While I don’t agree with your assessment I will say many of the “I’m so stoic and unbothered” kinda people end up quietly imploding.
Life is stressful. Situations are hard. Not acknowledging that stuff properly can be hard. He did look pretty fine to me though.
Fwiw it was a weird part of the whoops. He might’ve ridden it out but the bike caught on that last “half-whoop” and sent him down. Just bad luck. Was a hard hit, and we know other riders would’ve been out the rest of the season or at least 4-5 races.
Looked awesome! ( N O H A T E )
Just want Kenny to finally win a SX championship!
You could argue he should have been black flagged if his bike was malfunctioning. Danger to himself and other riders

Oi! Oi! Oi!
Black flag? Can you imagine the current AMA crew trying to manage that? They can’t even get blue or red cross flags right.
He had a moment in that section in quali 2.
Hunter is giving his all and has stepped up his riding intensity.
You can be assured he has forgotten it already and looking to the next race and giving it all he's got.
🇦🇺💪
He's usually a pretty cerebral rider. Just one lap before I watched chase hug that left side of tuff blocks looking for fresh track to skip the whoops safely and Hunta hit that main line he (and too many others) had been hitting all night. He almost ate shit hard swapping at the end.
Eli is behind him and the only two guys in front have/had no dog in the fight. Not saying he shouldnt do his thing and push hard to the end go for a win if able but maybe change lines or jump safely to ensure you at least podium with Eli behind... that crash was really hard and not necessary.
Johhny O...where art thou!?
I like Hunter and genuinely think he's getting better and better, but he HAS to take advantage of this time now before little bro comes back. I think Hunter is definitely a legitimate threat BUT Jett is clearly the better/faster rider. It will be interesting to see once outdoors start if Jett truly is 100% to start the season just how well Hunter matches up. Tomac & Roczen should be right up there too but if Jett is 100% healthy I don't see anyone taking the throne from him. Hunter may be the most consistent threat, I just hope he has the speed to match with Jett.
Yeah I made a similar comment about Chase. He doesn't always capitalize when Jett is out injured. Two sx titles up for grabs Chase could have won. Hunter needs to get this. As much as I'd like to see Kenny or Eli win this, I dont see Hunter being beat. He checks too many of the boxes. If he's not the fastest, he's close. His starts are great, he's consistent. He's tough. Hunter will get it done IMO
Well as it is now it's only 4 points with how he's riding and with whatever unfortunately is going with Eli he could have the red plate back by next week (Not saying he will but COULD) At the moment I'd say his biggest title threat is Kenny.. I do hope Eli figures out whatever is happening in the races though.. I'd be varying degrees of happy if any of those 3 win the title
I reckon he'll be kicking himself for it. Riding comfortably in 3rd, I think he was just starting to turn it up as both he and Chase seemed to be closing on Roczen. Seeing the gap at the end between Roczen and Chase, and Chase's post-race "couch" comments, 2nd (at least) was there for the taking.
Big points swing, but went about as good as it could have for as bad as it went.
Exactly what I was thinking. When I was watching the race and he had that moment where he almost crashed in the same spot a few laps prior I thought he should switch to jumping
Yeah I think he might have just got caught up in the moment: after bad start (by his standards), he was charging forward and rapidly catching Sexton and Roczen, so his lines were working and he probably didn’t want to change.
He would have been seeing blood in the water with Tomac behind him, but it ended up being him who got bit.
He is a tough son of a bitch, I think he will be fine.
I saw the swaps a few times in the whoops and saw him searching around. I had a bad feeling it was coming. Should of stayed to the left as the right side was chewed out.
Extra frustrating because he's usually very good at being objective and not letting emotions cloud his judgement
Am I misremembering or was this the issue with this gen Honda last year as well? Stepping out in the whoops?
Just watched the mains this morning.
Points loss be damned, just glad he wasn't hurt.
Even though Kenny wasn't that far away, I don't think he was going to catch him.
Kenny had it goin' on !!!
But he was certainly setting chase up for a pass up into 2nd place.
Pit Row
Yeah, I definitely think Hunta wanted to send a message to Chase; too bad it bit him in the ass. Ironically, Sexton did something similar in the past, racing harder than necessary for the win, and crashing out. Lawrence will learn and rebound.
He was going to get Chase for sure. Considering he gets better at the end of the mains, maybe he wins. Next race will be must see TV. Kenny, Hunter, and Eli all looking to bring it. Kenny has to chip away at those points. Eli has to right the ship and at least start to look like himself again. Hunter has to shake off that disaster from Saturday and get back to being Dungey 2.0
Hunter is generally a smart rider but it seems that red plate was carrying some weight to it. He had Eli flailing behind and was still pushing hard to get to the front, and the bonehead Roczen pass... he just needs to get back to being consistent instead of being the fastest guy on the track.
Nothing but questions at the moment. How hard will Jett be able to push? Heck...who will finish SX healthy enough to ride MX? And, as much as I dislike that peckerwood Deegan...he is gonna be in the mix from the jump.
That crash was so sudden. Normally you see guys get out of shape 1/2 to 2/3 through the whoops. Like a wound up spring that came for him all at once and nothing to pull it back.
One second my hands were full, the next second they were empty…

Seems like those last few whoops were problematic for quite a few racers.
This is the unavoidable situation where experience is virtually irreplaceable. He didn't need to blitz those things like he was, he was in a comfortable spot and Eli was already going backwards. The whoops tried to bite him multiple times before he finally crashed. He didn't listen.
Fortunately for Hunter he's been so dang good the rest of the races this near catastrophic crash only puts him a few points back from Tomac.
I'm a huge Tomac fan but Hunter could have the red plate back in a week. As bad as this could have been, maybe it's just what he needed to learn.
Bottom line is this title is a whole lot more exciting now.
It was the current gen Honda they talked about it a lot coming into last year
As true as this is, watching Hunter I think his biggest strength is clicking off lap after lap hitting the same lines with literally rock solid form and so few missteps. He takes the same lines and hits them the same way every single race. And a few laps in he speeds up those same lines with confidence and brings it home. It’s almost robotic, but in this case not switching lines is what ultimately cost him
Maybe took it real easy because the front brake was ''iffy''. He did good considering the hit he took.
Did he have front brakes anymore? I was wondering if the mechanic cracked the brake line open to get the front freed up. Whatever he did, it was fast.
