Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Grand Prix winners, Lucas and Sacha Coenen, will transfer from MXGP FIM World Championship competition to AMA SuperMotocross for 2027 and onwards.
The Belgian twins signed a multi-year deal to remain as Red Bull KTM factory riders and embarked on a successful first wildcard appearance in the AMA Pro National motocross series in Colorado. Lucas, who held the red plate as MXGP world championship leader in just his second season in the premier class with the KTM 450 SX-F, and Sacha –in MX2 title contention with the KTM 250 SX-F – have already earned multiple Grand Prix winners’ trophies this season.
Lucas finished 5th and 2nd in his two full-time MX2 years before classifying as 2025 MXGP runner-up in his rookie campaign; becoming the sport’s youngest-ever premier class GP winner at the same time. Sacha has been a front-runner in MX2 from the outset. He claimed at least one Grand Prix in MX2 for the last three years and grasped the red plate in 2026 as he remains in play for the championship. In 2027 Lucas and Sacha will contest the AMA 450SX/MX and 250SX/MX classes respectively with the East/West scheduling still to be decided.
Lucas Coenen: “I’m pumped to be able to confirm that we’ll be in the U.S. next year. When we went to Thunder Valley it was amazing and we’ve also been bringing the results for the team in GPs until some bad luck with the hip problem. 2027 will be a big change for the family but it’s a dream to make this move. Sacha Coenen: “Super-excited. We still have big goals for the rest of MX2 this year but to have this deal confirmed means we can focus on the target and also get organized for 2027. There will be a lot to learn but it’s what we want to do. It’s very cool to have this opportunity. I can’t wait already.”

What a massive loss for the GPs. With the stars of MXGP near the end of their careers, they really need some exciting young guys to step up and establish themselves.

Well 450s at least. Sacha will kick everyone’s teeth in in the 250 class. None of our guys are at that level in the 250 class. He just beat them all with a broken collar bone for fucks sake!

Lucas jumping into SX is a tall order. just hope both survive long enough to make it to mx
Selected SX rounds and put the focus on outdoors/SMX in their first year would be cool to see. I hope they don't do the full SX schedule with limited practice, specially not Lucas with 17 rounds of SX. Obviously they have a whole team behind them with more knowledge and they know better than us, but it would be sad if they wasted a full year just to crash out and override. I also think they do need a break once they're in the US, their schedule this year is insane. Apparently they are doing SX Paris aswell
I mean Prado did it in 2024 aswell with only a couple weeks of practice before A1 while riding SX for the first time basically. He did well but he also only did 4 rounds. 17 rounds for Lucas would be crazy.
Sacha doing supercross will be something to see. I’ll be surprised if he makes it out without an injury

Money talks and US circuit is where's at. Sascha will bring lots of excitement to MX season, IF he doesn't injure himself during SX and with his die trying is a tall order. That being said for his well being, imo, he was better off staying in MXGP, time will tell.

That would be a good match up but I think he’s going to be racing a 450 next summer! (This is just a guess assuming that he wins his SX championship again)
Why would he be racing a 450 next summer? 1 full year on a 250 then move up to a 450 makes no sence, he's only 18?
If he wins the SX title again next year he'll be forced to move up to the 450 class in 2028.
Racing a 450 outdoors next year would make for an easier 450 transition than jumping straight into 17 SX races and 11 MX races in 2028.

Personally, I think we'll see him move up in 2028. If he doesn't win the 250SX title next year, he'll be eligible to race 250SX for a final year. I could see him doing that and then moving up to the 450 outdoors in 2028.

Because he would have to move up to 450s full time in ‘28 if he wins the SX title again next year. The current trend that seems to be working is to move up to 450 in the summer instead of making your 450 debut in SX.

Well, they did come over here on a borrowed bike, a team they didn't know, on tracks they have never ridden and did pretty dang good.
They are amazing talents,will win races,but crash a lot and won not one single title in europe.
I hope your wrong, but your probably not! lol If they can just survive supercross and hit the MX season healthy we may see some title races.

Great news for US promotors. Those brothers will be tamed by supercross if they want to ride their balls to the wall style.
Please boys, dont worry about getting beat in SX in your rookie AMA season. Getting through healthy and uninjured to the outdoors will gain much respect from moto fans.
The MX2 class is way further advanced than the current AMA 250 class. They have plenty of exciting young guys.
