So….with 4 kids all very in to many sports, our TV had sports of all types playing for hours a day.  My main sport is SX/MX.  Watching and riding.  SX/MX reporters are by far the least professional.  They talk about themselves, and make themselves the story a disturbing amount of the time they talk.  I did this, and I told a rider he should try this, and I am the best.  It’s really weird.  You just don’t see that in other sports.

BUT… that is our sport.  My oldest son, in his mid 30s, is an avid golfer.  When I join him and his golf friends, it is out of place for me.  Then I go ride with my riding friends and as we are taking breaks, we sit around and act like boys….up to someone farting as they pass by your head.  After the last lap the beverages come out.  My point?  We stay young doing the original extreme sport and I think we never completely grow up doing it.  Maybe our reporters reflect that.

We pretend to be adults in our daily lives.  One of my riding buddies actually ran across me at work and he had to look at me like 5 times and started laughing.  The professional look is such a contrast to the track.

It could be Lewis just meant the 'debrief' with Eli was short. I can see that. Eli doesn't talk much, it was a really bad race, the title is mostly out of reach now, and Tomac is taking the blame for it himself, telling Ian the bike setup is fine and that he needs to 'work on himself'.

That would be a very short debrief. Maybe nothing malicious at all. Clearly, Eli took it another way, though. There may be more to the Eli/Lewis history than we know.

I like Lew, he's been a nice addition to moto media.

I just find this whole "investigative journalism" stuff pretty gay and a waste of time and energy. Just enjoy the racing, I don't know why we need answers to all the hypotheticals.

The amount of time spent each week on podcasts, social media, etc. making predictions and assumptions that usually don't become reality literally a few days later is kind of weird. There's so many variables in motocross, those predictions almost never come true. They spent Sunday - Friday talking about what's going to happen, almost none of it happens on Saturday, then they scramble to find more talking points about it the next Sunday - Friday and make more predictions.

IMO, we need more discussion on the bikes, videos and photos recapping the racing itself, and letting the riders speak on their race without the "tough questions" that these guys are desperately chasing for answers for.

Heraring these grown men talk to a teenager and trying to pry information out of them to justify their job is kind of weird.

In my opinion, there's a sense of entitlement to this information that I don't think is deserved. Motocross is a tiny sport, no one actually cares in the grand scheme.

The moto media has gotten pretty bold. There seems to be a lack of respect for the riders to a certain degree that I don't agree with.

We could always get the media to do pods and what not and just read the results and sponsors from the page. Would that make it better for you?

You're complaining that they are talking about anything other than the black and white.

Eli should wear his hat backwards next week just to send Vitards over a cliff.

Maybe we can get all the riders to do the hat thing. Hat forward = Happy, backwards = not.  Less need for reporters, and teams can see they need to work harder to get a forward hat.

Funny thing is, I don’t think there is anything to the Chase hat backwards thing at all.  Just he has always worn hats backwards some.

Not a bad idea Shred.  We'd certainly learn more about what's going on with the rider than we get from the moto 'media'.

I mean I’m not sure I expected anything different.  But you vitards are insane.

All I’ve gathered from this thread is

- all foreigners are bad, except for the ones that aren’t in America

- if anyone wants to ask a rider a questions they must first show they have won a supercross main event.

- people are truly offended by any journalist or reporter that isn’t nutriding every rider.

- people are truly offended by any journalist or reporter nutriding any  rider

- talking about motocross is gay.

- predictions are gay.

- any tweet that isn’t a tweet from Eli is gay.

- shred thinks farting on your friends is core mx lore

did I miss anything?

I’m excited for LVK to unpack this thread this week

Eli is overly sensitive when it comes to media these days, looks very petty. When he gives so little and is so guarded, you are asking for speculation.

The guy looked absolutely unreal to start the season, had the red plate. Then has been average as fuck, with little to no fight for position when he ‘should’ pounce on opportunities (Hunter going down). With no rhyme or reason.

Lewis knows people in the pits. KTM flew the damn guy to their HQ for a tour a year or so ago. He’s not just a clickbait YouTube moron.

IMO it’s fair game, Eli should know that by now.

Might be a little too name - calling there Owen, but I get it. When you look at the riders and fans he constantly insults whether openly or passive aggressively, all the while a lot of them are far more accomplished humans than he is, he seems like a pretty small person. Like alot of these talking heads, his only achievements are being discussing the achievements of others, nothing else. His career is an observer rather than an achiever. Even his "helping the privateers spiel", his boss is the main guy taking advantage of privateers, and just Matthes's collection of memoribillia in his studio could support many privateers a few seasons. I love it when he talks about all of them going to a Ruth Chris for steaks on a race night, privateers are probably going to Sheetz. Yes, he is a hypocrite, leech, and shill.

This is a fascinating take. Very insightful (no sarcasm). It definitely tracks with the unfiltered shenanigans that occur here on the daily…

Lewis has a couple of options. 1. Spill the beans on who told him that Eli barely spoke to KTM. 2. Take this on the chin to try to salvage an amicable relationship with Eli. I say spill the beans. Who told you that Eli barely spoke to KTM, Lewis?

Just heard Lewis speak on Pulp. No one said explicitly that Eli had barely spoken to KTM. Lewis inferred that that was the case based on what people around Eli had said. Anyone hoping that Lewis will retire from Moto journalism or he'll be deported because of his Tweet will be very disappointed.

Lewis is one of the finest at what he does in this sport, appreciate almost everytime he writes/comes on camera, surprised there’s so much disdain for him in this thread. Eli firing off that tweet is so entertaining lmao

agreed. I rag on the "media" because they frustrate the hell out of me, but his questions are honest, transparent, and are actually the ones most of us fans want to have answered. Can't believe people are piling on the guy cause he's damn good at what he does.

Lewis does a good job. As a fan I could care less though about the obsession over the riders. I’m more interested in the bikes, than Eli’s team discussion or what tire he uses.

Bingo. Im an Eli fan but you can’t play this “im not doing interviews and when I do I won’t say any details” routine and not expect the media to attempt at reading between the lines of what isn’t said. Lewis’ interview with Ian after the race was so professional. He respected Ian’s place by asking tough questions but not forcing him into a corner and I appreciated Ian’s honesty. Even though he felt comfortable on it and he was lightning fast in practice and the heat, Eli made a mistake picking the scoop tire for the main, plain and simple. In the words of Ian; “If Eli wants to run square wheels and feels he can win on them, we’re giving him square wheels.”

I totally get that fans etc, are going to fill in the blanks. Hell, I do it all the time as a fan. But I think its a bit out of touch for a media personality to report something as fact, when it isn't. I highly doubt that Eli has not talked with KTM. Ian may say he hasn't really said anything because he hasn't got a straight answer, but hell, even Eli may not even know what is going on for all we know. If he knew exactly what was wrong, you wouldn't just "go back to square one" with the bike. I reserve judgement here depending on who's full of shit.

Two things for sure: Eli is not happy right now, and Lew is officially on his shit list.

I like Lewis when he talks. He makes sense and has a voice that keeps me interested in what he is talking about. The issue I am having lately, is that my immediate thought is to take it all with a grain of salt because his takes are EXTREMELY biased. you can't really believe the words that are coming out of his mouth as he has taken things out of context (like this instance) and applies his own "twist" on what is seemingly every fact he reports on. The absence of any critical Chase reports show this in spades. I have fact checked every single Lewis interview I have heard this season, and most of them have some degree of mistruth or "stretching of fact" in them. It's like listening to certain news outlets.

I do agree he could tone himself down a little bit for a while, if not ever, but a lot of what he says and does is quite funny to us "non" Americans.

Would not surprise me if this was an Eli burn in the same fashion.....
