I had not been to a race or gotten to shoot one since 2019 because of health limitations, but the convergence of a bit cooler day, the fresh rings the docs gave the top end last year, and literally a Friday last minute hook up by Davey I was able to get out to Hangtown. It was so awesome to shoot again, rusty as I was.
For all the bitching about parking and cost, etc, there's nothing like race day at the track. There's only so many pro races a year, and only so many years in your life - grab those opportunities when you can if you really love this sport.
This may very well have been my last one - 69 in the fall and the top end is not so fresh anymore. The day worked me, but I'm glad I made it happen.
Really rusty, probably had not picked up the camera for a a year or two for any reason. Got some technically good shots (Hangtown's not really a track with great backgrounds) but nothing really super exceptional.
Very cool to see the new generation. Like him or not, Haiden's exceptional, anyone who loves this sport should be happy any time he's at the gate even if you (like me) don't dig the heel schtick. Jett's an revelation to see in person.

I’m glad you were able to get out there. I couldn’t agree more about getting out to a race. If you can, do it. I saw Jett on a 450 back in ‘23 at MXdN. After that, I knew he was something special.
Nice pics!
Live your life to the fullest while you can. You are an inspiration for many of us and I'm happy that you got out there.
Edit ' Awesome pictures.
Glad you were able to get out, and 100% agree with your observations. The first time I saw Jett ride in person was Ironman, the first year he rode 250 outdoors. I came home and told her about this new rider who I told her would be the "new Marty Smith." Little did I realize what the future held.
I second your recommendation for folks to get to a race this summer. Seeing what these newer generation riders can do on an MX bike is just mind-blowing, but especially Jett.
Great shots Mike! It doesn't look like you were rusty at all.

Happy to hear you were hooked up for a day at the races, FTE. Life is precious, gotta make the most of it. I dragged my old carcass out to Budds Creek last year because I wanted to see the phenom(s) in person, and I wasn’t disappointed. Jett rides like no one else, and the way Haiden electrifies his fanbase is unmatched. “Life’s rich pageant.”
Awesome FTE I'm glad you got out there and I hope you get to shoot 20 more.
Good job!, old boy.
Nice pics. Glad you had a great time.
thats really cool. great photos, especially the jett one.
could you ask davey to do something about the ezup situation for the rest of us that are afraid to venture back out? plz and ty
That's awesome FTE. What did TFS say? Signage and spectators, something like that? Oh, and no strobes 😀
So Davey isn't as bad as he's made out to be?
Hells yes, FTE👍👍👍
That Jett shot is🔥🔥🔥
Thanks folks. Moto is good.
Tom, that's kind. It took a while to remember what all the buttons were on the rig. 😂
A few more to close out the weekend.
"Spectators and signage" is what TFS passed on from Rita Coombs.
Awesome shots FTE!
Okay. The Jett “floater” shot says it all.

Looking at FTE photos on Monday morning after a National.
It brings back memories.
Great stuff Michael.
You haven't lost your touch.
Excellent pics ! Glad you were able to get out there and have a great time. Going to sx last few years has been fun but nothing compares to the sights, sounds and smells of being ground level at a mx national. When someone comes by at Mach speed or when u can feel how hard these guys rail a berm or land and your 20ft away and you can feel the ground shake. There's nothing like the great outdoors
Great shots. Nice work. 👌
