Rode with mine today, left it on all day and the battery didn’t drop hardly any,  I Rode with it under jersey and no complaints!  I went down or tipped over and got flung off and it didn’t go off which I liked!  Impressed so far!

Nice! Thanks for the ride report. I'm really glad they made the charging USB-C. What size did you go with?

I went with xxl I’m usually xl but I’m glad I went xxl as it’s snug but fits very nice!

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you weigh and how tall are you? Going off of the Astars sizing chart I would need the XXL too.

Well I have good news and bad news. My dad just helped me measure my chest and waist. Bad news is my measurements show that I would need the XX-L. Good news is, that's two of the sizes Cycle Gear has in stock, lol. I guess I need to go on a diet.... Sad

That’s exactly where I got mine, through cycle gear. Although I ordered mine before AStars even announced availability. I had been checking Cycle Gear once a day for about 2 weeks at the end of October/early November since Keefer said it would be out around end of October previously

This might be a dumb question but I wonder if there some sort of perforated material that would hold enough air pressure in a quick instance that could help with ventilation? The airbag doesn’t need to be air tight but perhaps a tight weave mesh could inflate long enough to serve its purpose in a crash. We’ve seen how long the airbags stay inflated after a crash but usually you just need it for that split second before you smack the ground.

I think the dilemma with that would be the force from the impact could just blow right through the air layer and force it all through the mesh and not provide as much cushion as needed, depending on the force of the crash. I’m not an engineer designing these things so it’s possible that’s something they may have a solution for that I would be overlooking with my ultra simple perspective on them🤷🏼‍♀️

If it was a long flow of gas going into the airbag this might work. But to inflate fast enough it has to be a very fast blast.

I have 7 or 8 days of trail riding with it. I’ve had half a dozen low speed falls and one deployment. It wasn’t a crash where I really needed it but it was amazing to see the technology work. My rear tire c cought on something I didn’t see and it sent me into a high side. It figured out I was going to crash at the same time I did. I bought a package of two replacement canisters at the same time I bought the chest protector. It turns out that those fit the jacket so I had to return them. Tech air mx canisters are sold one per package. I ordered a couple from astars. It cost me $250 for two of them with tax shipping .

I love my airbag for roadracing.  Last time I crashed it deployed.   I still broke a wrist and a shoulder and some ribs.  I have to wonder If I would have walked away without it.  The technology is getting better and better all the time.   I don’t care how hot or expensive it is I will not ride without it.  If they did not exist, I would not ride and I would be very depressed.

Nice! Yeah From what I understand the street models and off-road rally model has two. I guess they're Different than the MX canister(?). Did it deploy before you hit the ground? I'm Really hoping as more people buy these,  They'll gather more data and get the airbag deployment timing down really good. I'd say the biggest critique of this whole thing is when we saw multiple guys hit the deck in  Supercross last year and it deployed after. Ie. Barcia at East Rutherford

While I know it’s probably not perfect, I don’t think you can take much from the supercross side of things. I know a bit behind the scenes and supercross is just a whole different animal to get the algorithm dialed in for. I think we will see that for motocross at the pro level and certainly for your average consumer, they have done a immense amount of homework and it will be really reliable with predicting a crash before you hit the ground.

It has an enduro setting that I have been using. I think you can adjust it with the app if you don’t like what it’s doing but I like it so far. Theme canister is smaller and threads on different than the other canisters I bought. Yes it did deploy before I hit. Amazing technology.

Mine came in Thursday night. First thoughts after pulling it out of the box: I can't believe how low profile it is! I thought it would be super bulky. It's so comfortable too.

I rode with it at Fox yesterday. It was a textbook perfect day to ride and test new gear, 50 degrees when we got to the track and didn't get any hotter than 66. Rode with it under my jersey, no undershirt or anything. It's so comfortable and not bad at all against your skin.

On the bike riding I was surprised how good it felt. The only time I really noticed it was when going from standing to sitting before a turn. But's that probably because I went from wearing no chest pro at all to this.

It's two thumbs up from me! I am super impressed. I put two hours on my bike and rode with it on the whole time. Obviously the heat was no issue yesterday. I think the only negative is going to be riding with it in the summer. I wish the weather could be amazing all the time like it was yesterday, haha. I'm thinking over the jersey with a super vented jersey might be the move in the summer.

Isn't it supposed to come with an extra argon canister? Mine didn't.

No extra Argon included, the off-road body armor jacket does two installed at a time for two deployments before recharge which may be what you’re thinking of

Good feedback and pictures wearing it up close. I need to bite the bullet and order one of these if I plan to keep racing (or even riding). Too many crashes the last couple of years, and a few sets of broken ribs along the way with multiple different brands and styles of protectors. Both under and over jersey chest and roost protectors. This probably won't eliminate the chances of broken ribs and injuries, but it also won't hurt to try this type of solution.

I am still several months from being able to ride again as I had burst my Achillies tendon and fractured my ankle a few months ago (without even crashing...) so saving a few dollars to purchase this makes sense on my end.

I’ve been waiting for the Tech Air MX to release since they announced it. Put off upgrading my chest protector this season in anticipation, so naturally as soon as it was available I ordered it.

Had my first ride in it today…no crashes and it didn’t go off😂couple points to make about it. 1. It’s definitely very heavy compared to other chest protectors, but it’s negligible once it’s on 2. It’s very very comfortable. The whole thing is shaped very nicely to conform and fit great 3. It’s extremely warm. Was a very very mild day today in Illinois, and while I already don’t do well in warm weather it was quite warm for me in 65° and cloudy with a super lightweight ventilated jersey on…I’m concerned how bad it’ll be during the summer.

While I don’t want to test out the airbag itself, I’m interested to see how it reacts if/when I do have a get-off wearing it.

Good review, thanks man.

Ventilation is a problem with the road racing airbags too, which is made doubly worse under the leather suit, leather gloves and leather boots. I had the Tech Air 5 on under an Alpinestars leather suit in a hot, humid climate (90+ F, high humidity with a tarmac temp easily over 120 F) and even with constant hydration and breaks, I got heat exhaustion so bad I became incoherent during the 4th or 5th session of the day. I'm 6', ~180 lbs and athletic with good conditioning, but in the end your body's internal temperature has its limits, and having something around your core that blocks all airflow is a limiting factor.

I think these kinds of things will always be a tradeoff of if you'd rather "sweat than bleed", and I can say I've seen real-world airbag deployments where a nasty 100 mph crash results in someone just getting up and walking it off. I'm glad Alpinestars gives us the option now in MX/offroad too.

Is there a sizing chart for what waist to shoulder measurement applies to the sizes? They mention it in their sizing but then don't include a chart for it.

EDIT: I spoke to A-Stars and they were very helpful. The bottom of their web page has a link to Product Manuals. Select the Tech Air MX manual and on pg 55 there is a table. Also, they said the chest measurement was important..

110% believe it’s worth the trade off. At the end of the day I’m just a weekend warrior with no high level ambitions in this sport, just want to give myself the best chance to make it to work on Monday so that I can earn a paycheck in order to keep riding on weekends😂
