He’s said all along it was his health, and I would imagine any problems beyond that are a result of frustration at not being able to ride and compete like he was before. In my opinion, it sounds like he wants to be out there and has had a hard time with the health issue holding him back.

As I suspected, you have misunderstood and misused the concept of irony, which is seeminly quite common in the US...hence, the reference to Fro in my original post. He is one of the worse offenders.
An example of irony would be the following: JA is arrested for domestic violence on the way to give a speech at an anti-domestic violence benefit gala.
Another example is you calling someone and 'asshat' for supposedly misunderstanding the irony in the comment, when it is you misunderstanding what irony is.

Honestly I think his health issues would be a more likely factor in him not returning than the off track stuff. His thyroid thing was clearly holding him back in the races we did see imo, and probably has been for a couple years. He got great starts and would eventually fade way back even though we know the dude generally has the speed to at minimum be a top 5 guy. I don’t really see that issue getting better so why bother returning
