With the start of what will be another epic outdoor season, I stumbled upon this pretty cool bio on the Man himself that I had never seen including his Parents.
There are some clips from Saddleback that are familiar and it shows Adolf Weil grabbing a handful and looping out on his works Maico! 😳
The influence Roger had on guys like me in the 70's--truly set the obsession of motorcycles in my life and I am ever so thankful of that. I cannot imagine how different and boring it would have been without Motorcycles. 😂
There will never be another one like him.

Agree - I wanted an RM 370 so bad my ears bled.
Still do
My older cousin raced one at Carlsbad back in the 70's, he was 12 years older than me. Actual leather leathers and all
My buddy raced a 125 at Carlsbad on this particular day. Apparently not enough 125s that day so he raced in the 250 class.
First race he ever won. Someone protested he was only on a 125 and they took his trophy away.
TM
We saw so many "Legends" that we all looked up to in the 70's. Roger, Brad, Bengt, Ake, Heikki, Gerrit, Willy...........the list goes on, but, Roger was and always will be "The Man". Thanks for sharing Gary

Husky Ed, Love your profile pic. That image of Gerrit Wolsink at Carlsbad crashing at the end to beat Heikki Mikkola, I'll never forget it. What a great era for motocross.
Thanks for posting this. Brought back a lot of memories of a bygone time when MX was really in its infancy in the US. Due in large part to RD, it exploded in the 70s and 80s. Little did we think back then that MX (and later SX) would be televised and draw 50,000+ fans to professional sports stadiums in big cities.
Watching this speaks volumes when RD says " he just needs to ride the bike. It will never be perfect, he needs to just put his nose down and ride".
You're welcome Ed. 😎
He was protested for being underpowered? That's definitely a new one.
My team and i assembled the NorCal MX Reunion the past couple of years benefitting Road to Recovery and got to talk with "The Man" about attending our event. The last years event we spoke several times and he was pumped about attending as we had several people committed re attending that Roger called friends, Dave Arnold, Steve Simons are just a couple. The MX Des Nations was the week before our event and I had several friends attending that saw Roger at that event and said he looked like he was in a fair amount of pain with his back. He called before the weekend and said that his back was going to make it unable for him to attend, we were all bummed but respected his decision. Our next event will be in 2027 and he said he would do his best to attend and we look forward to seeing him there, nothing but respect for "The Man"!!
Thanks for posting. FWIW: The single person that downvoted this should be banned from all moto forums forever.
He will always be my hero.
Wait, what?! Someone protested him for being on an underpowered 125? 😂 😂 How embarrassing for that dude who protested. You lost to a 125 and you cried about it
Beginning their journey in SoCal, as did their countryman Roger DeCoster is classic. Once the mecca of USA moto with tracks like Carlsbad, Saddleback, Racing World, DeAnza, Indian Dunes, Rawhide. And, so many night tracks like Ascot, OCIR, Irwindale, 117, Corona.
Roger helped build Saddleback Park and would practice there regularly. Many picture and videos of him are all over the web. Trans-Am, USGP races are epic races to sample. Sadly, most of those tracks are now but part of the concrete jungle.
It is yet another exciting weekend of Racing! Especially when Lucas lines up with Roger's #104 to represent over 50 years of respect for, The Man.
I have run #104 on my bikes from 1977 to present because of DeCoster.
Yes! They did it, exactly what I was hoping for!
Pit Row
Wow. Super cool. Also happy that redbull can put their branding aside for something cool like this.
Awesome pictures guys, thanks!
And to you, mumbles, I thought I was a DeCoster, Suzuki freak, but you are definitely the King! 🤴
One day I'll have to put up the video interview I did with Roger and Hannah trackside at Budds Creek. It's a classic! 😎
😎 Roger seems very proud of his fellow Countryman. Without looking it up, I thought the CoEnen are twins. How is one so much taller than the other? 😲
Either way, I know they are fast as heck. Have you guys seen the videos of the one battling Herlings WFO! Wow
Lucas’ number is pretty obvious, but does anyone know if there’s significance to Sacha choosing 109?
Ha just came here to ask the same.
I don't think there's any significance other than his GP number is 19, so it's just the addition of the zero in the middle I assume.
Sacha likes a good hot sauce?
Me at 16 years old. I was obviously a huge DeCoster fan. LOL
