one following it.

It explains the why I entered into talking politics on here..

The rest explains why I thought it would be  different, and why I thought of all places it would make sense to try here.

Makes me wonder how many of the complaints ML gets stem from political posts. I don’t know ML personally, but I think he’s got enough on his plate that if there weren’t any complaints about political posts, he probably wouldn’t care. I could be wrong but I’d bet 2 beers and a bag of chips if people could scroll by without getting butthurt and running to the principal’s office this ban wouldn’t even be a thought.  What’s the real problem, anonymous guys arguing about politics online ? Or guys complaining to ML about the guys arguing about politics online ? I blame the crybaby’s who don’t have the willpower to ignore shit that pisses them off and move on.  Just a theory. 🤷‍♂️

What is your hypothesis on this test?

Do you draw conclusions?

You're a decent sort Sas and I think you have something to say of value but come on.

I think a sponsor has put pressure on Michael and he relented.

I mean...we are left to speculate because he did not give details much like the major motorcycle manufacturers do in their vague PR's when a rider performs bad/gets injured.

Oh I see said the blind man. I figured something like that it isn't a problem until someone complains about it. But I figured it was delicate members 🤨 I forgot about the sponsors. Makes sense. They pay the bills gotta keep them happy. Win win for ML and us

Well you're not the problem. But here's the flaw in you "brief" thesis. You go out riding, you meet someone you like. Next time you seek out that person, park next to them, but a new neighbor parks next to you. The new guy is an ass. So next time you avoid the ass but your other friend finds you. While all the like thinking people are having fun riding, so are the asses. They don't stop being an ass just because y'all ride a motorcycle.  When you show up here, you can't park away from the "asses". There in lies the distinction. So now your choice is to participate with asses or not participate at all. That's not to say someone who disagrees with you is an ass, it's that some people get their rocks off on agitation. And the more they do it, the better they get.  Politically, @LoudLove and I are very different but one day when we meet in person, he won't spit in my face, we probably would actually laugh at our differences. Pretty sure by now, you know which people show up just to cause chaos. Just know there are shitty people in all walks of life, no matter what subject you have in common. Pretty sure both you and Jeffrey Dahmer could exchange grilling techniques right up till the subject broadens. Having a subject in common is no indicator. Just to be clear, the example was just to show how 2 extremely different people could have a common subject, by no means was it meant that you eat people.

I think a sponsor has put pressure on Michael and he relented.

I mean...we are left to speculate because he did not give details much like the major motorcycle manufacturers do in their vague PR's when a rider performs bad/gets injured.

"Sponsors" can't be the reason.

Or else there'd be some kind of moderation over in moto every Saturday night, and all day Sunday, after the races.

At least around here, a thread usually makes it a page, maybe two, before it comes unglued.

Over there... it's like a daycare facility where the adults, that are supposed to be in the room, leave once the mom's in the minivans drop their screaming brats off at the front door.

Those brats can't possibly the the demographic that sponsor's are wanting to reach.

I wonder if Vitards is still acceptable? It's pretty benign and widely used throughout forums.

I was just answering a question .   If anybody is interested in the real reason I was talking politics on here they can read it. If not it doesn't matter to me.

No tests, no hidden agenda. I had said most of what I said in that post  at least 2 or 3 other times so I know  that many people do not read the long posts. But if I was going to come to some sort of conclusion  , I would say most people are using cell phones that think my posts are really long and the worlds attention span is slowly dissolving, and that my writing and story telling ability is just not that good.

Maybe I did have a more honest example of the real world now that you mention it.

Are people that are asses online  themselves when they are  having fun trolling? and fake when you interact in person?  Which version of them is the real person?

I  didn't expect nice and totally civil.  I grew up with my mother getting death threats on what felt like a daily basis  I've seen a lot of the dark side of people. And expected  the ass side to be much harsher and not as subtle as they are. I could care less about that. At first the trolling was annoying, but  then I figured it was just a part of the process.  I just had hoped to  have had more real interactions were people  would defend a position and counter information that I had used to form my opinion about something instead of deflecting or name calling or  being Trolls. I really didn't care if I was talking with A serial killer or Billy the welder.

I still did learn.

Like I said, real world we choose to hang with people we like, and avoid people we don't. It's much harder to choose to be a good person online vs an ass. You're constantly bombarded with trolls that you can't park on the next lot to avoid. You have to make a decision no matter how hard they troll you, to not engage. A while back in the Epstein thread I got tired of being called a "pedo lover" for days on end and renamed someone "fuck head", guess who got the time out. Regardless, in real life you'd never choose to be around those people long enough to get to that.

Well you're not the problem. But here's the flaw in you "brief" thesis. You go out riding, you meet someone you like. Next time you seek out that person, park next to them, but a new neighbor parks next to you. The new guy is an ass. So next time you avoid the ass but your other friend finds you. Anybody that was honestly sharing their opinion with me, I wouldn't think of them as bad people and I'm sorry if my pushback made people mad it was not intended to .  And really the only people I thought negatively of are the trolls. I don't want to understand the way somebody thinks that gets enjoyment from pissing people off. It sounds like an unhappy person and I've spent enough of my life unhappy.

I don't mean any ill will towards anybody that I interacted with on and pushed back on any political stuff. I'm sorry if it came across that way.  I've never thought of people with different political beliefs as being bad people or I really wouldn't have wanted to try and understand  that much.  If I pushed back on something somebody said, it meant that I valued their opinions on something. Not that I did not value opinions of people I did not push back on too. Just trying and failing at keeping my replies shorter.  And I'm sorry if I came across like an ass at times.

Is it some sort of litmus test that you set forth to see if we actually read your short novels?

What is your hypothesis on this test?

Do you draw conclusions?

You're a decent sort Sas and I think you have something to say of value but come on.

I was just answering a question .   If anybody is interested in the real reason I was talking politics on here they can read it...

Sorry man, I was in a mood last night.

At least you do us the kindness of paragraphs .

I just got back from 2 hours at the dentist. You fuckers are in for it. JK

It happens, although I was going to tell Sasquatch the same thing but I didn't. It's constructive criticism. And he's right, some people don't read some of his posts because they are too long. I'm one of them. Brevity is the soul of wit. Not saying that I have mastered it but I try and take a second look at my long posts to see where they can be trimmed down.

I feel a bit bad as I do not like bringing negativity to the message board under most circumstances. There is too much of it already.

For example,... this talk of Ducati signing Colt Nichols in the wake of Dylan Ferrandis retirement. I'm just not going to say what a stupid idea this is. I'm not going to say that Colt is done at this point and just milking paychecks off his ability to speak well and get a 12th place twice a year. I will not point to his constant excuse making. I'm serious... I'm just not going to go negative!

It's tough sometimes but I feel better when i stick to my principals,

2 hours at the dentist ?  uuuuugh that's an hour and 59 minutes too long.  You ever voice to text a post ? I learned my lesson on that shit. Between the wrong words and rambling sentences they read like a 4th grader on speed wrote them. Nowhere near pros level of deciphering needed but enough to make Falcon cringe lol. Maybe the 4 word thinking thread needs a revival 😃      No politics or else !! lol
