It's shocking, but I don't look at Social Scoop as journalism nor do I think of 'insight' that I can put there. It's a bunch of Insta posts.

I'm writing an article where I detail where Justin could go, but it's Ducati, PMG or Kawasaki (if they run three) from my viewpoint.

It's no great secret or big deal. I just, again, don't think it's relevant in a feature that's just embedded Insta posts.

Why not participate in it when you have relevant information? No one is asking you to reveal your sources.

The OP has a valid point.

Easy! Every time I post in the forum, I seem to be hit with negativity. I used to love posting. Now, it makes no sense.

I enjoy your post Lew!

Do you know what Barica was so weird about saying they slid the forks down the the clamps? Does he think Yamaha will hear that and be like Oh! Why didn’t we think of that? Something I just never understood about this sport.

They didn’t tell you the “Motodrive” rules? Thick skin and Nomex undies required. I’ve witnessed DC getting deposited on the curb here, nobody is immune.

Think of it more as, creative criticism.

That’s what the down vote and unsubscribe are for. Turn that shit off if you don’t like it. That’s what I did to certain mj’s who single out and hate on certain fans for having a favorite rider they don’t like.

The only voice they have is the one we give them.

Steve said if the Lawrence brothers are crashing a lot and JT goes on this rant that makes 0 sense. Like dude you were the one who said if Austin Forker doesn’t quit crashing he would get hurt, and he did. Now that the Lawrence brothers are crashing it’s ok?

JT is becoming a pain in the ass to listen to.  He continues to get better on the broadcast, but is a pompous ass on the pods.  His "full stop" BS and know it all persona is getting worse.... and constant references to riding with Ferry and Reed during the week when he was racing, albeit 8 seconds a lap off the pace.  Nobody cares anymore, it was like 30 years ago.

In a thread about moto “journalism”, you use all encompassing language to play the victim and justify yourself.

Then, two comments follow. One from joshd that supports you (completely negating “every time I post, I get hit with negativity”) and asks questions of you.

The other calls you out for playing the victim.

And you chose to respond to the latter. And with this? (Only further proving the moto “journalist” point)

If you are only seeing negativity, maybe check out a mirror mate. Why did you skip joshd’s post?

First off, despite the number of journalism schools willing to take people’s hard earned money, journalism as we boomers used to understand it, has long been dead, killed by consolidation and monopolization by a few mega corporations. The internet once held promise for the supposed “democratization” of the media, but the corporations got that on lock too.

As for our absolutely tiny sport, the “media” has always played a lapdog role to the companies that make the races happen. Anger any of these companies and your access to events and athletes will be denied.

Who’s reporting on the purse payout situation?

Being a journalist for 25 years now, including a few years as a full-time moto journalist, I'd have to agree that mainstream journalism is pretty pathetic right now. Just nakedly biased and ridiculous.

The moto industry can be pretty cut-throat, and I would say that journalism in moto is a special world. You need access and advertisers, and that colors things. That said, there are some great journalists working at RacerX and Vital. The We Went Fast Guy is great and there are a lot of solid podcasters. Maybe I am not as critical since I know what it's like to operate in the journalism world and how much work it can be. But there has always been a web of secrecy among the insiders in MX/SX. And a lot of hyper-sensitive riders and industry people that think journalism is the same as PR and should only reflect good things.

This.

I was able to make a good living for three decades as a "classically trained" journalist.

About half of that within the powersports microsphere.

Now, I'm just an anachronism, feebly shaking my fist against the clouds. Who knew -- or could have known -- when All the President's Men was a major movie, or Lou Grant was a weekly staple on television, that news delivery would devolve into this shit?

The internet, particularly social media algorithms, are 100 per cent to blame. They select for anger and outrage because these increase engagement. Tech companies are a bunch of criminals making money as society tears itself to shreads.

If I was a journalist/content creator/somehow making money off moto, I would not engage in these responses; just post, walk away, and fuckall that may come. Job well done, sir. We’re entertained!

Actually like listening to pulp most of the time but caught that this week as well. “We’ll talk after the show” or “that thing we were talking about”  Definitely gives off almost like giggly high school girl energy when Steve and LP are together. Annoying as it is, it is much more maddening when they just assume because they’re on the inside the rest of us are just stupid.

What would be nice is for American journalists to learn how to pronounce and/or spell European riders' names. Journalism basics surely?

Big Lew don’t lower yourself to battle with these inbreds. You do some of the best reporting in the sport. Like was just mentioned in the Barcia interview.

We made some changes.

What kind of changes

Nervous chuckle, chassis

Ok what kind of chassis stuff?

More nervous trying to avoid it but you got him to detail the changes and even bring up the settings AC222 was running.

You have a good enough understanding of the bikes and teams and what to ask and where to pry.

You got Eli to detail next years plans, his injury more than anyone else got.

The inbreds on here couldn’t close an umbrella, don’t listen to some of them, you’re doing a good job

I’d say. Beats the hell out of the broooooo sickkkkkkk brooooooo and boot licking most of the media gives us.

When the airing of the nationals was all fucked up, the reaction and comments of the "media" tells you all you need to know about the media integrity. Or when the kid claimed Deegan's bike at an amateur national. Or when Millsaps got fired. Or when "Let Broc bye". Or when Emig got fired. Or when RC and Diffey are shitty on a broadcast. It goes on. Many of these people in the "media" know, travel, have meals with, racers, team managers, major sponsors, and the like. For God's sake, Weege and Matthes work for DC. The DC never tells me what or what not to say is bullshit, I am certain there are understood lines NOT to cross. These people do not report on news, they report what they are told to report on, it is simply logical.

I understand Lewis Phillips' frustration with the comments. But I do not understand the reaction, perhaps it is cultural, him being British. Complaints about the performance you are giving are opportunities to improve your performance, they are not complaints against you personally, because obviously these people do not know you. Comments people give may be bullshit but looked at critically they may be a way to hone his craft if looked at insightfully or critically. Unless he feels there is no room for improvement, or that his very audience that listens to him is too ignorant to give input. This is the general vibe you get from all these moto-journalists, from Weege's comments about the audience being to dumb to understand streaming services, to RC and RV spending three quarters of an hour bitching about "keyboard warriors" on Title 24, to Matthes's "bedbugs". These people do not understand many of us are very successful in our own right, businessmen, lawyers, doctors, educators, we are all not unwashed masses hanging for their wisdom.

Which is exactly why these days, I just tune in for the gate drops.

And some of the quali bench racing thread, just to see the lap times.

And less and less, the other stuff.

(Though here I am browsing this thread.🤔)

Shit many of us know more than those people rv,rc, mathes, weege, and more about the bikes.

Even though Steve was a mechanic and the others top pros, when you listen to them talk about the technical side of the bikes, they are very low iq in that area. Rv and rc are particularly bad.

They talk about the fans like we couldn’t know as much about moto, because of how plugged in they are.  They have their areas where they know a lot, sure, but technically, many of them are nobody compared to some on here.

They also are obviously corporate shills in many situations and completely blind and deaf to real issues that they just say is good or fine, instead of calling it what it is, which is trash. Such as rc’s broadcasting, or the production doing segments on mosimans piano and marvs cats during a fucking race. Lolol

Plenty of examples but you made a great point Spoonbro.

Which is why I gave Lew the credit I did, he jumps across the lines constantly, pushes the hard questions, and actually pulls information out of the folks he interviews, including the team management, the riders, etc.

remember all the info he pulled from the kawi team bosses and really it didn’t do them favors but Lew pulled it out, and he knows enough about the bikes and about riding in order to ask the follow up questions , he hears their answers and doesn’t just take their canned deflection PR speak as gospel.

ML does some good work as well on the technical side and team roster changes.

Not sure who else comes to mind but the vital media certainly seems the least corporate PC despite being one of the larger outlets.

I like all the different Pulp pods but I have noticed this a lot lately too. It’s annoying. If they can’t talk about something then don’t bring it up. It’s frustrating for the listener and makes the person withholding the information look like an asshole. I get that everything can’t be shared, just don’t flaunt it like you’re some sort of moto wizard who holds all the secrets.

Jt did this on the review show. I honestly wonder why I even listen anymore. Jt is insufferable with the Lawrence brothers. Steve said if the Lawrence brothers are crashing a lot and JT goes on this rant that makes 0 sense. Like dude you were the one who said if Austin Forker doesn’t quit crashing he would get hurt, and he did. Now that the Lawrence brothers are crashing it’s ok?

Yes
