The Supreme court just reaffirmed the 150+ year constitutional right of if you are born in the USA you are a USA citizen even if parents are not citizens.

We'r  fucked as a country this is going to have sever consequences beyond what most of you can imagine.

But again whos shocked that roberts and the chick with adopted kids from another country thought its ok for illegals to come here and have an anchor baby and people who can fly in have a kid and just stay is ok.

This fucked us so bad so fucking bad its not even funny.

Once again common sense, flys out the window and America continues to be exploited.

Really unfortunate. Most people know what's happening today is not what the amendment intended. At least we can stop hearing "Trump's Supreme Court" now.

Time to step up ICE operations massively and reconsider what we want to allow via legal immigration. If they aren't in the country, they can't have the children.

Why haven't the repercussions already hit us? It's been the law for 150 years.

Many like myself would counter otherwise.

We have the most generous immigration system in the world yet many exploit it anyway. .

I cant think of any other nations that allow people to game their immigration system by coming here "illegally" and using birth right system like we allow it.

My family tree came here legally from France and Germany so whats so hard about demanding that people do it the right and legal way?

Respectfully disagree on this one.

I've personally watched Hispanics in a work crew after Katrina smuggle in their 8 month pregnant wives  just to give birth and access all the benefits and start chain migration instead of coming here legally.

IMO this is not what the framers imagined or would approve of.

Whats confusing  about the cottage industry in California that caters to Chinese tourist's that come here to give birth and go back with citizenship?

Its exploitation of our system and should be fixed one way or another.

You are fucking clueless about the real system.

To do it the “legal way” requires you to come here rich to pay lawyers every month for 20 years to do it. Just when you think your close they change the laws so its all the way back to the beginning again in the process. And the system looses the paperwork all the time so its all the way back to the begging.

Thats why they do it the “illegal way”

Actually I am  not sweet cheeks  but thanks for playing.

Have had family members do it the right way and while I will agree with you that it is expensive and could use an over haul you sir are apparently OK with doing things illegaly l because the legal way is hard....

On those grounds my good man I will say that you sir are clueless.

edit*

If you want to have a conversation about the need for a more streamlined and less expensive immigration system we  can do that and I'll probably agree with most of what you propose.

Saying its ok to do things illegally because legal is hard is an immature argument to make.

For example if i say its hard to afford a really nice diesel pusher motor home so its ok to steal yours would you be ok with that?

See how silly that is??

I tend to agree that the constitution got it wrong.  The way to correct it is to change it by statute or by amendment. I don't want any President to have the power to change the constitution at will. You may wish Trump was allowed to do this but in 12 years when AOC is President, you won't be so happy that she has this kind of power.

Ironically for some people, this whole deal is a consequence of having a country that's a constitutional Republic and the way to change it is through democracy.

The anchor baby thing needs to be abolished as it promotes illegal immigration for sure, but this country needs illegal immigration to keep feeding the monkey, so yeah, it's not going away anytime soon. The powers that be just use it as a hockey puck to keep people angry at the thought that it's ruining the country.

On that note, chain migration is just as fucked, but that only applies to the unwashed masses, if you're the President or very wealthy, it's just doing what's right for your family.

Yeah, it is indeed a law.

It is indeed in our constitution.

And yeah, it has been perverted by people coming across our southern border just to give birth, and recently being flown in from other countries for the same. (Birthright tourism 😤 wasn't foreseen back then)

The court, unfortunately, ruled according to the law.

It's going to take a constitutional amendment to change things properly.

Do you know when they came here? My family came from Italy in 1891 and immigration was a joke. You just needed a little cash, an address to go, not be obviously sick to avoid quarantine, and be willing to declare that you're not a polygamist or anarchist. Then you just live and work for ten years and apply for citizenship. But, you basically just showed up. Today is very different and I'd look to other countries in europe before here. Its much easier in other countries to get a visa quickly and get the residency clock started, all legally.

Yes Lumpy you are making my point with every post you make so thank you sir.

The system is being exploited on every level from asylum seekers, birth right tourist, visa over stays etcetera.

Time for a recalibration of policy the tax payers have had enough of this.

Yet we still welcome legal seekers all day every day and twice on Sunday.

Not sure how long ago all of that migration took place, but if it was during the peak of European migration, they most likely just showed up at Ellis Island, answered a few basic questions about their health, had their names horribly mangled and misspelled, and all was good.

Today is far more difficult, and the biggest issue that began in Trump’s first term was his trying to take away the ‘right way’.

Time to step up ICE operations massively and reconsider what we want to allow via legal immigration. If they aren't in the country, they can't have the children.

Why not change the amendment?

And, as for my South American family members? Nothing to see there right? They sold everything. Started from scratch and, a few years later my uncles dad started a pressure washing business washing semis at truck stops.

My uncle enlisted in the Navy. Then got his citizenship.
Maybe have something to offer. If not, your service.

Edit: I’m also a fourth generation plumber.
My great grandfathers Stilson on the bottom. My grandfathers Rigid on top. Once again, have something to offer.

Just line the 2nd Amendment. What was created to protect the lives and liberty of citizens has been abused to such a degree that it’s one of the biggest threats to citizens’ lives. Gun manufacturing became unlimited and protected by 2A. Just as the nation’s founders could not have predicted the impact of mass immigration, nor could they predict such violent weaponry in the hands of untrained people. But sure, believe birth rights are a greater threat.
