My username and join date is inaccurate. I was banned a long time ago.
But, I thought I'd give a little education to a few of the other "newbies" lol.
Tonight I was digging into to some old screenshots I had taken a few years ago regarding cylinder heads for Mopar stuff for an article Im doing.
Within those pics I noticed an old thread I had started on AR15.com and Newmann had commented on.
See, I always used the the same screenname here and there. Newmann didnt. He was "elsinore13" over there. Of course that caught my attention many years ago, as we were both 'old-heads' here, and there; with regard to join dates.
It was the pics Newmann posted that allowed me to 'connect the dots'. I sent a PM, then he did, and we found out that we actually work THE EXACT SAME job. That was wierd.
Same job, dirt bikes, restos, same gun interests...it was, bizarre. But given those interests and more specifically the job we both did, it was more like a sounding board.
I'll move the talk by simply saying.....we lost Newman WAYYYY TOO EARLY.
But somehow in there, I made contact with Newman's Son. I wont name him here, but he sent me the nicest letter afterward. I hold that letter in high regard to this day, taped inside my "Cabinet" of MX gear.
From there, I asked to finance some stickers through MXG. They played along and to this day, you will find this sticker on my bikes, helmet, and beer fridge.
We have Lost Newmann.....But I say,
Long Live Newman.

I'll always love this PM reply from the 'gun site' hahah. Vital= Teen Beat Magazine
IIRC, i mailed out a bunch of the stickers to members. Cant see that now because I got banned.
But I think about 50 folks asked for Newmann stickers and sent em to everyone.
Anyone still have one? I still have a small stack here.

I just found the old thread i made here....
https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Moto-Related,20/When-keeping-it-real-goes-wrong,1394524
I just noticed, if you read this thread....it dosent make much sense bc GuyB deleted a bunch of it regarding me deciding to race again to carry the Newmann spirit and help a young guy. It picks up later, but all the context is gone.
I forgot we had MA800 involved hahaha
Good dude.
What happened to Newman?
We lost him to Covid.
That’s too bad…. 💔 Was he from Texas and got flooded out years ago and also built a garage?
Yes these things did happen
To this day....how my set-up looks
I never met Newmann, but damned if I dont cherish our messages and his son.
Atta boy
Ill assume the down-votes are GuyB, hahaha
I joined late but he had some awesome posts. That Mugen 125 Johnny O replica. Tragic loss too early in life.
I've been here a fair bit, don't post as much now.
Newman was definitely one of the good ones, RIP.
Newmann was one of the best. He helped me on several bike rehabs. He sent me a complete new plastic kit for a YZ50 and refused payment. They don’t build them like him much anymore.
I believe he started the “spoke with my wallet” post when he purchased his KTM 150sx, long live 2 strokes and Newmann
Pit Row
I believe you sent me a few. I have one on my main toolbox at home, my small box I bring to the track, and the garage fridge. I might still have 1-2 left that are unused.
I nominate Newmann for the VitalMX HOF.
He was kind to all, and very helpful to strangers (I was one of them). Great thread, RIP Newmann 🙏
Translation....He was already really sick and "covid" finished him off. Covid was the biggest wolfticket bs job in history. RIP Newman. He was a good one.
You couldn't just not post this?
Two days before Joe passed, we were texting about a source that he had for zinc plating bolts for a restore that I was working on. Then he casually mentions that Covid is "kicking his ass" and he's being admitted. He kept me up to speed on what was going on and then stopped replying. Derrick called a couple of days later and filled me in after seeing my texts following up. An extremely sad day.
Joe was a great guy. He was better than great. He would drop everything to help you figure something out, and he pretty much had everything figured out! He built me my first, absolutely perfect, 1974 CR125 vintage bike and shipped it from Texas. We had never met, and it was better than I ever could have hoped for. The price? $2,000. It was a long time ago. Years later he sold me the Mugen pictured here.
We can all learn something from Joe. If you have knowledge, share it. If you can help someone that needs help, do it. One of the nicest people I've ever met. We became good friends, and I was lucky enough to spend some really fun times with him over the years, Miss him every day.
I never met him but did communicate with him on here a few times. Seemed like a great guy! I did get some decals from someone on Vital after his passing and have them on a couple bikes.
WTF does that mean “already really sick”? Like BTeam, I was talking to Joe several times per week up to him being admitted and up to then he was rocking. He also used the exact same term to me that it was “ Kicking his ass”. I also spend about 15+ weekends annually with his brother Albert at AHRMA National events ,so unless you have insider family info on joes health history, clamp that mouth shut.
Anyway , to add to Joes legacy, the dude knew a ton more than 95% of the posters on here and was more than happy to share that knowledge with anyone who asked . He hooked me up with a half dozen PVL ignitions over the years and we had some great conversations about our vintage mx experiences. He was one of the really good guys and I miss him . And yes he should definitely be enshrined in any VitalMX HOF that may come to be
I miss Joe a ton. There's not a time I see my projects and don't think about him and the many swaps and great exchanges of help we shared, pretty one-sided benefiting me to be honest. Still have my text threads with him over that last weekend after he was admitted.
Count me in as a Joe fan too.
At some point I had posted something here about restoring an 81 YZ250 and having trouble finding a certain discontinued part I needed. In spite of me never communicating with Joe in any way at all, he messaged me and said he had the part if I still needed it. As other's have said, I wanted to pay him for it , but he refused to take anything. Instead he said "maybe you'll have a part I need someday". Sad to know that I won't be able to repay his generosity.
Right on!! Joe was my buddy—-he seemingly was a lot folks “buddy.” How could anyone not like the guy? Only GuyB… I too was banned many moons ago by The Gibber. I also run the JN13 stickers and will until I quit. I stay in contact with the family and consider them part of my own. Miss ya, Joe—a lot of us do.
What an awesome tribute you guys that knew him have made here.👏
