Vital Admins—-why not merge this thread with the “early scoop” thread from yesterday? I’ll hang up and listen…

The bigger question: how long does Bajaj realistically find value in Husky or the Gas Gas brand at all?

I believe the writing is on the wall. I'd think at the very least, we'll see GasGas dropped within a couple of years.

Yep, and Rockstar just jumped back into Nascar after being out of it for several years. I think they chose to leave Husky, not vice versa, and KTM just decided to pull the plug all together.

Didn’t know they were back in NASCAR, that’s cool. Contrary to popular belief, NASCAR is making a slow comeback…

Yeah. Gas Gas is over. There's only 6 total 2026 models in the line (all prior leftovers), and I suspect the cabinet for 2027 will be even more barren.

Is this any different to what Yamaha do with star?

It's the exact opposite. Yamaha pays Star to operate the team. Husky will charge teams to run their factory hardware.

Note that the factory motor lease program has been available to the public for a bit so they really aren't extending anything special to the team here:

That's actually a very interesting question. Good on you to mention this. I think it is. Factory Yamaha is heavily involved with supporting contracts and Factory Parts for Star. 450 and 250.But will it be different with this?  I think so if the Factory Husky is not throwing their whole support and Rockstar money may be gone or going to another team. Like Mookie is a top tier guy who brings a lot to the table on many levels. But is Husky going to extend the money to him on a satellite team, It doesn't look like it at the moment. But this is still just unfolding. Bummer news for so many today

An if that is true, flat out lied in the other thread about it.

If I dealt with a person in real life that was straight with me 50% of the time but the other 50% was lies or fantasy, I would have no problem calling that person full of shit. I don't have the time or desire to try to figure out what is accurate.

When Cooksey is parroting information from a source, he is usually "right". The rest of the time he is spewing non-sense, some of it being pretty disgusting.

Well then I guess you would be right 50% of the time! I hear ya on most points and don't disagree. In this case though, he wasn't parroting anyone. Even ML confirmed there was "no rumors" flying around.

They are not letting them go, Rockstar signed deal with 23X! racing to be on the side of Tyler Reddick's car. So likely rockstar said they are out

Rockstar likely cut them loose as they signed  a deal with a NASCAR team 23XI

As much as it’s disappointing, I can’t really blame them. They switched over to sponsoring MJ’s Nascar team which is getting a lot more attention than Husqavarna racing SX/MX.

I think they didn’t even homologate the 26’s and anyone racing one this year is on a 25. And well, husky didn’t even release any 26’s 250/450 just left overs.

The difference being Cooksey will continue to be some dude talking to a camera stuck in his garage “leaking” information (some true, some not) while actual media outlets will interview riders, create articles on their websites and be able to report on the racing events that they obtain media passes for and get to attend.

Yeah we all know this- I was being sarcastic...Because, why go out of your way to post in the other thread (like ML did) stating the riders are signed thru 2027 and there has been no buzz around the pits- When that clearly was not the case.

Unless again, the mainstream media is so out of touch...

After I posted that I did a bunch of research and came up with my bulletin points and what’s in our news video.

Sounds like the riders didn’t know until pretty late yesterday.

I’m not sure Yamaha pays star. (Honestly not sure)

Yamaha pays Eli & Webb & supplies some bikes/parts that they’ll use.

Star pays JCoop & the 250 guys (maybe not Deegan)

Yamaha paying Star rider budget or providing parts or providing bikes is Yamaha paying Star.

Husky is offering to let teams lease their factory bikes/engines/suspension which is a sales --not marketing-- service that Bajaj/KTM already provides.

Which really sucks, GasGas was the shit to ride in Trials before PMG bought the name and they had some great offroad bikes too.  I know Reiju is now making the offroad stuff, but their name is still very obscure.  And GasGas is going to go away unless someone buys the name from Bajaj.

Also Rieju didn't get the rights to the trials bikes, which was Gas Gas' core business and were still being built by KTM in Spain prior to the liquidation. That factory has now been shuttered and who knows the fate of the product line.

If you're RJ or Malcolm, why not bail right now? Find some kind of landing spot. Do you really trust that husky is going to put any effort into this summer on their way out the door?

I'd also be pretty nervous about committing to KTM long term. I'm not sure the calculation that led to the end of gas gas and husky racing is all that different than what it could soon be for KTM.

Why would any team take them up on this lease offer? Current setup is if you're good enough on satellite team the factory throws you some support. Where are these teams going to find the budget that makes this kind of setup worth it to them? The bike doesn't seem to be limiting factor for teams like club or quad lock so not sure there's any real benefit to them over what they're already doing.

Yamaha still owns the 450 team and basically hired Star to run it for them, the 450 contracts and Deegans contract are with Yamaha and not Star

Ok so now that we got this bombshell confirmed, can we talk about the Michael Jordan/Chad Reed team announcement?

If they bailed now, they probably wouldn't get paid for the rest of the year.

Proof once again KTM is not trustworthy. Nor, it seems, is the sports media.

Here's what I know.

1. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna will cease to exist in 2027.

2. The majority of staff and technical effort will become KTM’s 250 program.

3. Ryder DiFrancesco and Daxton Bennick will move to this new KTM effort for 2027.

4. RJ Hampshire, and Casey Cochran are free agents and looking for rides.

5. Teams like AEO, Tedder, and maybe more could have access more factory level materials via Husqvarna

6. Malcolm Stewart I’m a bit lost on.

KTM is going to have a HUGE team in 2027, especially if the Coenens are coming.

Eli, Prado, Lucas, Sacha, Juju, Dax, and Ryder D.

All the KTM contracts are up this year.  I doubt that all those guys will be on the roster.

If you're waiting for official announcements, you're not doing journalism, you're doing PR for free.

This notion that all the legit journalists will be blackballed for reporting on things they're hearing has become a self fulfilling prophecy. The more reputable guys have all reported things that people didn't like and they're all still here and there's nothing to prevent them from doing it again. Some of you must not follow anything else in life if you don't think reporting rumors is fair game for journalists.

It will never not be embarrassing for the sport for cooksey to break a story.

I posted something about Triumph before it was officially released and ML received a call shortly after to take it down. They were not happy.

In the end it was Triumph that fucked up, not me.

Do that enough time and you can bet they'll deny you from accessing their pits and riders.
