State of Moto in Your State

Jersey seems ok for now I guess. Raceway Park and Field of Dreams are the only tracks holding amateur racing.  Theres also a private facility you can buy a yearly membership to for $2000 or 6 months for $1000 but thats about it for tracks open to the public. Englishtown is still around although the original racetrack across the street has been abandoned since half the property sold about a decade ago.  New practice track is pretty good, not as technical or prepped nearly as good as the old one used to, but I always look at it as, hey its still here and we have a public track still available.  Pricing went through the roof since covid though.  Used to be $40/ day and it has since gone up to $60 to pre register ($80 at the gate if you didn't) and since last year, you are now required to purchase an AMA yearly membership even to go there on practice days.  It used to be just for racing.

NJ Field of Dreams is by far a much better ran facility in just about every aspect.  The national track is prepped WAY better and has great ruts, braking bumps, chop, deeper soil etc.  Their pricing is much better, no pre register required, $50 to ride for the day if you buy a yearly membership for $100, plus a 5$ gate fee no matter what,$70 each time if you are not a member. I feel they try to keep their costs down as much as possible, but they still need to pay staff and keep up with track maintenance.  NJ seems pretty pricey compared to other states daily ride rates but it is what it is.  As of now we do have 2 public tracks available that are 45 minutes or an hour and 40 minutes from my location.  Wouldnt be surprised to see Englishtown disappear in the next decade or so, but Millville seems like they will be around for a while.  

Yeah, I live in northern Kentucky and east fork is about the only place around any more. Even it’s over an hour. Used to have several tracks about an hour south, but I haven’t ridden any where in Kentucky in 5 years or so.You would think Lexington or Louisville area would have to have a track based off the populations. I drive into Indiana to go to blue river or am lucky to have a free track ran by the city of Harrison, oh I that is about 35 minutes away. But it attracts the kind of people you would expect at a free track.

That sounds great on paper, but where do they take injured riders and how long will it take to get back over the border for the ones who don’t want to chance the medical treatment in Mexico ? 

Are we talking about only racing or just accessibility to moto practice tracks? It seems like Southern and Northern CA, Texas, Florida, and the Carolinas all are doing well with a decent amount of tracks to ride at the very least. I am going to be moving this year and would like to have a few tracks within a hour or two rather than only having one within two hours.

SoCal depends on are where you live. I lived in San Diego county and closest track was Barona on Indian reservation at about 30 minutes. Then you had to stretch out to Cahuilla (East/deserty) at about 1.5 hrs, Perris 1.5-2.0 hrs, Glen Helen more like 2 hrs. Traffic is the biggest thing that extends your travel time going into LA area.

This! NW Indiana / SW Michigan is a very good spot to be. Just sucks the weather only lets us ride half the year...

KS is trying to pass legislation to protect race tracks from People building next to an existing track and then complaining about noise. I'm hoping it gets pushed through because it's common sense. 

A new/old track opened up in Splendora, Tx north of town, Houston area.  I’m not familiar with the track.  I always thought it was a ATV/SxS.  Looks like it back to MX now.   Some of the guys on Facebook Houston MX group talked about racing their years back.  I looked at their Facebook page and they have races scheduled.  Facebook page said two MX tracks, one a sand track as I recall and 4 miles of trails.

That makes 5 tracks Houston area.  Ultimate MX, Rio Bravo, Three Palms, Splendora, and MX2.0 halfway between Houston and Beaumont. 

RI has a track that is mostly used for practice but I think they also ran the first mx race since around 1978 in this state.  No legal off-road riding besides that.  Not a lot of trails or open spaces left that we enjoyed decades ago. 

Lewiston MX is killer, Eric does a great job and always changing things up. The rest of that region isn’t great, Horn Rapids and Airway Heights are still running strong and fossil bowl has increased their activity but still not huge. We have lost Alderdale, Newport, Toes, Mabton, the arenacross track out by Moses lake, and I was told this is Goldendales last year also even though they only hold a handful of practices a year. Community/i-90 is on its 3rd or 4th owner in just a few years and it feels like no one can make that location work. 

One good thing about that region is off-road, i promote 2 off road events a year and they are getting huge. All the off road races are hitting record numbers and more races are popping up on new land that hasn’t been raced before. The off road scene looks great which is good for a lot of people.
