He’s been right before, but once again, he is not batting anywhere near 100%. He makes a video just about everyday, mostly filled with speculation or his own opinions, and is obviously fed some information from people in the industry. I sure do hope he is making contact with the ball a few times a year if he’s being pitched at nearly 365 times.

If you’re a fan of the sport we heard conversations of this exact scenario happening as soon as the KTM financial troubles became public some time ago. It’s not like this is some thing he just blew the lid off and nobody knew about, good on him for getting the timing right and being the first to mention it though. I had kinda wondered where the financials were at since Bajaj got involved

I said it in another comment probably about a year ago on here about him, but his style of reporting is exactly the reason the world is the way it is nowadays. Nobody cares about reporting what’s right or factual, just as long as they’re the first ones to get it out. He’s not the only one guilty of it, but he’s probably the most popular of them all in the MX world.

Besides all that, it’s pretty easy to not like the guy. Being Mirtl’s mouthpiece when he was under heat, multiple claims of riders using PEDs with no legitimate evidence, the childish vendettas against the Coombs Family and Matthes, especially when he was on Steve’s show years ago just gargling Steve like he was the coolest person in the world.

It’s gonna be okay, man, relax. Cooksey was on target. He broke the scoop when others were running cover.

If ML knew something beforehand and said there was nothing to this breaking rumor of a story Cookie put out, then why say anything?

A lot of points being made that I agree with. But it doesn't change the simple point that I made.

You can tell when something is brought up that could be legitimate vs just content that is dirt on someone or round-about personal attack. I know he does that a lot and I don't like it or agree with a lot of it (his content on RC, Davey etc). But I watched the Husky video and based on circumstances and what he said, it sounded possibly legit. So I was at least willing to think there is maybe something to it and figured we will see what happens. And ML is probably my go-to source for info. I thought his initial reply was rather silly and made no sense, which is why I questioned it. Thinking for yourself and putting your emotions for someone aside and just taking the info for what it is. But I am just pointing out that a lot of people don't do that and just get triggered because of some of Cooksey's other off the wall content. And him rushing to be the first is how he gets the scoop some time. Not saying it's right, but when what he is saying makes sense, based on what we do know - like the KTM/Hus $ issues, then I just don't see why it's such a big deal to at least note it as possible.

Makes one wonder how regular or on time Eli got his bonus checks from his early season wins, it would make his later lack of results poignant.

Even a moderately good manager would make sure that money is contractually locked up in an escrow account long before signing on the dotted line.

No. Cooksey just puts things out there before he's supposed to. Real journalists wait until the PR is ready and things are confirmed.  Cooksey shoots his mouth of constantly hoping something sticks and if he's wrong, "oh well that's just Cooksey".

You can tell when these guys (Cooksey, Johnny Hopper, YouTube Ai, etc) are exaggerating stuff. There’s no mystery there.

I take ML’s word that KTM/ Husky just sprung it on everyone. There wasn’t any word about it anywhere until today.

For base salary, sure. But bonuses? You would have to have an extra 2-3m to cover the possibility of winning every race plus the championship. That's probably not going to happen.

LOL.. Moderately good manager? When our top power agent in the sport is literally under criminal indictment for using over a half mil in client money on babysitters and to wine, dine, and purchase RVs for teenagers? Big ask.

A scoop doesn’t mean just parroting a rumour.  It means you’ve found a newsworthy item before anyone else; you then research and do what you can to verify that it’s true before publishing.

Wonder what this could mean for the Coenens next year?  How many factory KTM rides are they prepared to line up on the AMA side?

Isn't that what has happened here? It was a scoop that was true?

I am very confused by your comment

So who is cooksey's source? Someone said in other thread he's got a KTM group source.... who is it?

It's hilarious to me that people are arguing that journalists don't or shouldn't report rumors, that they have to wait for the PR.... if that's the case, they serve literally no purpose.

Such a weird dynamic in this sport.... journalists openly admit they bend to the will of those they cover so they don't lose access, don't report things until they're told they can, leak things when asked to, get scooped by a guy that's been totally shut out of the sport, then want to talk about the importance of independent journalism when feld starts talking about bringing it all in house.

I get that if you piss someone off they might not talk to you but there's a limit to how far teams can take that and if that's the job you do it anyway. The whole point of racing is for the exposure. I don't really buy that the most established journalists are going to get shut out of the sport for doing their job. They might lose friends and free meals in the trucks, but journalists in all other sports manage to do the job without the need to maintain bro relationships, and the journalists themselves aren't in group chats with all the other journalists sharing info and making sure everyone is on the same page. Matthes talks all the time about his friend who covers hockey and the difference in the norms in the two sports, and the lack of self awareness every time he mentions it is baffling to me. The upside for him isn't that it allows him to do his job better, it's the friendships, and fans defend this instead of wanting more out of the people who cover the sport.

So ML is usually on the cutting edge of breaking news. So tell us Michael, did you know about this and you behaved appropriately with the embargo per your "no buzz in the pits" statement, or were you completely surprised. Its fine if you give a redacted response.

Completely surprised, and talking to brands associated with the programs, agents of riders, etc, they were all caught off guard and didn’t know until late yesterday.

Correct. As I mentioned in another thread and our news video, I would say the AEO team gets the nod to become the official Husqvarna 250 effort going forward. I also wouldn't be shocked to see Tedder on Husky 450s in 2027.

It would be really cool to see another Rockstar rider on Suzuki again. Rockstar Suzuki had maybe my favourite team livery of all time
