Yes, I agree with this as well, but didn't want to say anything. With ML, I think it largely comes down to "say it like you mean it" or like it's important. Project it to your audience and that doesn't mean to yell. Some of it might be a level of confidence or lack thereof. For me, it's not all about an accent.
I like Daniel Blair on Pulp when I catch him there. On his podcast, he speaks differently; he really PUNCHES every 5th or so word. When I hear it, I get distracted and it dilutes the message. I like his insight and hearing his opinion, but the rhythm/cadence is an interesting choice. He talks normal on Pulp.

He might be speaking that way in an attempt to develop his own "signature" of how his show sounds/flows. I have a bit of a hyper-sensitivity to the manner in which people speak and my mind always wanders when he does "punch/talk" thing. THEN I start thinking about how he doesn't sound like that on Pulp, lol!
It feels like he's talking down to me and that he thinks I'll ONLY understand him if he PUNCHES every 5th word. Nope. I understand.
The thing is now is that I'll look at the title/topics and THEN determine if I wanna click to listen...before it was an automatic click to listen.
That said, I like his perspectives, opinions insight, etc.
Man that's exactly how I feel! I also feel like it wasn't like that at first and I only noticed it after the big expose of RC and Diffey haha
It's like he's the authority or when he has an idea about how to 'fix' something it's the best idea we'll hear, so then if he makes a mistake about something or I disagree it frustrates me more than it should haha (That's definitely a me issue though) but like you say it's mostly good content
