Hunter took the loss with head held high and stood through all those celebrations without letting it obviously get to him. It probably helped that he had the last 10 minutes of the race to think things over. He took the loss like a man, and I wonder if he was standing through that celebration using it to add fuel to the fire for next year.

Hunter doing that was 100x more badass and took 100x more nuts than it will ever be dunking on ppl on social media or telling everyone to s your d. Handled that situation like a standup dude with his head held high.

Yesterday was such a weird day; I’ve always been a Roczen fan, but thought his ship had sailed and we had to be happy with his momentary flashes of brilliance.
Meanwhile Hunter has been my favourite rider since he won as a nobody at MXdN in 2017.

Kenny winning was a fairytale and I was so stoked for the guy, at the same time being gutted for Hunter. I didn’t know whether to skull my beer or cry into it 😂

This sport sure does produce some monumental storylines.

Not bad for his first complete SX season either

To go from not even qualifying for his first 450 SX main to losing the championship by 3 points the following year is a massive step up. There's no doubt in my mind Hunter will be hoisting the SX trophy himself within the next few years (hopefully more than once).

Why would you question lifelong efforts? Racing moto has been his entire identity since he could twist a grip. Started racing in Australia, then in Europe and now the US. Has he put his efforts somewhere else besides racing that makes you say that? I'm confused.

EDIT: he changed his comment and deleted the others lol

I deleted those not to argue. I recognized that I appreciated a lot of things about Hunter - his work ethic, his character, and his example which should be followed by other riders. I was gonna let it go, since you were so easily offended and I didn’t want to argue. But you need some kind of validation. So what did I miss?

I think you missed a glass of water and your bed time.

Too many good comments to up vote them all. So this comment takes the place of all the comments that deserve up votes. Hunters a champ in my book. Super happy for Kenny but Hunter is a class act too. This won't be his last opportunity.

Exactly.  The loudest guy in the room  is the weakest guy in the room.

Dangerbaby's antics are evidence of his insecurity.

I saw this yesterday and forgot to share it, credit to whoever recorded that cool moment. Hunter is some absolute class act, takes a lot to take your ego away and do this and then also stay there to watch the whole celebration, I don't know if I could have done the same. Definitely rooting for him in MX.

You can’t fake class. Win or lose, Hunter’s parents should be very proud, that’s a quality human they produced.

Hunter is a great racer, good person and has all my respect. Yet he must realize being 31 points up on Kenny at one time and three untimely wrecks cost him this championship. He could have locked it up in Detroit maybe. This was his to lose at one time, dare I say he choked? I hope he lives and learns and it works out better for him next chance, and he will have more chances. Several championships are in his future, perhaps even this summer.

Was rooting for Kenny all the way but Hunter gained me as a new fan this weekend.  More so for his actions in the 10 minutes following the race.  Class act.  Rooting for him in MX.

The change in momentum occurred with his crash in the whoops at Detroit. He wasn't choking then, he was charging.

Then mud at two races introduced the unknown factors.

Still, I can't think of anyone who could have handled this loss with as much class as Hunter did.

You never know when these guys decide to hang it up.  I was on the belief if Hunter won, he would retire soon.  People forget how long Hunter has been grinding and he retired twice before.  He’s older than Chase Sexton.  The dude is closing in on 30 years old in a few years, and has nothing but savages coming for him (Jett, Deegan, Prado, Davies, etc)

Hunter definitely blew it.  But I don’t think he choked under pressure.  Coming into Denver he HAD TO WIN, and he was so calm. Then he goes out and dominates.  Most people really thought Kenny would “blow it” this weekend being at elevation on a 2018 model bike.  But hot dayum Kickstart Kenny got er’ done!  .

Will Hunter leave Honda? He's proven he's worthy of a number 1 ride and number 1 money.

Good question, really is. Perhaps he should?

I'm super happy for Kenny...but I wouldn't have been destroyed if Hunter had taken the title. Both guys are classy IMO, and I was impressed by the way Hunter congratulated Roczen after the win.

It’s easy to demean Hunter and say he choked because he crashed. He and Kenny had no margin. No races after this, no “I’ll get him next time”. Kenny crashed in his heat. Hunter crashed in the main overjumping into a corner, tucking the front, riding on the edge. Nobody else on that track was at 110% like they were. They had to be at 110% because the other would be.  No choke, crashing was a likely consequence of what both had to do. I believe that if Hunter had caught Kenny, Kenny would have gone faster until he crashed or Hunter did.

Funny that just a decade ago 26yo was called being near the end of a racing career. Now 26 is the new 20.

Hunter will get another shot within the next 6 years. incredible human and incredible racer.
