Mathess posted a picture over at Pulpmx of the Bomber riding "Reedy's 08' Honda CRF450".

I'm fascinated by the fact that Reed owns a 3 year old Honda, especially since he wasn't on a Honda 3 years ago. What do you guys think about that? OK, let's say Honda sent him one back in late 07' or whatever.....wouldn't they have taken it back already? Or wouldn't he have gotten rid of it already? I don't know, I just find it unusual and was curious what everyone else thought.

Maybe he got it because he wanted to see the difference between the new crf 450 and the 02-08 version.

I am sure lots of the top guys have "other bikes" than the ones that they are contractually obligated to ride...

Sometimes there are no cameras around and you just like to ride what you like to ride.

It is a bit strange I agree though, maybe he bought it and never rode it, or maybe it was those feelings that were the genesis for his really wanting to ride red.

Reed has had it there. He even talked about the differences in the 08 to 09 model (i think the years are right) back then. No one put it together though that he was talking from experience.

Reed has been without a contract at the end of every season. That he would go out and buy a Honda at some point to just ride doesn't seem that strange because the '08 Honda is the favorite of everyone I know that could make a SX main.

during the off season, when cr was trying out different stuff, it was said that he had picked up a couple year old cr450 and liked it, but anyways....so what?!

I'm not too suprised. McGrath raced a 93 frame till 97. So have a practice bike that's a couple years old doesn't seem too crazy.

Guys, I would be willing to bet that at the end of 08 Chad COULD have bought the bike from JT$ since he was switching to Suzuki the next year. Those 2 hang out a lot together. It's not that far fetched.

Chad said in an interview on PulpMX during the fall that he bought the 08 CRF 450 in 08 and 09 because he wanted to ride a Honda. He could just never make it work till now.

Having been to some private tracks around the central Florida area you do see some odd color combinations with some pro's. Almost having to do a blood oath before you leave the track also.

There has been three generations of the CRF 450. 02-04, 05-08 and now 09 +

I thought I read somewhere he bought the 08 honda after his L&M contract wasn't renewed and before he signed with suzuki.

Chad of all the top riders has had the most possibility of trying out whatever he wants. The last several years he has had 1 year deals, so to think he wanted to try something else between those contracts isn't much of a stretch.
