If the AMA came out and said they messed up, gave Deegan back last week’s win* and adjusted the East Coast points to what they should have been, how would you feel about it?

*Deegan still gets a points penalty.

Was the penalty for crossing the markers announced to riders before race? If so, nothing to see here. If not, carry on.

Only question that matters but hasn't been answered from what I have seen.

The Red Cross/ red light incidents were handled way worse than this one.

There is no question that they gave the penalty that was set for the violation. Are you cool with getting a speeding ticket every time you drive 1mph over the speed limit?

Correct. In one situation they said they gave the penalty they said they would and in the other situation they did not.

I think it would look like a knee jerk decision on the AMA and tarnish their already sketch rules decisions if they changed their stance on this. Regardless of who made that infraction in Deegan's case, he went through the pack, pulled a gap and that very minor infraction didn't give him an advantage. Taking a win away for that is not in the best interest of the sport in my opinion.

That would show that the fans have more authority over the AMA so it would be a bad look; leaving the enforcement of rules in the hands of the loudest fans. If they wanted to revise a ruling, they should revisit the Red Cross flag incident and give out the appropriate penalties according to the rule book. At least then they can say they are following the written rules for all these incidents.

A lot of these rules seem to keep catching people and riders off guard and it takes an incident for them to realize what’s wrong with the rule before it can be adjusted/fixed. They should at least change the penalty of the rule to be less severe than an automatic loss of position by next year though, in my opinion.

What do you think the other teams would have said if they didn't give it? He wasn't pushed out there. It's not a regular track marker. It's a go left or right split lane. There where no mitigating circumstances, other than "well he had a big lead". No discretionary call announced for sure.

If they didn't hand it out, it would rain fire from hell that such an obvious violation wasn't penalized.

Can't compare it to speeding ticket since there are known limits to what they can move within, given tolerances. If I got a ticket for 2mph over, just suck it up.

Kawi and Honda were hurt more because the penalty WAS given. Yamaha benefited. The fairest thing to do was dock Deegan three points but not touch anyone else’s.

Split lane wasn't written down, same as red cross (but communicated differently). So there should be no penalty at all you mean, for any of the riders?

Needs to be positions, or combo which makes it more complicated that people talk about (gained, not gained). If it's points you have to have 3 minimum + penalty of 4 to not have a situation where you cut track to steal a win away and demote another rider the win points, 6 points swing. And if you are then in 5th and do it, you should get 7 points deduction to keep it same?

True. If you rule out Deegs getting hurt and clinching early.

So you should now consider what team is in what place, how potentially big impact this particular situation has on the Championship.

IMO, if Deagan wasn't such a douche, the incident may have been overlooked.

The AMA’s reputation is so tarnished now, nothing they could do would make it worse !

No, its just that hypothetical situation's are stupid and have zero value, now who would win between superman and the flash.

I’m mostly mad that it cost Hammaker and Shimoda points.  The should’ve docked Deegan 3 points and let him keep the win instead of blowing it for the east coast.

It seems a lot of fans are struggling to suck it up , how are they going to handle things in the future ?

Because they didn’t go with the rule book and chose not to penalize for jumping on a Red Cross. This showed there is leniency to the rules and this was leniency towards the most serious type of rule - one related to safety. Jump to Alabama and they throw the book at Deegan claiming that’s what they have to do despite it being a much smaller infraction, not even involving safety. Asides from safety, an advantage of a few seconds was gained by the people who jumped on the Red Cross in Arlington. Deegan’s line the time he did it was hardly faster, may have actually been slower.

Did it rain fire from hell after Arlington when riders battling for the lead jumped on Red Cross flags yet weren’t punished?
