Ur a big fella. 125s are for kids (or grown men the size of children).

Get a 450. You’ll grow into it.

125 worst bike possible for your size- only advantage to a 125 is easy to put on a stand..

I started riding Moto at age 27. I was a bigger guy when I started at 6ft 200 and everyone told me to get a 450. When I went down to a 250, my progress skyrocketed because i learned HOW to ride. I think the biggest thing I can say after some years now, (im 41) is my turns improved sooo much in carrying speed into the turn rather than trying to point and shoot. I was also less scared which I think mentally helped haha. Since then the 350's are awesome.

Now that you are in, dont stress too much. Its one of those habits where you will own a number of bikes over the years haha.

This, all day. It’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow. Starting on a bike that has more power than you’re ready to deal with means riding intimidated and slow. That or you’re constantly wadding yourself up. Wringing the neck of an underpowered bike makes you feel like a hero that can handle anything it might throw at you. Builds the confidence that will help you move up to bigger and faster bikes.

I went with the KLX 300. I appreciate all the insight. I’ve had it for a day and love it so far. Already addicted. It’s definitely forgiving. I will probably get a track bike down the line but looking for to cruising backroads and trails!

Thanks again!

Excellent choice. Firmer suspension (springs) and stronger handlebars (the stock bars will bend if you look at them wrong) and better foot-pegs would be my initial upgrades.

Enjoy your new scooter!

ANyone who thinks a 125 MX bike is suitable for a  6 foot 3, 220 pound guy BEGINNER - has lost their fricking mind.

250f all day, or the 300 he mentions.

I just listed my KTM 150SX for sale on marketplace. It is fully restored. I am 210lbs with gear and the suspension has been resprung and revalved for your weight already. If interested ,let me know. i am about 4 hours from Myrtle Beach but i would be willing to meet you in Newberry Sc as i have a house there as well. A 125 is going to be too small for you. Just not quite enough power for your size.

does Beta even import the 200 X-Trainer to USA? Back in late 2021 I started looking hard at X-Trainer to replace my 2003 KDX220R. I considered all 3 sizes 200, 250, 300 and decided the 250 was best fit for me. When I went to find 1, I was told only 300 is imported here. A poster here is a Beta dealer and confirmed only 300. Maybe that's changed?

$5600 before tax. They also tried adding a $650 freight fee but were nice enough to remove it when I asked lol.

This bike looks like so much fun. Keep up on maintenance (clean the air filter if you can see dirt on it, keep the air filter oiled, change the motor oil per the manual, and keep bearings greased) and this thing will last many many years.

I want to start riding. I’ve been told a yz125 is a good bike to learn on due to it teaching you good habits. I’m also interested in KLX 300 for the more forgiving 4 stroke and the option to ride on roads. Any words of wisdom out there.

Thanks!

R u trying to ride moto or offroad/trails? Don’t get a klx if ur riding moto. And as a guy with a 450 and a 125 don’t get a 125. Prob get a 250F, 350 or 450 that you can detune. A 450 with a smoothed out mellow map is eo easy to ride compared to a 125. You can’t really cruise on a 125, you have to stay on the pipe and rev it out + a lot of shifting just to barely clear every shift. A good 250 4 stroke is a much better bike to learn on for your size and weight than a 125, a lot more power that’s easier to use.

Only 250 and 300 to choose from in the xtrainer lineup. Also a low boy version in the 300. Not sure about the 250

With the sand you will be learning in at least a 250 in either 2 or 4 stroke to start out.

How quickly do you plan on making an upgrade?

good info. never heard of the low boy version is it a bolt on kit? I know they used to offer a lower seat but can't find that in online catalogue. I seem to be shrinking a little every year and now could use a little lower height to get on/off easier.
