So I got a 70s question. Didn't they have double headers in sx back then? Or did that only happen in the 80s? And if they did have double headers, they had them because of all the people buying tickets right?? What I'm getting at here is they seemed to have so many more people watching sx in person back then compared to today. Would that be a correct statement or not?

I hate getting old but I'm very thankful to have been a teenager in the 70s. Started racing MX in 72. Had a 1969 Camaro in HS with an Sanyo 8 Track player (had a case in the back seat with 24 8 tracks). You could ride in any open field and nobody complained. And there were a lot of dirt bikes in the 70s. No internet, no social media. Just riding dirt bikes, hanging out with friends and listening to rock. Life was good.

Yep, I agree 100% mumbles. The 70's was awesome to be a teenager and especially with the explosion of Dirt Bikes and Motocross!

Would not change it for anything. Although I wish I could find that time machine Mr Wizard... 😬

75 RM125.    Across the street from my childhood home, what was left of G hill after they put the #2 Glendale freeway through it. 😬

The tree in the background use to be our treehouse, the whole mountain connected with awesome trails, tracks and tree forts till they dynamited it through.

Yep they really can move mountains.

70s for MX was the time to be a kid, I was lucky my dad got tired of watching me race and got a bike for himself. We would race three times a week. Bike, parts, entry fees were relativel inexpensive, It really was the golden era of USA MX.

They had double headers for a multitude of reasons.  Yes, they filled the stands.  Mainly it helped fill the promoter's pockets because you could have a 12 race series and only have to build 7 or 8 tracks.  Not having to deal with so many locations cut down expenses.  And it kept the series in a shorter time span so it started later in the year after the Florida Winter Series or the Golden State series so the riders had time to get in shape and sort out the bikes.  It also didn't run into the Outdoors which at the time was still the premier National series...but had to end in August so the TransAMA could get started in mid-September when the Euros got here.

Wow…      Impressive stats Dave, getting an invitation to North vs South was amazing !  I wish there was High School MX in my town as a kid, but Massachusetts was not the place. Very nice pictures, and great backstory .

we had to build our own bmx bikes. Stingray frames were the strongest. We quickly found the weak parts. Handle bars, Forks, necks, cranks, and wheels all had to be upgraded

Any of you ever have or ride the Yamaha bmx bike with full suspension? Thing was cool as hell until you had to pedal up a slight incline.
