MXGP Rumours/Silly season

So I may have missed it with the Febvre talk of in/out, Jonass going, and Farres potentially in but then not….but where are we at now with KRT for 2027? Surely it doesn’t move to 2xMX2 and 1xMXGP? But needing at least one winner in MXGP, who do Kawi hire?

Who is good enough to lead that team ?

There are 4 guys in the class who are guaranteed winners , Herlings, Coenen, Febvre and Gajser.

With Coenen going, KdW becomes the 4th man, and that leaves KTM and Kawasaki chasing a guy that doesnt exist.

I am not saying you are wrong, by the way, the 250 program hasnt delivered a moto win in as long as i can remember.  I guess since Gajser.

But it has to at some point .

Absolutely agree. You don't turn down HR-fekkin-C contract. Even in MX2. Yes, KTM has suited Mikula on various occassions, Triumph might be on stronger pace now...

Afaik there never was a czech rider in factory HRC team in any motorsport.

If the salary is that low, then I wouldn’t chose for the HRC MX2 spot. I think he’s on better equipment at the moment to be honest.

When HRC come, you cant stay on a private team and miss your window, no matter how well funded they appear.

I am surprised that Lata gets the KTM spot over him , to be honest.

What HRC has done with new 450f I would jump on new 250f they are developing, that bike should be best bikes in MX2 and factory team behind it.

And, you never know, the year you sign for MX2 with HRC, could be the year they get Deadly Serious about the class.

By that I mean that HRC have never really tried that hard to 'go for it' with the MX2 class, since it became , basically, a 250F class. Well, they didn't seem to care about it that much in the later years of 125s.

It's puzzled me for many years now - Honda, no matter what people think, can afford to do Any Bloody Thing they want, any time they decide to.

Lata will be in front of Mikula next year, even if they are both on factory bikes.

Probably right. De Carli have a fantastic trackrecord, Honda MX2 hasn’t done much since Gajsers title 2015.

It’s interesting to see young promising riders get picked up, deliver/ don’t deliver. Mikula is still riding without the pressure of a factory seat. Lata has been given multiple chances but hasn’t delivered. Grau was promoted very young but lost his status as a factory rider, but now he is working himself back in contention.
They can have a long career in MX2 when they start so young. I don’t see a world championship for any of these three but certainly 3rd - 5th riders.

Yes he has, and without 3 no scores in 2025, he would have been closer to Reisulis, and have been second in EMX at least.

But Reisulis, Zanocz and Garcia were the only ones to win races in 2025, you could argue that he should have gone up as well, but maybe Kawasaki wanted to cover off their bases and win 2 championships with BUD, while they had the chance.

Zanocz secong place was as much about consistency as raw speed, and he admits he has found the leap to MX2 bigger than he expected.

I understand the level in MX2 is high and that Zanocz cannot fight the top riders. But Zanocz is battling guys like Collmer, Kees, etc who he was beating massively in EMX250. Imo that isnt because the level in MX2 is that high, but because he is having other issues and is far from his level from last year.

Talk in the paddock about Zanocz is also that he isnt putting in the effort now that he is living by himself. Not saying its true but that could explain his issues.

This is a real possibility, it’s a story that happens over and over. A lot of people need to be pointed in the right direction on a daily basis

Yeah I'm genuinely confused by who they can go for? It's a shame they couldn't get Farres on board. What are the realistic possibilities of two riders for KRT in MXGP? Or even one main guy?

Ruben fernandez is the best free agent out there. Has won motos before in the 450 class. We dont know how good farres will be in the 450 class  and ruben has shown with a good start he can podium. Wont surprise me to see Ruben on a kawi next year.

With Gajser not being happy with Yamaha, how hard is Kawi gonna make a push? I think there is a solid chance he has tried or is gonna try the bike….

Renaux was in the same spot last year, but in the end nothing happened. Gajser will sit out the Yamaha contract most likely.

In my opinion, Gajser would terminate Yamaha contract only for KTM/Husky. And that is just my opinion. He wants to be tittle competitor and with Honda not being his option, Yamaha not performing as he thought it would at the moment, Kawasaki looking to struggle in both MXGP and AMA, the only bike for championship fight for him would be KTM/Husky. Ducati and Triumph are still too young so I don't think that would be an option.

So I would agree with you that Gajser would probably stay with Yamaha.

Gajser will figure it out for the next season with Yamaha. He's had a short winter prep due to contract with Honda, and Honda did not provide him bike for training, unlike Herlings who was riding the KTM till last day of the contract and started next day with Honda. On top of that, Gajser had a lot of bad luck this season. But he's a fighter and will figure it out even with an underdog bike. Just like he did with Honda in MX2 which could not really compare to KTM bikes at that time but he won world championship anyway.

Not too sure about that. He was riding Yamaha since ~November and from what I heard back then, he was ripping. Until first races came... Although we must say that he had been very unlucky this season and pre-season with injuries so that definitely plays role in being comfortable. I do root for him and hope he can figure it out, but many have been struggling on a Yamaha and didn't figured it out.

Almost everyone rips at training, especially during winter. Not too much riders on the track, you can choose your lines freely without someone wanting to take it from you, so the feeling almost automatically is good. There's not much to compare to during those days, so a lot of riders start to think "hey, I'm doing really good!". It tends to change when the races come: you get confronted with the fact that other riders haven't been lacking it either. The same story with Geerts and Beta, everything was great from the first tests until reality checked in during the pre-season races.

There are more riders unhappy then happy with the Kawasaki the past years and that’s the same with the Yamaha riders from the last few years.

I disagree there, Gajser was on a Yamaha way before Herlings was on the Honda so he had a lot more time to prep, let's face it that factory Honda is very good. Gajser did well on it and so is Herlings.

How do you know when Gajser started riding a Yamaha? I agree that HRC bike is the one to beat..

I can say that he was riding since ~November and had a big crash (it was said to be concussion..) before season that sidelined him a little bit. Regardless, as we can see in AMA and in MXGP, Honda currently has the best factory package. I would say KTM is a second best factory team followed by Yamaha and Kawasaki.

I'd say if Gajser can figure out starts, he will figure out the rest as well, but it will be a tough and long winter/pre-season to catch up.

You can't figure out a 450 yamaha, I liked Yamahas, they still have some interesting memory feedbacks from 20 years past when I sit on a new yamaha. Specially the shrouds. Everybody that has ridden a 2000 era yamaha knows how wide those radiator shrouds were and stil are. Aside from that, Febvre in 2015 won a world title with the new yamaha, nd 2025 febvre also won on a bike that is "different".

You should really look for the Gypsy tales episode with febvre, you could understand a lot why Febvre is succsessful on these motorcycles, especially considering that he is also a supermoto world champion and then started motocross. So i think febvre feels comfortable on another types of motorycles - hence he can really capitalise on this Ducati next year. As sooner or later they have to bring over their motogp success. But ducati is fading a bit there also... maybe they have but so much efdoet on the mxgp programme, as has honda done the past let's say 10-15 years.

With Lucas leaving there is no one really in line to seriously challenge Herlings next year the way things look now IMO.  Herlings getting good starts consistently is making it tough for the rest of the guys, and even beyond the starts he has just had a consistent and often substantial speed gap on everyone not named Lucas Coenen.  I expected alot more from Gasjer in particular, but i know team changes are tough.

If he stays on two wheels and is careful he can be a top 5 guy till he is 45 and top 10 guu till his late 50a

Yeah all the second tier guys. But that’s not what he said. He said Kawasaki has been struggling, but yet they won the world championship last year over the ktm, Honda and Yamaha. Obviously the bike is competitive if you are the number one guy on the team

Romain Febvre has never been a Supermoto World Champion, or even close to it.

He raced MX, got hurt, did supermoto for few years , and won the French 125 title , which is basically a kids class in 2007, and went back to MX but never won anything of note, but he has won the Superbiker at Mettet, which is the big end of season race in Belgium twice.

Yes, he is fast on a Supermoto bike, but never won a senior championship.
