I doubt they switched. The sound penalty is so stupid. They test post race in a completely different environment than pre race. If they are hell bent on penalizing for sound they should fine the team. The rider has nothing to do with how loud the exhaust they are given to race with.
Can someone explain to me why we have sound restrictions? ....in the same stadiums open header monster trucks perform in?
Why does sound tighten year after year for pro events?
The main thing is, dirt bikes are a consumer product. Monster trucks are not. If they can force the race teams to create new technologies or work arounds to lower sound, it will eventually trickle into the new bikes that we buy. In theory, it will give us a better chance at keeping our tracks open which often get closed down due to noise.
Now does this work in reality? Probably not because you swap it for an after market exhaust.
Honestly for the folks that hate electric dirt bikes they should be on board with quieter ICE bikes to help keep them around longer.
I'm always amazed how often this has to be explained to folks.
We are our own worst enemy.

Simple...the manufacturers are the ones that have requested the sound limits because they know that at every race there are consumers of their products and the manufacturers want the bikes to look and sound like what they sell...they know that sound is major complaint about off-road motorcycles and if they don't have lower sound emissions then more riding areas/tracks will close and that will negativly affect their sales....common sense really....
The after market exhausts are under the same sound restrictions.....the real problem is the people that don't maintain their exhaust and seldom if ever repack their silencers...we have come a long way from the un-silenced two strokes that were raced in the early 70's...
Just bring back the 2 strokes again already!!!
if you think sound is what’s closing local tracks you haven’t been paying attention to the insurance battles going on around the country. Additionally, tracks used to be out in the middle of nowhere now suburbia has spread to the middle of nowhere and every Karen, Susan, Josh or Kevin is going to shut down anything around them due to traffic congestion, dust, watering the track is waisting water, or some other environmental concern… even a track filled with only starks will be shut down!
I just don't frikkin undersand how someone with a failed sound check recieves a championship point penalty (specially when the rider can't do shit about it), meanwhile for constantly ignoring blue flags or riding aggressive and taking out other riders all they get are those stupid licensed penalty points that will never get to 15 anyways within a year. Make it make sense.

Fully agree. It’s a multilayer shit cake where none of the flavors are good for us riders. Insurance, sound, ecological challenges. You name it.
Even crazier when you consider that in the eyes of the AMA failing post race sound is 3/5 as bad of an infraction as doing what Deegan did to Jo at the SMX final last year.
Pretty sure the MXGP rule is even stricter....I believe it is 5 positions in the race...so not only do they lose in the place in the moto they also lose the points which if you won the moto but were penalized to 5th it would be a 7point penalty and a loss of the overall....
What's even crazier is someone that suffers DDS so bad that they go into a totally unrelated thread and make it about Deegan...come on man...
I have not seen a track get closed down due to sound, but I have seem them get closed down due to lawsuits.
Not just about the tracks it's more about public and private riding areas....the majority of MX bike sales do not end up on a track...
KINDA, BUT TRUCKS ARE HUGE SELLERS. THE FORD F 150 IS THE BEST SELLING VEHICLE IN AMERICA AND AN AFTERMA RKET EXHAUST IS COMMONLY ONE OF THE MODS A TRUCK OWNER DOES, IF YOURE SAYING EVERY LOCAL MX ER WANTS HIS BIKE LOUD ASF BECAUSE THE PROS BIKES ARE LOUD ASF. I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT AS A COMMON MISCOONCEPTION IS THAT IF ITS LOUD, ITS POWERFUL. I HAVE A FRIEND WHOS SON USED TO RACE FOR PRO CIRCUIT YEARS AGO WHEN THE SOUND ISSUE FIRST STARTED. HE SAID MITCH DEVELOPED A NEW EXHAUST THATWAS A LITTLE QUIETER THN THEIR CURRENT RACE EXHAUST AND ACTUALLY MADE A COUPLE MORE HP. BUT AT A TEAM TEST DAY, ALMOST EVERY ONE OF HIS RIDERS CLAIMED THAT THE OLDER, LOUDER PIPE WAS BETTER! MITCH THEN BROKE OUT HIS DYNO TEST AND MOST STILL CLAIMED THAT THE OLD, LOUD PIPE WAS BETTER. SO MITCH SHOWED THEM THEIR LAP TIMES FROM THAT DAY AND EVERY RIDER TURNEDBETTER LAP TIMES WITH MITCHS NEW. QUIET PIPE. THE POINT IS THAT OLD HABITS AND BELIEFS DIE HARD EVEN IN THE FACE OF CONCRETE PROOF,
It’s closed course professional racing. Sound limits are dumb. The manufacturers can put choked up exhaust components units being sold to the public. This is ridiculous.
Also, to reply to some of the people saying that “ quieter dirt bikes will keep tracks open.” I’ve never seen a track sound test bikes upon entry. If it was a real concern they’d be checking. Hell, AMA district 37 checks a selected bike group for open desert racing.
Pit Row
I trying to figure out how they will spin this so its the fault of his riding pants
The AMA was the main subject of my post, reading comprehension. . .
Is your F150 SUSUKI yellow?
Here’s where the sound testing gets me. The PA’s at every national and supercross I’ve been to are deafeningly loud compared to the bikes. 2024 Ironman the PA was so loud they actually turned it down after a while and everyone clapped, just like the movies.
If it’s so downright simple then why don’t you answer my inquiry in a concise sentence or two.
Good thing they don't govern Top Fuel
Imagine being so obsessed with defending a rider you make up a fictitious title for the "haters" then take it a step further and refer to your own clown phrase using an acronym lmao.
A post race sound penalty is the equivalent of a penalty for chain tension being less after a race than before.
Certain parts wear and that’s very difficult to avoid. Muffler packing burns and blows out, that’s a given. A hot engine and exhaust is also louder than one just fired up for a moment.
If the AMA is deadset serious about noise compliance, then do the testing immediately pre-race, not post.
Meanwhile the three real points penalty vs pretend penalties for deliberate indiscretions is laughable.
Never change AMA, never change.
this is gatekeepy and incendiary. if you're implying forums used to be more gatekeepey, you're very wrong. this 'tude is much more reminiscent of reddit than the forums i knew.
