People that bring their non-service dogs in stores and other places where they're not allowed. It's a big problem for dogs that actually have the training to be in public. Sydney used to get upset for days when another dog tried to attack her. And by tried to attack her I mean the other dog was straining at it's leash barking aggressively and would have actually attacked her had it not been restrained. Some people get offended when the store askes what tasks the dog is trained for. Which the store/restaurant has a right to and should be obligated to do. I get sometimes flamed on the service dog threads for advocating that there be some sort of licensing that you need for bringing your dog in places. And truth be told, some service dogs never need to leave the house and don't need public spaces training but if you're out and about, it's pretty damn important. There are many instances that SDs have tens of thousands of $$s invested in their training as well as time bonding that have been ruined from such events. Rant over.

I’m a dog person but dont want someone else’s dog in my space while eating. Especially if I’m forking over some righteous bucks.
As someone that allergic to dogs…it is incredibly frustrating when people feel like they need to bring their dogs everywhere they go….ill gladly get sick for a well trained (and NEEDED) service dog…but I hate when people just being their dogs everyone they go just because they want too… its getting ridiculous…
These days I have to ask for pet free hotel rooms…and most of the time they aren’t pet free because people bring their dogs in anyway.

What if you get into a traffic accident? What if someone has a bigger and meaner dog? What if your dog sees something and takes off after it? There's a lot of what ifs? in life. Are we living in some backwater where the power goes out daily?
The power could be out for quite a while in even a minimally insulated home and dogs and cats would be fine as long as they have water.
I actually can’t tell if you are talking about a power outage sarcastically, or if you actually believe that it’s a huge issue.
I understand why you feel that way, but a properly trained (and handled) service dog would barely be noticed in most restaurant settings.
The biggest problem, I think, is the fad where everyone began calling their pets ‘Emotional Support Animals’ and expecting to take them everywhere. The vast majority are not trained, especially not to the level of a true service animal. Those are the types of animals that TM is referring to in his initial post I think.

I'm not sure sure which is worse, some dog under a table in a restaurant, licking it's asshole or some little brat screaming to the top of it's lungs. Doesn't really matter to me much, I don't go to restaurants anymore.

I like dogs WAY more than most people, but there are limits.
Out west, many restaurants, coffee shoips etc have outdoor patios that are pet-friendly. Great!
But inside restaurants, grocery stores etc? Not cool. TRUE service dogs, no problem. "Emotional; support animals"? If you're that goddam fragile, maybe you should stay at home and close the curtains and watch Oprah till 4 a.m.
Place like Walmart, who cares..... actual 4-legged dogs are the highest form of life in there, mostly 🤣 Bike shops, Home Depot, etc.... no problem, just clean up after your dog if something gets dropped!
As someone said, it's the OWNERS who are the issue. Some 'people" will walk around the bakery aisle with their cocks hanging out, some will bring an aggressive black pitbull. Same crowd will shit in the street, too.
There are MANY places I don't take my dogs, out of CONSIDERATION for others. Simple common decency, FFS.
It's not hard, but many of these barbarians nowadays have never heard the word.

I wasn’t being sarcastic. I just look at possible reasons why it might be a critical issue, such as, a health issue that causes heat intolerance.

I not infrequently have patients that refuse admission when they're told their dog can't stay in the hospital with them. It's absurd. Needs to be regulated somehow to protect the very small number of people who have legitimate purpose.
I'm also all for breed restrictions for all of society. Pits need to be extinct.

I'm a pit lover but no longer own them. They need a LOT of early socialization and honestly I don't like people enough to give them that.

First thing, by law Sydney is not required to wear a vest. I do it so people leave her alone and stay back a bit. So if I see a dog in the store without a vest it's not a red flag for me. If I can walk down the same aisle and your dog has the temperament or training to ignore Sydney, right after I pass, you're long forgotten. If your dog does not have the natural temperment or training and goes ballistic on Sydney or some child, you're one of them. Lastly, I see you had the sense to put your dog on a box. It's really rude to put a dog in the cart where the next person unknowingl will lay their produce and groceries after a dogs ass was just sitting in it. I love dogs, they make people happy. 99% of people will look at Sydney and the biggest smile appears on their face. Misbehaven dogs makes it harder for everyone.

If you came in the restaurant after us, you'd never know Sydney was there. We've had many times she's settled before the waitress comes by and not even the waitress knows she's there till we get up and start walking out. Most times they say "I wish kids behaved as well as your dog"
