It looks like I am going to relocate to the Champaign area and was wondering about local tracks. I see tracks around Peoria, Rock Island, Byron and then in the southern part of the state but nothing around Champaign. I don't race or even turn wrenches anymore but would like to spectate, any ideas?

Sunset Ridge (Walnut,IL) BEST track in IL.

Walnut is the best track in Illinois for sure. Its a pretty good drive from Champaign, Theres a track in Casey IL, Called Lincoln Trails, Its under new ownership since I have been there but was always a good place in the past. They have an Area Qualifier there this year, and isnt to far from you. Also, a track in mason, and taylorville, all good tracks.

My parents live about 6 miles from the Mason track. Most of the tracks to your South will have kind of a small region of a draw unless a qualifier is going on. A qualifier at any of them would be good to check out.

you are correct, nothing real close to Champaign. Walnut is the best track in IL imo, they have a youth regional this year and a Pro-Am later, both would be worth your drive up. we live just south of Casey (Lincoln Trail Motorsports) and east of Mason (Crossroads MX) tracks, Casey has been improving and always draws a big crowd on Memorial and Labor Day weekends. I'm not sure if Mason has any "big" races this year. we travel quite a bit, but look for us if you hit any of these #808 in schoolboy classes. and don't forget your only about 4 hours from the best track in the US Reeeeed Buuuuuud!!

I would have to agree with the comments above.. I race mostly in the Midwest and Walnut (Sunset Ridge) is quite possibly the best track I have ever raced at. I love the place!

Walnut is the best track in Illinois for sure. This is going back to the early 90's but I raced there and Kahoka when I lived in Quincy.

Archview is great, but built on flatter ground than Walnut.
I like them both, for sure!

I think there is a track just across the indiana border, pleasure riders, by Danville. Pretty close for you. Motoland is in indiana too (CRAZY artwork with dirt) Red Bud is 4 hours or less, South Fork in Taylorville is probably an hour and a half, Casey (LTM) is not too far south of you... Mt. Carroll should be not too far north of you, and Walnut is the best track in illinois, bar none. Archview is fun and good, it's just flat. As good as a track can be on flat ground.

How do you guys that live in parts of the country that get snow and freezing weather do it? If I go without riding for more than a few weeks I feel like I lose a little stamina and sharpness on the bike, I cant imagine going a whole winter off the bike and having to start over again.

we travel south a lot. bought a van to help on gas cost this year though, haven't had it quite 3 months now and already put right at 10K miles. or you can stud up the pit bike tires and hit the frozen ponds, it's quite the blast really.

BTW, I wouldn't waste your gas going to Pleasure Riders, just a big fair track and has really went downhill in the past couple of years, just my .02 though. Southfork used to have decent turnouts, but we haven't been back since last time we went there because of low turnout and track was really short and didn't have much to separate the riders. just holeshot and pin it IMHO

Save up for a trip or two to someplace you can ride, man up and ride through some snow, and riding in your head. I swear it works if you really vividly imagine riding, helps keep your speed where you left off at.

And commenting on more tracks, I've personally been to south fork, galesburg, casey, crossroads, and walnut. I need to get around more. South Fork is my local track, it's fairly easy and beginner safe and the dirt works up deep on raceday, they offer good money for A class so there is usually a good turnout in the A class, at one race last year there were about 20 A riders and about 10-15 held or formerly had pro cards. Not much to seperate the fast guys apart so there is close racing. Top notch facility, several air conditioned buildings with a full grill and even a place to sit on a couch and watch TV. Casey can sometimes draw a good crowd, used to be a top notch track known around the country in the day, but the dirt is going away. It's hit or miss if theres a good crowd or a good track. I've only been to crossroads a few times because the dirt dried out so fast you couldn't see by the 4th moto. I've been told its gotten better. I've been to Galesburg once 6 years ago, kind of a cool track, just not very wide and they didn't have the proper equipment to maintain the track.

there are a ton of things that have changed at the tracks in just that last half of last year.

anyway there is good spectating at all those tracks on the d-17 list. if you have any questions or thoughts xnational send me an email it's on that d-17 district site also.

d-17 tracks are some of the best ran, most consistant tracks I know of. LOL yes i am biased.

Salem Illinois, SCMX, is one of the best spectator tracks in the midwest. It is an easy drive from Champaign as it is located just a few mile off of Interstate 57. The District 18 races have a good turnout there.

Archview is a great facility. The dirt is top notch, awesome mix with sand in it. The track lacks the natural hills but has great jumps that are safe. Spectator triple is about 75ft and safe as well as the back triple at right around 115ft and safe. It gets rough as hell and the track crew do an amazing job. They always draw huge turnouts with fast A riders and are branching out with the Blue Grass series as well as a few extra things up there sleeves this year. It is located 15 minutes outside of St. Louis.

Give Jeremy a call at the MX-Tech main shop. 815-936-6277. He knows all the best tracks...... and more importantly, the spots that thaw out first. He has small great sand tracks around him. He is in Bourbonnais, about 100 miles north of you. Guarantee he is the first one riding once snow is gone.

I hope this move is going to make you alot of money, otherwise why the hell would anyone want to move here. The state is broke, billions in debt, unemployment is high, they just raised the income tax, you cant ride all year without traveling south......

As far as the tracks, I agree Walnut is the best after that Lincoln Trail may be your next best bet for spectating.

Hell, I'm normally so beat up by the end of the season it's nice to have a few months to heal! lol When I was younger a few months off the bike would have me so fired up to ride that it almost did some good.

I was at casey's last race and wasn't impressed with the new layout, took all the flow out of the track in my opinion. the design was best back in 06-07 i think. Bring back the finish line whoops! And every time i have ridden at crossroads I've loved the layout, just can't stand how fast the dirt turns to marbles. I'm understandably dying to completely re-design south fork as well.

I grew up racing Kahoka as well, that place was awsome to. I hear its a lake now, not sure how true it is. I have some buddies i ride with quite a bit that live in Quincy, The Merrill bros. They have a few good practice track close to them, and theres quite a few practice tracks in my area "peroia" that are good. I just noticed your link for Motohose, I was just checking thier website, I am thinking on some Yellow hoses for my honda..

I moved there to work at Mid West Performance & Power and was hired away by the owner of TNT.....after a last turn/finish line altercation with him in my very 1st race at Kahoka. Smile We both went to Lorettas that year.

Gas is higher than balls on a Girraffe, State troopers are sneaky and everywhere, speed limit is still 65, but I love it there.
