Agreed then I have to click on them anyway to see if it’s one I have been following along with.

In my experience it gets me to click and open it as opposed to just scrolling right by. Haha, I don’t know why my curiosity gets me every time. And usually, you guys are right and I should have never opened it based on your downvotes

They should just have a warning that the thread talks about Deegan and/or is full of stupid comments.

That would be a lot of warnings.

I like it because it’s a small bit of shame for the person who posted it. Some of the takes here are so mind numbingly bad, they need to feel a bit of shame for subjecting others to something so stupid.

Having to click on a hidden thread just to see someone complain about hidden threads is kinda funny.

Let's be honest, everytime something is shown as hidden, you wanna click on it even more. 😂

i remember when GuyB fired up the downvote feature and most were like "Eh, that seems kinda silly....." and years later, we're still saying the same thing.

Probably should just get rid of down votes altogether.  What purpose do they really serve?  Even the most positive posts get down votes so they really don't mean anything anyway.

***BTW, feel free to down vote this, I neither check nor care

Anonymous down votes are the dumbest thing on Vital.

The capacity to feel shame requires a degree of moral intelligence. If an otherwise decent, mature, intelligent person screws up, they will feel ashamed. An imbecile - especially one lacking moral decency - might not have the insight required to understand that they ought to be ashamed. So the people with the most to be ashamed of are least likely to be ashamed. And an otherwise decent and intelligent person who occasionally screws up (and we all do sometimes) doesn’t deserve to be treated too harshly. So why bother?

The hidden post thing probably increases traffic to those posts. Hide something and we all want to see it.

I would assume up and down votes are recorded engagement that helps with places like Vital to sell advertising? (just a small portion of the overall engagement of course)

Nope, because it doesn’t reload a page or create an ad impression. So it in no way gives us a metric or a number that would be used for traffic fans or monetization.

Without knowing where the downvote came from, it's hard to feel shame. I would take it as a compliment from some here if I knew they downvoted my posts.

downvoting is ridiculous. Someone could post about how their grandma just died, and there would be 26 downvotes. It's the dumbest "feature" on this site.

I just came in here to make the observation that this thread's title is hidden due to downvotes. I love irony.

I will never understand the need for people over 40 to see who disagrees with them online haha who cares? Do you get this worked up over differing opinions in real life? Why does the 40 plus crowd do nothing but complain and whine?
