The rumor was “false.”

In his press day interview with Lewis Phillips, Haiden Deegan said “No, that was false..” when asked about the rumor that he wanted $100k start money to race for Team USA at this year’s MXoN. He explained that he didn’t want the team to “lose money” and that he was glad the team was standing up for itself.

So, how did our media guys and podcasters get this all so wrong? Who started the rumor, and why did they run with it? And why did it take so long for someone, anyone to ask the question that Lewis (thank you!) finally asked?

Too bad Lewis didn’t follow up and ask if Haiden would have joined the team if Star were paid.

You know when a criminal pleads not guilty it doesn’t mean they are not guilty right?

Going directly to the source for the answer doesn’t mean the source will be honest… especially when the source would suffer in the eyes of the fan if his answer was ‘yeah I ain’t representing USA unless you pay me…’

So all he did was give the answer he is incentivised to give…  and then tried to add some bullshit about being worried about his team spending money… right after he tells a story about his private flights….

It doesn’t make any sense to believe him… how are you so gullible…

The entire industry of credible people are all saying the same thing and then haiden nervously tries to save face in an interview because fans are pissed and thats somehow “proof” LOL. Ok. He has done the exact same thing for 5 straight years in a row now like clockwork but na this time he was 110% about to go for realz this time… Gtfoh 🤣

No wonder so many ppl fall for scams these days jeeesus.

I hope this puts to rest the notion that Brian Deegan is a master at marketing. These lame excuses and contradictory explanations are so amateur.

Our media guys didn't start a rumor, they reported what multiple sources told them.

Nobody believes you, Doucheboy. You weren't going to this race unless you got paid and your benevolent boss covered for you. Again.

In the end I don’t care what he says or excuses as to why he’s dodged this event every year. If he truly wanted to represent the USA he’d be there. Period, end of story. If you don’t want to go fine, but at least stop waiving the US flag on the podium for photo ops “Captain America”

Right. Bro can't even keep a normal straight face while answering the question. I can't believe people keep falling for it.

No, they didn’t start the rumor, but they didn’t report who did start it, either. They just ran with it, and by doing so, lent it a certain level of credibility. Most of us were like “yup, that sounds like something Deegs would do…” But… none of the media guys were able to confirm it past the rumor stage.

Then Big Lew stepped up and asked him flat out…and he denied it. I wonder if he would have denied it if asked earlier, before the message board blew up about how bad it was?

Right 🤣🤣🤣🤣 get off the pipe.

It was made very clear what the demands were from Deegen.

Now he's back peddling, they are worse than the Alessi family when they were racing, Deegen couldn't lie straight in bed.

Yea no one, certainly not someone who’s built a career off social media would ever lie to save face 🙄

If it were true, how do you think Deegan would have answered that question?

Again, this is the the guy that lied about injuring his wrist while the surgical scar was in view.

“Why doesn’t someone ask him, Why doesn’t someone ask him?”.

Someone asks him.

“No, thats not what i wanted to hear, he’s lying.  I believe the unsubstantiated rumor”

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I actually hated his response more than the rumors.   He's all talk and no bite.  It’s a real shame.   But fuck it.  We have 3 riders more than capable of putting in some great scores.   And the best part is they are HONORED to represent the USA.

The question assumes that Deegan has had this position all along. Now that the team is filled he can say anything he wants. It's the exact same dance as '24.  Kind of a ridiculous question for Lewis to ask AT THIS TIME.

It's a missed chance, I would ask him: "Are you sure? Because my sources and your weird smirk smile says something else."

This answer is so inconsistent. First and foremost, all teams are operating at loss and financed through sponsorshipsto be able to run. Racing itself is a marketing cost for OEMs. Ask ML how much money he made on his team.

He can request to see Star P&L statements to prove if there are "making any money". It would have better if he just said racing is expensive and Star did not budgeted for this race thus can't afford it.

I try to just skip past the deegs stuff but man, that kid just gets on my nerves.

I do not get the streamer culture stuff but I have a Twitter and get exposed to it, and deegs reminds me so much of the stuff I see with them. He is always like laughing/over reacting/animated to super basic straightforward questions. It’s like their shtick to engage people I guess? A guy like tomac or sexton is faced with that question would just be like “yeah no I didn’t ask for money” then move on. It must be a tiktok brain condition to just sensationalize everything.

He doesn't have to provide any proof.  The one's who are saying he demanded start money or that he's afraid to race are the one's that have to provide proof.  It's pretty apparent that most of you haven't taken so much as a basic course in logic in college.

And no, the "entire industry of credible people" are not all saying the same thing.  That's more claims you Deegan haters are making up. Learn the difference between an assumption, speculation and a fact.  You saying GTFOH does not count as evidence of any kind.  Also, learn to count. Deegan entered the pro class in 2023 so the 5 straight years is yet another claim you are making that has no evidence.

Pop Shmoke probably proactively added the excuses for Assen 2027. So, that makes 5 straight years.

I was going to ask at Budds Creek, but figured it was worthless as he'd say "nothing's decided yet but we're working on things."

I would have followed up further, but Yamaha PR told me to wrap it up after that question (I'd had him for a little while).

If a trial was held as to whether or not he demanded to be paid, and all witnesses put on the stand under oath, Hayden Deegan would be found guilty on all counts by a jury of his peers.

Let’s not forget Davies won’t be racing MXoN either! 🤬🤬

Star not providing bikes is not an excuse to not race.
As it’s not an excuse for Deegan not racing!

I’m Mentioning Davies in this thread because almost every thread on here turns into a thread about Deegan….
