I think Deegan will at least be a thorn in Jett's side for the outdoors, but indoors? I just haven't seen it yet. Sure, he won the title, but Shimoda won the opener before getting hurt, then Beaumer gave him trouble, and then Davies came in hot towards the end of his rookie season.

Plenty of 250SX champions have gone on to have mediocre 450SX careers. There was 17 250SX champions in 450SX last year. Winning one regional title is not a guarantee for success on the 450.

Apologies, I thought Barcia won a 250MX title, I stand corrected.

Pastrana is about the biggest one I can think of. But his body let him down more than anything. He had the speed and talent. Tedesco might be the other shocking one, even then he still won a national and had a few ok years.

Everyone else that has won both titles on 250s usually is successful on a 450.

Interesting - looking at past 250MX (125cc too) champs, there are a few that didn't make it in the 450 (250cc) class, but most did. Not looking as narrowly as a championship, but most were successful in the premiere class.

Broc Glover, Mark Barnett, Ryan Villopoto, Ricky Carmichael, Marty Smith, Jett Lawrence, Micky Dymond, Mike Kiedrowski, James Stewart, Doug Henry, Steve Lamson, Jeremy Martin, Dean Wilson, Hunter Lawrence, Blake Baggett, Eli Tomac, Cooper Webb, Zach Osborne, Aaron Plessinger, Dylan Ferrandis, Adam Cianciarulo, Haiden Deegan, Trey Canard, Ryan Dungey, Ivan Tedesco, Grant Langston, Mike Brown, Travis Pastrana, Jeff Emig, Guy Cooper, George Holland, Ron Lechien, Jeff Ward, Johnny O'Mara, Bob Hannah

The list narrows a lot more for the guys that won both small bore MX and SX titles. Only a really small group don’t “make it”

After seeing the off season races... can we drop the Jett vs Deegan rivalry for now.

I feel like the Deegan’s view of success is championships, anything else is a fail.

It’s possible that Deegan’s timing into the 450 class intersecting with an all-time great (who’s arguably not even at his peak yet) will result in a title or two when things fall his way or maybe even no 450 title at all.  Outside of Jett he’s still got at least two years of battling older but still fast guys like Tomac, Webb, and Roczen (all multi time 450 champs).  Then there’s Sexton who’s arguably the next best after Jett and also a multi time champ, and Hunter who has been right on Jett’s tailpipe for outdoors and SMX.  Outdoors there’s also JCoop and AP who are strong podium contenders.

If he follows the trajectory of 99% of successful 250 riders he’ll take a year or two of adjusting to the 450.  By then those older guys are probably gone but Jett will be only 24, Hunter and Chase will be 28.

Also not forgetting that in two more years another 250 champion could emerge and be ready to take him on.

Does anyone think he will have his hands full with Davies? That kid has him on technique in supercross.

The only thing that will "shock" anyone when he moves up is if he completely fails to deliver...

Where is Davies up to.
Been quiet. Just getting on with preparation? Healthy?

Can’t wait for his return

Plessinger has a 250 SX and MX title. So does Hunter. HL might squeeze out a championship,  but I think Aaron will "just" be a race winner.

Gets even smaller when you just look at those that won multiple 250sx and 250mx titles.

A full blown Rookie that had him in speed, made some Rookie mistakes. If i were him, i would be very worried.

You're getting downvoted, but I think Davies only straight-up beat Deegan twice in SX last year.  Davies is a good talent, but until he shows he can beat Deegan regularly, he seems like a longshot to beat him for a title.

Yup. Davies definitely had more for Deegan than anyone else and is already elite in the whoops, which is the toughest thing for most young guys to master. But, more often than not, Deegan was the better rider last season. As he should've been - he's 2 years older and has 2 years more experience.

Davies caught him from behind and passed him multiple times. Somethin  Haiden never did to Hunter in his rookie year. Cole outright had more speed. Clean up the rookie mistakes and he gets very dangerous.

I doubt Davies will be on the same coast as Deegan. I do think staying in 250s will only stunt his progression in Supercross.

I guess it depends on what you consider mediocre. The below arent exactly mediocre 450 careers but would we say Deegan underperformed if he ended up with their 450 careers? Maybe

I think those riders you listed had pretty great careers. I suppose at this point though, Deegan is looking for more than they accomplished. Myself, if Deegan matches their accomplishments (two of your riders have a premier class championship) I would say he was accomplished. Windham never won a premier class championship, Guy Cooper as well, yet I feel they were accomplished.

Yeah that's what I mean. Their careers are fine, but I assume that most people would expect more from Deegan.
