Febvre has been solid wherever he goes and the experience he brings will be invaluable for Ducati; smart move for both parties imo.
Yep, with that I can see the appeal. Not sure it’s the best move bike wise, but financially got to be the best option at his age. And there is no real evidence the Triumph 450 would have been a lot better anyway. Happy for him, Febvre is a great guy and still top 3 on his good days.
Not good for Calvin, where would he end up is anyone's guess.

Prior to KTM’s financial issues, top MXGP riders enjoyed contracts in the multi-million Euros a year. When KTM fell out of the spending game, other teams agreed to back the numbers down. Hence the moves of a couple of the big guys last year.
What's up with Gaisjer and the Yamaha deal? I have heard lots of rumors of many riders not being happy over there Renaux included.
Yamaha europe is about the same as kawi USA. Needs a major change.
If the $1m/year is accurate, while a good salary, it is less than 'back in the day' salaries.
Brad Lackey wanted $1m/year to ride in 1983 the year after his world championship. He didn't get it. Pierre Karsmakers and I had a conversation about this at one of the Boise RacerX Inter AM events. He said in 1983 the European economy was weak so rides were harder to get. He thought Brad priced himself out of the market.
Note $1m/year in today's money is $3.3m/year.
Brad supposedly did get an off from Cagiva in 1983 for $750,000/year, about $2.5/m year in today money.
So, $1m/year while a lot of money, it shows that today's MXGP riders are probably not being paid anywhere close to the compensation like 'back in the day' racers. The caveat here though for today could be: better bonus structure? Gear money, etc. ? Not sure how 'start money' plays these days, too.
Think Motogp is a whole other story: A genuine championship-level factory rider probably earns:

They won’t tell Rinaldi to kick rocks. The Yamaha MX2 program used to lease engines from STAR and Geerts almost won a couple titles with them, then they brought everything in-house and started having problems. They’re basically how factory Yamaha was before Star took over.

All these figures are just fantasy. I've never seen anyone actually confirm, just 'I heard'. Anyone can make shit up... Motocross (MXGP) cannot pay that much, it's not as big as people think... half full gates tell you things ain't healthy there.
