That's a terrible call. Outside his Kawi contract, Chase has conflicting deals with A-Stars and Monster. Additionally, the Ducati has a narrow set-up window. As talented as he is, he seems to always be, ahem, chasing bike set-up.

Whether it’s SX, MX, SMX, or WSX, the amount of complaining coming from the media, riders, fans, and the industry these days has become exhausting. No venue is ever good enough. The track isn’t right. The conditions are wrong. The stadium sucks. The city isn’t convenient. The airport is a nightmare. The concessions are terrible. The list goes on and on. ...Poker was probably more exciting. MXGP class was down to 9 regulars after Gajser didn't come to China, mix in a a few locals who were 3 laps down at the end, Aussie Dylan Walsh, Brian Hsu on a Chinese bike and Ivo Monticelli who was at work in Italy on Thursday when he got the last second call to replace Gifting. Not the most shining example of a premier race series? Chinese round needs to be taken off the schedule.

It's been said 100's of times on Vital. The U.S. amateur system is broken. We turn out guys that know how to ride, but don't know how to race. When the feeder system is broken you develop major gaps in talent...and that's what's happened over the past 15 years. The 250 class is full of arrested development. There's a couple of reasons the rest of the world is coming here to race our series. First, Infront is starving them and second, our money is fairly easy pickings...especially in our outdoors series. 100% fact. Motorsports in general lost a great deal of talent when Speed folded. Dave Despain, Robin Miller, Bob Varsha, Steve Matchett, David Hobbs and the lovely and talented Ms. Bates......she was the epitome of a guy's girl........*sigh*........those were halcyon days.

Erin is the best, and that era of coverage was the high water mark. When I watch races from 2012-2014ish it has a such a different feel. The audio with Speed, and then Fox, was a lot better than it is now. The bike noise was louder, and more focused than it is now. And it's probably an unpopular opinion, but Ralph and Fro were nowhere near as bad as the rhetoric made them seem.

Vital is a weird place, man. Dudes bagging on Beta, who actually builds a legit bike, has a dealer network, and sponsors teams. Meanwhile, praises are being sung and anticipation is building for bikes with legacy decals slapped on them, stamped out en masse in China, with motors and suspensions probably held together with Phillips screws. The Bultaco of tomorrow...

Yes, more motorcycles—and properly reviving a brand—is absolutely welcome. But if this is simply a half-hearted effort to cash in on a legacy and build a brand off someone else’s past success, then no thanks. China can pump out widgets all day long, but they still seem to struggle when it comes to building a truly authentic brand.
