Awesome piece written by @LewisPhillips , on what Feld is interested in doing eventually internationally.
While I think they probably are only saying this now because of the WSX success lately, I still think it’s pretty cool. I think it poses a HUGE challenge logistically, but if they can pull it off then I give them props.
What are your thoughts? Is it a good idea?
If so what are some countries/cities you would like to see them at?
I think it would be strange to host "playoff" or "post season" races internationally for a series that is entirely in the US.
If they can make it work and it can grow the sport, im here for it!
True. But they are calling it the “world championship” so I see why they would want to.
Feld just sees the money and wants it.
Off-season supercross in Japan or Paris always had a market. There's more total money now with Australia and the attempted WSX. I don't think having a SMX round oversees would change anything except require more travel to get the series money.
Money writes history. If the contract bonuses were written on the FIM supercross championship, we would remember Stewart as the 2006 champion in place of Carmichael. But the money was on the AMA championship, which Carmichael won. Recall the 2004 FIM world supercross champion? This included the 16-round AMA supercross series- Heath Voss. That didn't work 20 years ago.
If Feld wants more speedway-style hybrid tracks, bigger than a soccer stadium, I could see that happening overseas. But supercross overseas is just a copy.

Everyone somehow forgets who won the World Supercross 250 Title in '03....Chad Reed. He's a 3x 250 Supercross Champ.
Superstupidcross needs to die, not go international 🤣
I hear you, and I agree.
How can any round of the post season be international, when all rounds that qualify you for the post season are only held in the US? If we had some sort of intenational flair to SX or MX, it would make some sense. I'm not suggesting that should happen, im just stating that opinion.
The idea of having the post season held internationaly should be done with the intention of getting the best talent involved in the races on a global scale. I love it.... but that doesn't make sense if the best international riders can't even qualify unless they run the AMA moto/Feld SX series in the states.
It is confusing to have all qualifying rounds in the US, and then take the show on the road with the same riders based in the US. Its not really a world championship if you must race in the US to qualify for that "world championship."
The Canada SX round didn’t last very long. To do a playoff international who's shipping the bikes?
Scrap the points schemed series!
I think it can boost interest, currently everyone knows that the last round in Vegas is the most important with the amount of points on offer so the first 2 naturally won’t get as much attention as the last.
If you send the first 2 races internationally with the current points system then this will in my opinion create a lot more hype for the first 2 rounds in terms of spectators. The fans from abroad will travel a long way to watch all the top AMA athletes in a stadium. Imagine the first round in Europe, it would be like Paris SX but on steroids. If they want to take attention away from WSX or having their riders stop doing more overseas races, this would be a no brainer.
They’ve already had to reschedule MXdN to accommodate SMX, now they want to add international rounds? What’s that do to the calendar and the best race of the year? Sounds like nothing more than greed to me.
Weren't tons of people outside of the US complaining that they never get a chance to see the AMA riders? Now there is talk of opening it up and you say its greed. I guess other countries can get their fix of Noah Viney with WSX
There are opportunities in some places in the off season, but a full AMA round or two held internationally would be great, however not at the expense of MXdN or making the season even longer.
Yeah! Who wants to watch more racing and why would we want the riders to have an opportunity to earn some more cash??
I don’t like the idea of having a “playoff” round abroad. Overall, I like the idea of an international race but make it one of the regular season SX rounds, maybe have a break the week before or after. Just my opinion, yours may vary.
