Dunlop MC790 Prototype Tire

I wonder if they will call it the MX24? Looks more production than prototype to me.

Looks like it would be good on tracks that start deep-tilled and wet, but finish baked out and blue grooved. Budds Creek comes to mind.

AT82 Enduro tire is the preferred choice for some SX/SMX races, over their full range of SX/MX specific tires and special factory SX tires.
The soft terrain tire works better on hardpack than their hard terrain tire.

The tires work good, but what the heck is going on between the R&D and Marketing teams?
 

At this point I like the 3s front better than the 33 and the 33 front better than the 34. They are going in the wrong direction on the fronts although I hear the AT82 front is good. I have heard mixed reviews on the AT82 rear. If you look at pit bits there is a mix of MX3s, AT82, MX33, and MX34 fronts being used in SX. The top GNCC guys were still using the AT81 rear over the AT82 if they can get them.

Count me as a fan of the AT82. I’ve been using the 82 rear for a bit and recently installed the 82 front. I have been trying a number of tires 14, 33 front and rear, 34 front and rear, 3S, Pirellis MX32 front and rear (old and new), and Bridgestone X20 front. So far the 82 rear is my preferred for a range of conditions. The MX14 is great when soft but I find it a little skatey on hard, wet corners. The 82 and 3S front seem very close to me, and currently what I prefer. 

I haven't seen one IRL, but according to ML on the Pulpshow, it's a directional tire that was accidentally installed in the wrong direction.  

Looking at the tread you can see it's not symmetrical.

the AT-81 RC (re-enforced carcass) was the best rear tire Ive ever rode. Its a shame dunlop did away with it. The 3S is still my choice up front as well. The 33 and 34 fade and push, and I never liked the initial bite entering a corner. the 3s just feels more stable and doesnt walk around. The AT82 front is also a solid tire. Really makes you think what dunlop considers when testing and designing.

Looks interesting to me, and ill likely try one. Im a fan of the 34 race spec versions. Tried front and rear 82s and it just wasnt for me. Didn't feel as connected as I like. The rear did have excellent straight line traction in early morning soft dirt but I lost the feel I like as things dried out. The 34 is just versatile to me and it looks like this new tire could be too. 

Bring back the 490 front please.

Just to split a hair a little....  there is no such tire called the 34 race spec (not available to the public anyway).   There is the Geomax MX34 and the Geomax Factory Spec.   Although the Factory Spec loosely resembles the MX34, they are actually totally distinct tires that use their own tread patterns (even have different tread codes on the labels).   The Factory Spec actually looks very similar to the pics of the new MX54 coming, as if they may use the same tread pattern.  The product info for the MX54 that was released to dealers makes it sound like it is pretty similar to the Factory Spec tire.

Idk, those and the 739 front were my nemesis back when. Ick. I ride on rocks and gravel though. Fwiw. The 756 was like a godsend after multiple 490 and 739s. Those things used to put me on my head by surprise. The 756 was predictable, and would recover well after a push. The newer mx32, mx3s, shed side knobs fast but work well. I liked the one mx34 I had but sold the bike so idk about longevity I only rode it 3x. It definitely had grip leaned over, over gravely hard pack.
