1977 , Webco Ultimate with magnesium Webco mags, Captain America helmet, orange Scott goggles, PDI T-shirt, DG belt buckle and a wide ass Yamaha leather belt. Blue suede shoes cuz the ladies dug 'em. I was a fucking fashion statement, and would jump anything that didn't jump me first. Too bad no one could check me out on facebook back then, I'd have been off the charts. Ahead of my time , a never was been.

How about you?

WOW; that brings back the memories. I had a red Webco with Motomags and Ashtabula forks (couldn't afford Redline or Cooks Bros). I have a picture somewhere in the house with me at the BMX track in Simi Valley, CA sporting a yellow fullface helmet, Suzuki jersey and a 1st place trophy. Mid to late 70's sounds about right. Between jumps, loading docks, and bunny hop contest that frame was cracked and welded at least 1/2 dozen times. BMX'in has sure changed.

Thanks for the flash back in time Newmann...

Me and my brother had Schwinn Ashtabula bikes. They were the bomb back then. Way better than what you buy at Walmart.

In 1977 I was almost living in a box van and wearing JT mechanic's overalls. Never made much money but loved every minute of it.

Yup, that would sweet!

I'd like to go to all the nat's too... only seen the west coast rounds. Make sure to get a pit pass for each round, so you can get autographs and stuff.

I had a Schwinn Stingray with a bmx seat and handlebars installed. That frame was heavy and indestructably strong, outlasting many sets of wheels.

We had a veritable bicycle junk yard, and assembled stuff on a near-daily basis. Things got real fun once we learned(?) how to weld...

1963 Sky Blue Schwinn Stingray (1st year made). First jump attempt resulted in 12 stitches in the chin, bent forks and wheel, along with a flat tire. Boy was my Dad pissed. I had to get a paper route to pay him back before he would let me ride it again. I never was much of a jumper after that but I could wheelie better than my buddies in the neighborhood. I don`t remember if it did anything for the ladies or not.

So YOU were that lucky kid who had a 'Crate' bike.

You have no idea how bad the rest of us kids wanted a Crate bike.......

I was rolling the standard Stingray Coaster..

My pedal steed of choice was a Yamaha bicycle with Boge shocks mounted on back.

In fact, I learned to weld after my old man said, "you fix the damn frame yourself this time." Did you know that if you over-weld it can weaken the tube? Wink
