Do you ever bills amps from kits/parts? At NAMM I’ve seen some AWESOME “Amp kits” that are waaaaaay cheaper than comparable “Brand Name amplifiers” and that includes huge assed stacks, too.

Do you go to NAMM?

No. I have never been to  the NAMM show. I have built a few amps from very old Fender schematics but none are kits.   The only amp from a kit is one my son wanted which is a 50 watt Marshall by Mojotone. He did 90% of the work which worked out OK.

Awesome stuff.

We’re probably going to lose about 1/2 the household income soon and just trying to find ideas how to keep the house going smoothly.

Awesome ideas.

I was a person who once worked multiple jobs.  I worked union construction and waited tables at a fine dining steakhouse on the weekends.  For 15 years I did this.  Ironically, I got injured and this gave me time to learn to invest properly and understand how to move money around in a good way. It started very slowly, but scraping up $50 here and there to re invest was the best thing I ever did. Today, it turned into my lively hood and a passion. The reward? Understanding yourself better than anyone else could even fathom, and you are your own boss.  That is the best reward, knowing you can rely on yourself at all times and there is no cap to it.  Just my .02

Pluck a young gun who has a head between his ears and start your own business.  Give him a percentage, teach him what needs taught and grow it.  This will allow you to earn while racing with the family. Obviously easier said than done, another thing I think is a great little startup is Power washing businesses.  Hire a couple teenagers to go do a home for $200, charge the owner $500 and do every square inch.  They get good cash, you get repeat business that you don't have to work on.  Simply line up work.

About 30 years ago I was going to start a business called "Do Away" and drive around picking up dog shit. I was cleaning about 20 pools a day and got tired of stepping around (or in) piles of dog shit. I thought I'm in the yard already why not charge them an extra 30-40 bucks a month to clean up after their pet(s). They weren't doing it, not consistently anyway. What's the overhead ? A flat nose shovel and some plastic trash bags ? It seemed like a good idea to me. My wife instantly shot the idea down, "Really ? you want to pick up dog shit all day ?"  insert multiple eyerolls and "Pfffftt's"...  Fast forward 30 years and there's companies that do just that. I don't know what those guys make but I bet there's not a lot of bullshit involved. Pun intended lol. Charge their credit card a month in advance, get a truck, a shovel, some garbage bags, pick up the shit, drop it in their trashcan and off to the next house. Even if the dog shit twice a day it'd only be 14 piles, how long would that take to pick up ? Two minutes ? Three minutes ?  Easy money and next to no overhead ?    It's better than some of my other ideas like.., Colored Tires, Truck Rims with steps built in the center hub, Diet Pizza, and Morey Doyle Boogie Board covered cars you could bash into each other with, complete with spring loaded bumpers like Autopia at Disneyland. No more fender benders 👍😄😄

When I was younger, I was an automotive painter. Always had side jobs going on in my own little paint shop, small collision jobs, helmets, road bikes ….I enjoyed the cash and the hustle….I parlayed that into corporate Insurance company/ collision specialty positions and did not have to hustle so hard anymore….always beneficial to know a trade/ skill….

I don't know, Dood. My dog shits about twice a day and somehow there's 47 piles of shit after a week. I can't fathom how that math works out, but it's true.

I turned my "extra money" into main money after I was making more on saturday's than all week at work. I move hot tubs. Started with moving used ones that people buy on marketplace, take away old ones to the dump as well in one piece. That turned into delivering brand new ones as well for a couple stores that sell them around me, so when they sell one I bring it to the buyers home. Have also fixed and sold probably over 200 of them by now out of my home/backyard. Sometimes get lucky to take away a good one that needs some repair then can resell it from $1500-$8000. Covid was pretty crazy fixed and sold 30 tubs one year. was a lot of cash coming in. So literally turning other peoples garbage into thousands of dollars. I think about how easy it is sometimes to fix a tub in my garage, and selling it for 4 grand pretty easily, compared to having to go out and do how many service calls driving around the city and the hours involved it would take to clear 4 grand in profit.

Now my "extra" money is renting scaffolding. It kind of fell into my lap i was cruising marketplace one day and a small set popped up for what i thought was a good deal (never having thought about it in my life before) I thought hmmm I think that could be rentable...bought it, rented it out a couple times, bought some more, rented that out, bought some more etc etc. Now I have about 50 frames (2 sizes) and 25 platforms, wheels, levelling feet. Not getting rich on it but have had a couple people rent some for a month for $250-$800...it's nice when the next month comes and they're not finished with it and pay me for another month it really feels like free money. often a guy will come take 4-6 pieces for a weekend so he can take his chimney down or whatever they need to do and give me $150 and bring it back on monday. not bad at all. I've bought it all used. only about 4 grand invested in all of it since I wait for good deals on marketplace. This year has about doubled my investment.

Earlier this year even had a movie company set manager reach out to me that they liked some of the older stuff i have it had a good look for them, he came over, took pictures of a bunch of it then a week or two later said they wanted it for 2 weeks, write them a bill up for $1500. they sent a big moving truck and picked it up and dropped it back off. Easy easy. It never breaks down, doesn't require maintenance, once it's paid for it's free money.

I like to wake up every morning and day trade premarket. Be done by 9am. I also saw my friends doing these online surveys and never thought I would do it but if im having a hard time sleeping I will do a few surveys to make me tired for a few minutes. It has 180 gift card companies from Walmart to Delta etc. I use it every week for free cow feed etc from Tractor  Supply.  A lot of the surveys are like what's your favorite dirtbike brand or grocery store.

I used to donate sperm. I turned a problem I had as a teenager  into a great side job.  You can make $100-$150 per donation and get $2k for referring new donators.  I had a high IQ ( many hits to the head later I worry I may not test as high now)  and being 6'9" helped too. And You get free physicals every year .  I had to retire when I hit 40.  It was good while it lasted....

But seriously I used to paint helmets as a side gig. I miss it and keep thinking of building a spray booth up and playing around with it now that I am a better artist  and I am able to have a place to paint where my shop is again.  But I do not have the time to do it right now.

I've been watching auctions and am hoping to buy a skidsteer or excavator. And use them to build up my trails and track as I flip them until I can buy a newer , low hour unit and then start renting it. I keep missing out on the machines I want and noticed many machines show up for sale on marketplace for a decent amount more. SO I have a new plan of going for machines with a potential for flipping instead of just the machine I would like to own long-term.

It might not feel as good as donating sperm, but its a living.

Back in my day it was strictly a hand operation. But I hear they have some new tech coming into the collection area. So its pretty close to a milking machine.  I may have to try and come out of retirement and see how these machines are if they are in the area. image 2282.png?VersionId=sz9foSs3vO6ZwIVQ4B4Y

I like em both. NFC makes some of the best blanks in the world, right here in the U SA. Their price point is also untouchable.  The downside is your probably gonna have to wait a couple months to get your order. Rainshadow blanks are top quality as well. Your gonna pay more but you can get them much quicker. Either brand  makes real nice stuff.  Kinda like dirtbikes?  Pick one and go fish/ride.

Freelance writing, on top of being an editor. It's so much work but pays $1.10 per word. Also playing live music, which is good for $500-$1000 a month depending on the number of gigs.

I would like to learn more about your freelance writing gig. I've dabbled a bit in writing about backcountry skiing, and mountain biking, but the pay has been marginal to non-existent (though I did score some sweet ski gear early on). Trailbuilding (primarily mtb, and moto) is my primary source of income, but all my work is already wrapped up for the season, and looking for a side hustle.

I help set up concerts occasionally on the side. Long days but not many hours of work. The work usually comes in bursts and then it’s just messing around for a while. At least 1k for a setup and all expenses reimbursed like food gas hotel, etc. If l don’t have anything going on when they need help I’ll do it
