I see all the West SX rounds will be starting at 4 PM. I know we’ve had a bunch of daytime races previously just wondered your thoughts ?

Part of the “magic” of SX for me was the fact it’s run at night under the lights, especially when you throw in some of those great opening ceremonies.

Had some great nights at Anaheim, San Diego etc , not sure what the vibes gonna be starting in daylight.

Thoughts:  Disappointed? Indifferent? Preferred?

Disappointed…I like it under the lights. Gives it a better experience.

Didn’t they do that last year too? I’m pretty sure all the races started by 7 or 8 EST. I don’t remember having to stay up til like 1AM at all last year.

IDK i kinda like the late start on east coast. Can screw around all evening and can come home and watch the races at 10.

I’ll be at A1. I generally like it.  I’m an early riser / early to bed type tho.

You must be alot younger than me.  When they didn't start until 10, I used to spend the main events asleep on the couch drooling on myself.

Daytime fireworks are like daytime headlights. Why... Rider introductions with no spotlights, laser lights when the sun's out, it just doesn't work. Oh well one more thing for old guys to say WTF about, we're used to it. 😆

I believe it was 5 or 530. Either way, pretty lame. Opening ceremonies at A1 when it’s not dark sucks.

I'm not a fan at all with the live experience being at 4pm. The opening ceremonies in the daylight just ain't the same.  Also tailgating and spectating aren't the same vibes either.

It also mucks up the ride day flow too. You used to be able to go ride, then come home and watch replays of qualifying and get all situated before the race started. Last year I watched less live west coast SX than the years before.

I get why they do it, but it still impacts the west coast fans schedule pretty annoyingly

So as a UK viewer this is great , means we get midnight start, and done by 3am.

As a US punter, i would say that it gives people a chance to get to race, and leave , and get home in a day , not get bilked for a hotel at stupid money , and cut down on costs.

And for those who have the $$ , you can get a meal after, and enjoy the rest of the evening.

And some of these races are not in the nicest parts of town either.

In the UK , the Speedway GP at Cardiff got switched to an afternoon start for that reason, the hotels went stupid on prices, so the next year they changed it all, started real early , and anyone who lived with 4 hours of the place ( which is half of the UK ) could get home the same day... they had a big fanzone in the city, and it was mobbed with folk.   It never went back.

And for a PPV platform, surely having the race at a time that works for both sides of the US.

Still very light for the opening ceremonies and makes them lame imo.

50% of the population of the United States lives in the Eastern time zone. A 7 PM start on the West Coast puts the action 10PM-1AM there, with the main events midnight to 1. I'm shocked how long it took them to pull their heads out of their butts on the times, but I for one am very glad they finally have.

Agree, the EST folks who don't like to stay up until 2AM will be thrilled (I am one of them).  I do feel bad for the west coast folks, SX should be at least in the early evenings, it is not the same.  And for those that like to have a beer or two, you will be having a battle with your conscience over day-drinking 😉

I'm all for it. That's 9 a.m. for me, so I don't have to waste an entire Sunday afternoon on the couch.

Doesn’t bother me to much. I’d stay up if I had to and now it’s earlier for me. So cool too. I didn’t realize people get so worked up over this stuff

I think we could've compromised and went with a 5pm West Coast start time. That would have the mains being done by 11pm East Coast, and it would still be dark for heats and mains. Who goes to supercross for the opening ceremonies? I've seen better firework shows at neighborhood watch parties lol!

It’s already getting decently dark here in SoCal around then, it’ll be totally dark when any real racing starts happening.

As someone in SoCal I like it. Racing done by 8, go to bed early and go ride the next day 👍.  For those on the east it’s obviously way better.

Thing I hate is what’s stated above. Be nice if they changed up the night show and the times wouldn’t bother me at all. Fireworks and spotlight and light show sucks when the sun is still out. I think if they could figure that out it would pacify everyone. It’s is nice to get out of the stadium at a decent hour get a bite to eat and check out the night life.

Start at 7pm in whatever time zone they're in and people watching on TV from other parts of the globe can deal with it ?  Make too much sense ?

When Im home and living back east I love it  it's 7 p.m for me not 10 pm.  Now I'm working in Oregon and as I've learn from college football this season those times suck ass out here on the West Coast!!

Weird all the super core guys in this thread that are mad about the start times and not realizing that they started this last year.

I've always hated any day time SX races. Just doesn't feel the same.

Same. But like I said above, maybe the change the “night program” and make it a little more enjoyable with the sun still out. Not sure how they could do this but that’s not my job.
