Not sure why you are getting downvoted when all you did was paraphrase what Jo himself has said many times—he really doesn’t enjoy riding.
He has also said he only continued racing initially because he didn’t want to disappoint his Dad.
These sentiments are straight from Jo’s mouth.

It’s unarguably not a good look for Jo. Better to make those proclamations after retirement. I like Jo, but cringe every time I hear those statements, which he is not bashful about. It’s a weird take from a well-paid professional.

Context matters. He said he loves racing, but riding (practicing) isn't something he gets excited about. These guys ride a ton, its fair to see some burnout from the grind.
If he didn't really love it, he wouldn't have returned after breaking his neck. Just my opinion.
…and he has publicly stated he seriously considered retiring. Entirely understandable, but not what the CEO wants to hear from a high paid public-facing professional. Just my opinion.
I have worked for several Pro's, and they never liked practicing during the week. I guess when you've been on a bike since you were 5 it takes the fun out of it.
I understand many see it as a job and don’t enjoy training. But, a boss doesn’t want to hear that when there is a job to be done. Did your guys go into detail during press/media interviews on multiple occasions? I’ve never heard a top rider say such a thing as frequently and publicly as Jo. He even issued his own press release (without Honda) announcing he is done for the year. Honda cannot walk that back and they have to be a bit peeved.
From the moment it becomes your job, the fun disappears in most cases.

It's not unusual at all.
It's shame he is fairly vocal on that he doesn't enjoy riding. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth. We as fans and I as a rider at least want to pretend/convince ourselves that our riders have the same joy in riding as we do. I've heard it in Jo's interviews a couple of times and that is the least enjoyable part of his interviews.
I don't think this matters but it does. If Jett would publicly say that he would want to retire from racing and focus more on fashion/clothing, it would somehow (at least for me) reduce my support for him.
I have on the contrary become a even bigger Max Verstappen fan after I learned that he enjoys car racing so much that he drives racing sims the same weekend he races real cars... sh*t, apparently he stayed up one night before a racing racing iRacing sim before a real race... It's somehow cool when the racer loves racing... 'we share the same hobby'.
...and yes, I am big Jo fan, but I don't like this part with him.

I remember an article from moto-X about RC from the year 00/01 (german mx magazine, @ matze and Mavetism maybe you know that one too). In the article Carmichael stated that he "hated supercross and he only does it because that's where the money is". That was literally his quote in the article. It was very candid. We also know Stewart hated riding towards the later part of his career. And i do not remember him stating he loves riding. If we think about it: who really states that they love riding their dirtbike and its all they think about? I have not heard that in any interview except Hunter saying the other day, that riding is the happy place for Jett .

So I don't know why this is upsetting. Sure it does not fit in the current narravtive but i applaud Jo for speaking his mind. I am sure we would understand much better if we could speak japanese and understood the cultural background more.
I wonder if the concussion was the more severe injury. It seems strange for an athlete who could potentially make hundreds of thousands winning races this summer to rule himself out for the rest of the series due to a collar bone fracture.
For Joe, it was..
Early in Villopoto's career when he was on 250f's and kicking ass, he was doing some talking with Ralph Sheheen. This was not an interview but rather a visit from both guys just talking before the night of racing of a supercross event. But Villopoto told Ralph that he'd been riding every single day and that he loved riding his dirtbike.
Early in Davi Milsaps career he did an interview with Swap or someone with Transworld MX magazine. In that interview he said he still couldn't believe he had a "career" and was making a living riding a dirt bike, and said he was living the dream.
Although Travis Pastrana didn't continue racing a factory Suzuki on the pro circuit, he said many times how he loved riding his dirt bike over the years.
I'm sure there are 100's more examples of pro riders stating they're living the dream. But no, not all pros are burnt out and tired of gripping a bike with their knees and twisting the throttle.

Professional MX/SX is in no way comparable to what most people do on their motorcycles, in their free time.

I’ve been saying this for the past two years. I got a lot of shit from guys here because I said I didn’t think Jo would ever win a MX title. He had won 6 MX overalls (at the time) since 2019. I don’t understand why people think a guy who had won 6 overalls in the span of 7 years is going to be a legit title contender. I mean, could he win? Yeah, absolutely. But it’s not very often we see someone in the class that long just all of a sudden win the title. It typically comes within the first couple years if it’s gonna happen. Cole Davies for example… wins a SX title in year 2 and is currently winning the MX title. That’s the type of guy who has already proven he can win championships.
You are wrong. Been a fan since PC days. I am also a businessman who has managed multi-million dollar budgets (including paying spokespeople and ambassadors). I do not condone his comments and would sit with him and explain his obligations to the company in order to continue the relationship. A single utterance would not be a problem, except Jo has repeatedly brought this topic up to the point that it is noted. At least one prominent podcast addressed it yesterday—-he issued a pr calling an end to his outdoor season without including Honda. If you are cool with that in your business, then great!
Is this really what you are going to spend your time doing today? Get a grip.
