... and wouldn't win the MXGP Title this year in the 450 class, would you start Supercross 2027 in the 250 or 450 class?

Not "he wouldn't win", he won't win. It isn't possible anymore.

And no way in heaven or earth he will step back on a 250 for professional racing.

He's way too big and he is also used to the 450 and pretty much being the fastest guy on it in MXGP for two years now. Him doing selected 450 SX rounds is a much better idea than him racing 250s. Prado did 450 SX straight after only having 2-3 weeks of SX practice and riding SX for the first time before 2024 A1. He did pretty decent, even won a heat and two top 10s If I remember correctly out of 4 races. I'd consider Lucas just as talented if not more. He'll do fine. His current injury is what makes me actually worry about him though.

An added bonus is that he is on a familar bike. Should ride 450 sx and see how that goes.

Select 450 rounds for his first year might be smart.  Would never happen though.

This probably sounds crazy, but he isn't going win a supercross title this year anyway, so why not keep him out until Daytona.   Let him burn a million laps at the test track on a 450 just getting familiar with the bike on a sx track until March.   Start very slow and ramp up the speed.  If he tries to be ready for A1, especially after his knee injury, it's just asking for trouble.

So true. Neither brother should race until Mx if you ask me. Burn a million sx laps, crush Mx, race smx, then race sx in 28 full season.

But these inbred teams are too dumb snd too greedy. They’ll rush them out for a1 and roll the dice on derailing the sx season with injury, Mx, and years to come.

He's young and cocky and thinks he good for 450sx... but supercross is a completely different animal.. and the top ten are straight up gnarly.... one yr in 250s would help him a ton against lesser competition to learn the ropes.. plus they have a few weeks off compared to 450... less races = less chance of injury...

But... man... his sciatic injury is no joke... we still dont know if he'll even be back for des nations... hope he can return to his former speed... thats def not guaranteed at this point...

He should go ahead and sign up for the full 450sx season. Show everybody how it’s done.

Not really. Prado had 3 week camp after winning his first title and rode a handful of races in his offseason with no pressure. Then he came back did a full camp, rode two races, got hurt and then did an entire camp again before being ready this year. It was a multi year plan and it still didn't end with him making every round.

Are you not confusing Moto with SX?

If skipping SX or doing select SX races arent an option then 450 SX. I dont think there's any chance he drops to a 250 ever again

Why would he want to race half a Championship?

At this point, i am more concerned that he can ride properly at all.

Do you know how you learn the quickest? By racing. Lucas is a racer and he will race.

I wish they would just skip SX in 27.

My guess is that SX is the sole reason they are going to the US, so why would they skip that?

Yep most international riders are lured to the US by the SX dream, not outdoors.

Hes too good to mess around on a 250 hes already been on a 450 for a while now.

If i recall correctly the recent imports from MXGP Bar Prado came from MX2(250 class).

The only rider on similar level in 250s is Davies, it would be a waste of time to go on  a 250 unless he wants to collect silverware which would be easy given how week the 250 class is.

He wouldn't be my pick to win either coast on a 250.  SX ain't MX.

Eye test tells me he's the best European to come over since Kenny, he would do well, Ferrandis did it in his first year against stiffer competition and Lucus is better than Ferrandis.

I’d say run the first 4 rounds and see where he lands. If he’s way off then shut it down. There’s no guarantee of health either way. Seems to be as many injuries in practice as the races. Jorge crashed a few times in practice killing his kawi prep. Jettson last season etc

9/4/2026 7:56am

I don’t agree with the people who say he and his brother should skip SX next year. At some point they are going to have to learn to race SX and no amount of laps at the practice track is going to teach them that. Look at the practice tracks many pros ride at, they all ride the same line the whole way around, they might as well be a train on the train tracks. Real SX has ruts and other riders you have to navigate which changes things completely.

I would go 450 assuming that's the one that would guarantee me the most money in my first contract in case I crash constantly and never get to the second contract.
