I am a youngin' but seeing adverts on jawa and barum (two czech/czechoslovakian brands) in american mag is mental... especially in 1969, because at that year it was already year or so after the invasion of soviet block armies in czechoslovakia due to us being too liberal/west-leaning at that time... i imagine it might have been a bit complicated to import those goods in us at that time.

Regarding that Zebra Rupert...have you found out where it came from or where it went?

No doubt , reminiscent of the Zanesville wild animal fiasco a few years back.

Oh..nice back in the day program too!

I don’t think so, a friend had offered that he thought it south of CMH…. I’m guessing in the suburbs somewhere…. Someone will tell us, the whole idea of an American series in 1969, the riders, the locales, the spectators ….is both fascinating and intriguing….

Some conflicting info was found, some saying that there was a “Columbus, Ohio” track and some saying the 1969 Inter-Am event was actually in Larue- near Marion, Ohio, which would make sense because the gentleman I purchased the program from, resides in Marion….Looks like this was the Edison Dye series, with the AMA series commencing in 1970…..

Prefecto Rupert.  This was the year of my introduction to those pesky "You'll ruin your life" dirt scooters.  I've not been the same since.  Thankfully.

I was living in Wichita, KS on the date of the race listed in your brochure.  Never heard about it then.  No idea what track or where the race was held.  I'd be interested if anyone knows.

Love that 125 Maico in the 1st pic.  I would have killed for one of those in the early ’70’s as a teenager.   Nice!

Unsure, but Pepperell was the first race I attended. 1972. Bultacos, CZ’s, Maicos- shit like that

I was at a Pepperell event in a knapsack on dads' back but am not aware what year it was. I was born in Sept. of 1969 so it had to be after 1969. That day is probably my oldest memory, blue sky, green grass and lots of excitement. Mom tells me some swede won and wheelied the finish line.

My 1957 Maico 250 is one of my favorite vintage bikes, and practically cheating against BSA C15s, Matchless G2, etc. in the Premier Lightweight class.

I've watched so many tracks open and close in this area.  Bart had a pretty gnarly track out by Kingman.  Insane jumps...I ain't kidding fellas.

Half the weight of a thumper makes hero's. 🙃

Wait...was that a thumper?

2-stroke. Iron barrel on the same lower end as the square barrel bikes. Same forks as the early 1970's bikes. Weighs about 220 pounds.

What happened to it? I’m guessing it’s either overpriced high rise apartments or solar panel farms now knowing this state.

I raced Sprockets a couple of times in 1984, it was southeast of Wichita.  I'm sure if you google it, you would be able find out exactly where it was.  I had heard it closed in the late 80's or early 90's.

A little history on Gene Engberg, the only Kansan listed in the magazine.  He was sentenced to prison in 2017 for sex crimes on a minor, he lived in Salina.
