Deegs is just laying the groundwork for why he won't go.  Not getting paid sounds better than getting beat doesn't help his market value.

The amount of adults who are so bent out of shape about everything that comes from their camp makes me laugh and I'm not even a big fan or anything. I can just see how sad and small it makes everyone who doesn't stop ranting look.

Summed it up perfectly.

Nuance would be understanding that it is a person’s choice to engage in the rhetoric, it is a person’s choice to hate or dislike a rider. We are all in control of our own emotions. Saying Deegan brings it on is a cheap cop out for having a shitty attitude and not controlling your own emotions.

It would be my guess that Deegan’s antics have very little consequences in most of our lives, and expending so much energy like some do is not the fault of Deegan’s, but their own.

Like Cooksey said, Deegan is riding a dirt bike, he’s not splitting atoms.

Wear those downvotes like they were a compliment. In these threads, it just means you're a normal minded person.

Did you see the recent thread (with poll) on the “average age of vital users” ?! …explains all need to know…

I have been a fan of the MXDN since the 70's...but I also feel that we are asking the riders to take a huge risk that they basically have to pay out of pocket to attend but receive little to nothing for the risks that they take. It's time that the promoters and the manufacturers start paying these guys through bonuses and prize money....it is really ridiculous that we are asking professional riders to basically rider for free or literally costing them money to go....the MXDN is the pinnacle professional MX race that pays less than winning as an amateur at LL...

Just curious, did the Michael Jordon, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and the rest of the Dream Team get paid for the 1992 Olympics get paid? Doucheboy wont like the answer.

AI Overview
No, the players on the 1992 U.S. Olympic "Dream Team" were not paid a salary or appearance fee by the International Olympic Committee, USA Basketball, or the Olympics. They received only standard Olympic per diem allowances for basic expenses, though their regular NBA contracts continued uninterrupted. [1, 2]

Compensation Details
  • No Direct Pay: Governing bodies did not provide a wage or stipend for playing in the tournament.
  • Standard Per Diem: Players received modest daily expense money just like other Olympians.
  • Indirect Financial Gain: Stars maintained their massive multi-million dollar NBA salaries and gained major boosts to their personal brands and global endorsement deals. [1, 2]

34 years ago no they didn't get paid although they were allowed in as NBA pros for the first time. The athletes in the Olympics have been paid the last 20 or so years including NBA players.....so I'm not quite sure what your point is since the Olympics have been giving every athlete $10k as stipend and each country has been paying athletes for medals for years, I broke it down above. Again you are making it about Deegan not me. All the riders should be paid...The Olympics is a quasi amateur event and every athlete gets paid....MXDN is 100% professional event and nobody gets paid but the promoter.....You guys bitch about the riders not making enough money for what they do but then when the subject comes up about the MXDN and them getting paid you act like it is the worst thing in the world....Make up your mind 🤷‍♂️

Where do you get he is "Demanding"? and where do you get the "preferential" treatment from? Is simply starting the conversation to pay riders somehow bad? I mean doesn't it seem odd that everyone BUT riders get paid? Its about the riders anyway.

This is the problem, there is ZERO middle ground with anything to do with Deegan.

I also think its funny you think Deegan is the 1st to ask about being paid.

Like you really think after all these years no one else has asked?  Like come on. Use some common sense.

LoL...Since you find it so funny that most folks see Deegan as being the 1st rider to demand being paid to race the MXDN...please prove your point and list all the other American riders who've demanded to be paid to race the MXDN.  Good luck with that.

Deegs comes up with a different excuse every year on why he's not representing the US racing the MXDN and it's been different each time, this is in contrast to him going out of his way to wave the American flag.  At this point, my opinion is the same as a lot of others ... This year, he knows he'd be considered the team capt and wants no part of getting smoked by a number of Euro 450 riders in France as that doesn't fit the bad boy image he's trying to put out there.  My bet is on him finding an excuse to not go to the MXDN (again).

You are so full of crap

This has only truly been an issue in the past 24 hours since the Deegandashian’s came up with a new excuse to dodge the Euros.

It’s sure as hell not about money, the Deegandashian’s have money.

It’s one race for your country…try to get that through your thick skull.

You look dumb lying this isn’t about you trying to kiss ass protecting the Deegandashian’s.

You're projecting and you know exactly what my point is.

Our sanctioning body has never paid our riders a salary to represent our country at the MXdN. If this little douche wants to sit home that weekend, let him. If he's so valuable to his sponsors, let them pay him.

He'll waive that flag, but only for a fee.

Dude you've got a serious case of DDS, this is an issue that has been discussed for years, Matthes has been saying it for 10yrs..."every rider should be paid or the opportunity to be paid in a professional MX race" and somehow you have a problem with every rider getting paid to race a professional MX race....Do you spend your own money to work for free?

Yes they do. Do you know how many schoolteachers dip into their own pockets to buy school supplies for families who can't afford to every year? My own brother has done this. This is such a tired, disproven argument.

Every one of us on this forum would have given our left nut to be able to race a dirt bike professionally.

To make your analogy more accurate...

Your brother would be buying school supplies for kids whose parents drive $80,000 cars and live in 3000 square foot houses.

Why should your brother(the riders) do that when the parents(promoter) make lots of money?

The MXoN is just a shuffled up MXGP race without the US.  My opinion is the promotor should fund the US Teams coming.  Not pay them, but pay for the travel and expenses etc.  That would free up the funds from the teams to add bonuses to riders and hopefully send our best.

Why is not in their contract? The top guys are paid a lot of money to race for a factory team for the year. Suggesting they are not paid for a particular race seems odd. Why not have an MXDN clause that ensures they are reimbursed for travel for this race just like any other race?

They are getting paid - by their teams and sponsors.

Outside of the SMX playoffs, how much do riders get from the purse money each round?  Doesn’t even come close to covering the expense of racing.

No elite motorsports that I know of have a structure where the promoter/organiser pays enough in purse money to sustain the racing effort.  It just doesn’t work that way.

Smokescreen deflection to cover for the Deegandashian’s latest tactic to dodge the Euros and do something for his country.

Think this a good PR move? Think fans are going to agree?  Hell no

Bingo!!!!

This isn’t about money. The Deegandashian’s have money. They don’t give two shits about their country, the sport, etc.

it’s about finding a new excuse to dodge the Euros.

Counter opinion - I think multi-millionaire riders who’ve made a living from a recreational activity shouldn’t bitch about being not being paid for one race (which is optional anyway).

Well they don’t have to go, it is a choice.

That's not the point....and that doesn't solve the debate on whether all riders should be paid for going regardless of who they are or where they're from...everyone should at a minimum receive a stipend for expenses from the promoter, all manufactures should have a bonus in their contracts for making the team...I have a novel idea how about the money that Infront receives from Monster to sponsor the event gets distributed equally to all the riders that are chosen to race the event...but greed won't allow that to happen...It's funny how NFL players have it in their contracts to be paid a bonus for being chosen for the Pro Bowl (many don't go but still get the bonus) and that's to play a flag football game that means zero...Do you think golfers that play in the Ryder cup do it for free? They get paid $500k. $300k of it goes to a charity of their choosing and $200k of it goes to the golfer the premise is the same as the MXDN pitting nations against each other.....How many golfers do you think would go if they didn't get paid?

“Grow the sport” but the elites of our sport have to pay to race ? Name another professional sport that their athletes do this?

Some don’t understand business is business and think everything is a charity.

Counter opinion - I think multi-millionaire riders who’ve made a living from a recreational activity shouldn’t bitch about being not being paid for one race (which is optional anyway).

To me the principle isn't that pros should be paid for this race, its that the promoter runs it for profit, and participants who drive the profit for that promoter should be a promoter expense.  Pros making millions, or $10, shouldn't be expected to subsidize the promoter's bottom line.  Nor should teams.
