if he rides like last night, with that speed, Stewart will be the 2011 champ. Lucky he didn't get a good start, race up front would have been boring.

Was just thinking that, lets hope Stewart doesn't get any holeshots. Think 10th place starts will be prime for television viewing.

We just saw the changing of the guard. James caught up and Ryan upped his pace to keep the 3 second gap. Both RV and Dungey looked like they were just riding to get through the weekend. And they went 1 and 2. James was casing things and dancing around. Its a new era.
Is that why James beat RV in the qualifier? Nothing has changed really, JS is still fastest but he did not get a great holeshot. I agree with another poster, the track kinda sucked. Very little passing ( but thats ok because it made all the passes James made look that much sweeter)

I do hope we are seeing the smarter James. If he is, he will crash less, win more and have a longer carrer. People can debate who is the fastest but when I see him race, Ricky gives his stamp of approval, James beats Reed even though Reed keeps crashing him, I see the fastest guy on the planet right now.

While James's speed was incredible last night, there's no saying that if he started 2nd that either Dungey or RV couldn't have upped the pace. Can we stop pontificating about what WOULD have happened with different circumstances and talk about what DID happen? Stop with the idea that James has yet another gear. You saw his top gear, we all did. And it is very fast! But stop with trying to continue this aura that he isn't human and can just go infinitely faster. He almost bit it hard a few times while just cruising around. What no one saw last night in the main is either Dungey or Villo have a single close call. I didn't even see a bobble out of either of them. I do not think we saw RV's top gear last night. Dude is coming off a badly broken leg. Wait until round 3 or 4.
I'm not disagreeing OR agreeing. But how in the hell did you watch all three riders at the same time during the main?

Special 3d glasses maybe?

A lot of people are seeing what they want to see. Next week is another race, and people will see what they want to see there, too.

It's going to be a great season for people who are not fully invested fanboys.

All of the top guys rode well. One point that has been nearly overlooked is that RD did not have a great start. It was ~midpack; better than JS, but far from ideal. RD and JS moved up nicely.

Like I posted earlier the heat races don't really mean shit other then your gate pick for the main. The main is what everyone wants to WIN. Thats when you turn it up a notch and ride to your max ability or push it beyond. Im not taking anything away from James. But Everyone leaves the gate at the exact same time, quit making excueses for this person and that person. Sit back and watch the greatest SX series we have had in years.

Dungey was 4th off the start, a couple seconds behind RV on lap 1. He took a while to pass Metcalf, and then got stuck behind IT for quite a while until IT almost threw it away in the rhythm section.

What kind of start did Reed get? Is there a lap chart out there anyone can get their hands on like they have for outdoors? That would be cool to look at.

Stewart and Reed started 11th an 12th respectively.

I'm still going with RD for the chapionship but he is going to have to be more agressive if he wants to win it this year. I think last night was just a bunch of guys trying to survive the first race of the season and we will see things more clearly over the next round or two. JMO

Great great point. Whatever guy in third in 2009, probably Andrew Short, was blown by with turbo speed. He's not blowing by either of the Ryan's. Is he the fastest? Probably. But even with a top six holeshot, you might not win.

I didn't watch all three. I watched my TV. They put these things called cameras in there that let me see things from far away. It's so cool. When the camera-thingys were showing Rv and Dungey, I never saw them make a mistake. When the camera-thingys were on Stewart I saw him case a triple and almost crash.

The class is stacked I will tell you that. Grant 9th, Short 10th? Those guy's were top four at least last year. No one is gonna run away with this. Villo looked great but didnt show me he's any faster than Dungey. It's whoever gets the start just like last year.

Oh boy............James was around 17th after the first corner and he ends up two seconds behind RD and five seconds behind RV, not to mention that his fastest lap time was almost a second faster than both of them and was pretty consistant in terms of how much time he gained per lap at the end of the race.

No one ever said that he win by 30 seconds this year. The reality is that he has raced four races (one in MX) in the last year and a half and was only fully health for one of those races. RD and RV rode great races and will be there all season, but to think that James doesn't have what it takes to be there all season long is somewhat short sighted. Apparently some of you didn't see RD's big get-off last season or RV's season ending crash last year.

Im a Reed fan , big fan of any Aussie rider dont mind James, love watching him ride and would love to see someone really take it to JS week in week out, but unless he starts 17th every round this year, or at least 10th or worse he is going to be hard to beat.

What we all need to remember is something like this. RV got 5th at A1 in 2010 and he was 44 seconds behind Stewart......on his way to winning 7 races. Where was Canard 1st half of 250 MX in 2010? Where was Dungey at Hangtown in 2010? For that matter, did it look like MC was about to go on a win streak at the 1st race in 1993 or RC was going to do the same in 2001 SX after the 1st race?

Of all that happened last night, it does not mean Reed is done, or Short and the 350 are done, or RV has everyone's number, or Dungey or even Canard can't catch fire. 16 more races to go and it looks pretty promising that we have a fun year to watch. That's about all we have figured out after one race. Stewart needs to figure out why he keeps gettting these shit starts.

Whats really strange here is that RV and RD finished 1-2 and yet most on here say RD is having a slow start/not fast or that RV is lucky or not up to snuff! I just don't get it sometimes..
These are the two to watch if they stay healthy IMO but its waaaay to early to count out any of the top 5 from last night or to start calling IT-9 a fag for puttin' it in on JS7.. But of course we may never hear from that certain poster again..monday the boss will be back to clean houseWink

Interesting. So what happened to Poto and Dungey while the camera was pointed at Stewey?

Nice try though. Lets talk cameras if you prefer Wink

Btw, all I'm getting at here... is that your logic is fubar. That is all.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing.
